Welcome to We're Still Cool, Right? The weekly podcast where the conversation flows smoother than top-shelf whiskey. And cool, well, it never really left. Grab a drink and hang out with Erik, Mike, and Shaun while they dive into nostalgia and attempt to answer the age-old question. We're still cool, right?
00:00:30
Pain heals Kick stick scars Glory lasts forever Yes Well done I love it Probably my favorite line ever from any sports movie I fucking love it Oh yes With that sound we are back again I am Shaun and of course with me is Mike Hi And Erik What's up And this is a fun episode yeah i'm pretty excited about it uh maybe we just kind of get into the drink first and i think so go from there so this was mike's episode pretty much so come on yeah we got here for us yeah so uh the color is not exactly what it's supposed to be uh i don't know what happened but this drink uh i named it the purple headed yogurt slinger um because it didn't it didn't have a name i literally looked all over for the name there was it just it was like here's this drink there was no name uh But you'll find out why I went with this drink because it does have Gatorade in it.
00:01:34
We already did Gator wine, so I had to come up with something else. But the purple-headed yogurt slinger has an ounce and a half of vodka, an ounce of blue curacao, and then a splash of grenadine. And then top it off about five, six ounces of grape Gatorade, which is purple. And what's her garnish? And I found the cutest garnish because I love my boys so much. I found little blue gummy sharks that I put in there for everybody. Heck yeah. I'm not going to eat them. Yeah. I mean, it's adorable. I had like six months. Sharks, not the drinks.
00:02:12
Good caveat. Yeah. So, yeah, we'll see how it is. I mean, it looks good. It's just really blue. I thought it would be purple. But you know what? Whatever. Cheers, everybody. Cheers. Hope you guys enjoy it.
00:02:27
I don't know. It's easy drinking to me. It tastes like the water hazard we had to have Gatorade. It's just like I barely taste the vodka, but there's a shot and a half in there. I feel like I'm getting hydrated. Yeah, and there's not a lot of sugar, actually. I mean, there's a splash grunting and an ounce of the Curacao, and that's pretty much it. So I feel a lot better about that. I looked at Logan's face as he took a little drink at the beginning, and I'm like, uh-oh. He's like, No, no, no. It smells and looks insane. like neon insane and you drink it and it just kind of tastes like watered down Gatorade yeah that's exactly what it tastes like yeah a little watered down Gatorade so but I was looking at him I'm like oh man this is gonna be rough you see a drain he just goes he took a sip and he did one of these like it was more surprise than anything you gotta remember that crushed ice melts fast guys so like it's you know I would recommend using big cubes of ice but you know whatever so but that kind of looks leads us into what we're talking about today.
00:03:27
This is one of our special episodes and I'm going to ask the question, are sports movies still cool? I know my opinion. I'm right on the game. I'll just 100% yes. They're my favorite. I'm a sports nut.
00:03:44
I have some great memories about it. I'm really excited about this episode. Just thinking about different sports movies. I'm 100% a yes that sports movies are still cool. yeah yeah and um i for me i need the comedy to go with it for it to be cool yep i'm not as big on some of the touchy-feely sports movies as you guys are football football gets me a little bit because i like that's my favorite sport i don't get as into the other ones but and that's fair i totally get that because like there's some people who just like they don't like baseball at all well you're never gonna like a baseball movie you know and it's just like that's all there is to it so Something we don't want to forget.
00:04:22
The drink of the week is sponsored by Benz Beverage Depot. Thank you, brother. Yes, yes. You got a nice little picture back here that reminded me. I appreciate it. Thank you, Logan. Our great sponsor, Benz, their team does an awesome job, and we love teaming up with them, and they provided all the things I needed for this drink tonight, minus the, you know, gummy worms, basically. You know what, though? When you go in there, I wouldn't be surprised they have gummy worms. I wouldn't be surprised at all, yeah. They got more fancy cheeses and gourmet type stuff. maybe not gummy worms but true some of the gummy things in there you may want to put not button your drink because they probably got you might see a warning on them yeah so you will know before you buy them but yeah shout out to ben's who uh sponsors us and uh and the drink of the week so if you need something it's an awesome place the crew down there is awesome they are at 501 7th avenue southeast in cedar rapids and it is a sweet place it is one of those like i said i open up the the door oh it's just everything you want booze everywhere it's great yeah so by the way i just love how you're like just the human google maps machine now just like here's the address right now yeah you are 400 steps away hey you're killing it plug it on in it'll tell you how to get there yeah buddy um yeah i i love sports movies i always have uh there's i'm like eric i love the funny ones but i also do i'm a sucker for you know a big emotional ride if you will um there's a lot of them and there's not a lot of them it's weird so like this is a bracket episode i'm i yeah i took i brought it down to 32 i had to leave some out where someone will find a way to bitch about
00:05:53
it which is totally fine because we welcome it bring it on there's a lot of old ones and only some of us are that old that we're going to remember them i'm not going to name names sean So like we gotta think about this Fucking millennial over here I just keep triggering Drink your goddamn gummy sharks And leave me alone So yeah that's kind of my thing Is I mean I love all of them I mean there's been soccer movies I loved I don't give a shit about soccer You know what I mean like I just don't Fuck that's not on here That's a good one That's the thing I could make one just funny ones right but it's like there was too many it was like it's hard to whittle it down how many to do 32 32 32 so we're staying always kind of our standard that's that's what i thought in my head i'm like we always do 32 so this will be officially our third time doing this right because we did the dads and then we did the uh i was thinking we did three already i was thinking we did three but did we um i don't know we did the comedians we did comedians turned actors yeah i don't think we've done another one that's true we have ideas for plenty of other ones because we want to keep doing it we have a lot of we put some lists together for it and a lot of people have chimed in on on what to do but this would be yeah because this is an old person thing i i love brackets i don't know what it is if it is fuck yeah sign me up yeah i just definitely cool this started for me and i i said this on a previous one but i didn't go into it enough just real quick on disney or someone some rant buzzfeed did a pixar slash disney one like 10 years ago maybe more yeah and
00:07:28
it was dumb. It was like, you're still pissed about it. I'm still pissed. You're like, still literally upset about it. And I was bitching about it on Facebook and like 35 people chimed in. They're like, you should make a new one. And I was like, so I spent the next week, like, whittling it down. I like posted the site where you could vote on it and then we did it on our own. Ask me who won. Same one that won the damn bracket. I have no idea. I don't even remember. That's the problem. So it's like, Wally. I was, I'm glad I was really worried about that. You know, I wanted it to be Moana because that's my number one.
00:07:57
But, you know, whatever. So anyway, we are going to get into some sports movies here. That's awesome. I'm glad you put this together, bud. I'm excited for this one. I was aware that we were doing a bracket. I did not know what it was. And right before we started, he said it. And I've been smiling ever since. Yep. These guys did not know coming into this. They just found out five minutes ago. Do you know what I'm excited for? Is to know how many of the 32 I actually know. Because you guys know all of them. I might have to Google some. So if you see me over here. No, yeah. And let's be honest, we'll be asking some questions here.
00:08:28
I'm like, we're going to forget the years they came out and all sorts of stuff. So I'm just going to kind of go all over the place here, bounce around a little bit. So for the first round, but I'll just start it out with Million Dollar Baby and Talladega Nights. Oh, geez. So can I tell the story about Million Dollar Baby? Ashley and I are shopping at Walmart. We're barely you know making ends meet we're on our way to the checkout line and We grabbed the movie it's sitting right there we throw it in the cart to get it because we're gonna watch it that night and Literally scan it and the girl goes I can't believe she dies at the end And actually go like we're looking at each other like like we're so fucking first of all You know, you just did that to so many people. It's been out long enough. That's fair. That's fair that reaches a point but anyways so i like look at ashley and ashley looks at me and i'm like and ashley goes did you just tell me the end of that and the girl you know could tell was like kind of backpiled everything else and she goes fucking take that off the thing and put it back away i mean nothing else it saved us like you know 16 bucks i was gonna say yeah barely could make ends meet but yeah that's literally in the cart pulled out of the we're checking out you They have the sucker row where you get the last impulse purchase.
00:09:54
Put it on there and she goes, I can't believe she dies at the end. Jesus. Hey, shout out to you, you dick. It's like a blanket spoiler warning for any movie mentioned. Yeah, the minute you hear it said, if you haven't seen it and you're dying to see it, just stop listening because I don't know what we're going to say. But again, none of these are that new. So like Shaun said, there is a point where now it's your fault. That's kind of how I feel with most movies and shows at a certain threshold. Let's say it's a month, two months maybe. Now, don't spoil the ending like that. Don't do that to anybody.
00:10:32
But you've got to realize you're going to get it spoiled. Especially in this day and age with social media. I was telling Aaron we have to watch Stranger Things before somebody spoils it for me on the internet. going to happen. Can we get a year on Million Dollar Baby? 2004. It's been over 20 years. 20 years? You're definitely good. Damn, that makes me feel older because I don't feel like it's that long. Clint Eastwood and was it Hillary Swank? Yeah. Okay, yeah. Who totally lives a great life the whole movie. You couldn't see it. Yeah. So, votes. Do you want me to go first? Sure. It's Talladega Nights all day just because of fucking how good that is. Talladega Nights.
00:11:11
Same. Little baby Jesus? Logan? And again, if you haven't seen him... I have seen him. Okay. I know what room I'm in. I'm gonna say Talladega Nights. Uh oh! You had to know your audience, you know? Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Alright, alright. Million Dollar Baby is a great movie. It's a very good movie. I mean, at this point it's okay that you can pick that Million Dollar Baby. Yeah, I was gonna say, you're still safe. You can give it the pity vote. No, I think Talladega Nights is... I rewatched it recently. So fucking good. Interesting. Yeah. Interesting to go back to now. Some great quotes. That's something I should go back and see.
00:11:47
If you went first to last. The fucking marketing on the damn thing was amazing. It was. He's so good. Yeah. Anyways. All right. All right. Let's move over. God, dude. I'm looking at this now and it's bothering me already. Because there's killers all over the place. This is the pain of putting together the bracket. I don't like doing this. Shaun did one. I did one. Now you're doing one. Now you get to take your lumps. Varsity Blues. Evil emails coming by you. I don't like this. And I wrote this, but again, I did not look at who was going to get to. I wrote them down and just flew through it. That way I wasn't swayed either way.
00:12:21
Varsity Blues and the replacements. Oh. Both football. Both have very. I know which. Wow, man. Both kind of iconic cult following in their own way. Yeah, and I know which. So I know the one that I'm going to pick. Me too. It's not easy because for one spring break, we fucking quoted Varsity Blues the whole thing. Like, I'm going to fuck your pig.
00:12:50
Darcy's friend? I don't want to live your life. She looked like she felt that I want to suck your dick tree in every branch on the way down. Darcy's friend? Dude. Also, with fucking the fat guy, he's like, the doctor scanned my cat. My cat's good. Oh. Uh-huh. Oh, you can play. Yeah, you can play. And then he's thrown up in the washer hot dogs in here. We also just so gross. Yeah, but with that, it's such a good movie. I fucking love the replacements. I the replacements is one of my favorite all time movies. And if it's one of those ones, if I'm like flipping through channels or I'm flipping through a movie app and it pops up and I don't know what to watch.
00:13:27
I'm watching almost every time. And TBS loves it. They play it all. They do. That thing. And I. Yes. It's so good, though. And how hot was that? The cheerleader. The chick? Yeah. The Kiana's girl? Yeah. So hot. Have you seen her? Where has she been in since? She's not that hot. She was especially hot for that role. Really? Brooke Langton? Was she in anything after that? I don't know.
00:13:56
Well, she's 55 now. Which is fine. We don't judge. But just saying. Raquel Walsh was hot until the 90s. kind of set the stage as far as she was in Weeds. I never saw that, but I heard it was good. Friday Night Lights. Swingers. What?
00:14:18
There's a bunch more here. Yeah, I'd have to look that up on your own time here, but I feel like she was smoking hot in that. Yeah, she was. And just there's so many things. The jail scene where they're all singing and dude, goddammit. First I was afraid. I was petrified The thing I couldn't live without you by my side I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong but I grew strong And I learned how to get along and so you're back I thought we were going to keep going I was just like, we were going to go after it Alright Erik, you haven't seen either of them, have you? I actually have, which is great Surprising You're going first then So, here's my take um i really enjoyed the replacements and i think it's an overall better movie yeah yeah i've only watched the replacements like twice oh you're saying varsity i've watched varsity blues like probably at least 15 times oh yeah the whip so so part of me yeah part of me is like i'm debating this because like i do think replacements is a better movie but when when varsity blues came out like that was the best it was iconic like it was for us like it was there's the thing when we do these is like it's how you judge it like is it based on like how good it made you feel and what you prefer yeah just just go off that i'm gonna use our friends at the confused breakfast concept if i was doing my nostalgia rating varsity blues wins by far sure if i'm thinking like what movie do i want to watch right now the replacements okay so that's a good way to
00:15:51
I'm going to go with the replacements, but I am a little bit torn on this one. Okay. All right. Replacements of this. I had a feeling that one was going to move on. It's hard to – you kind of put a banger right up there. Well, and again, I didn't look, dude. I just – because I was like, oh, no, what am I doing? But I don't think that's one of those where it's like one's a clear one seed and the other one was – I don't think either one seed. Yeah, okay. The more I'm looking at this, too, maybe we need to start doing 32. This is a fuckload, by the way. You'll be all right. It's going to be a three-hour episode.
00:16:19
No big deal. Lock in, Logan. You just got to keep us on track. I'm in. I'm ready. I did warn you about the seating, though. It matters. It really does. I mean, I totally get it. But it's like when you're doing it yourself, it feels so... Are you feeling a little self-conscious right now, Mike? I don't like some of these matchups already. I don't want to pick between these. He's like everybody's under his arms. Come on. Yeah. Mike's like, everybody's a number one. In my heart, they are. So we're going to go Miracle. Miracle. It's going to be fucking tough to eat Miracle. The Mighty Ducks. Yeah.
00:16:57
I mean... Maybe... You want me to go first, Ron? Erik, are you familiar with either of these? I have Mighty Ducks for sure. Oh, okay. I understand what Shaun's saying because I already know what you're going to say. Like, it is... It is... So iconic and the speech. I think I'm going to lose it. I'm going to lose my fucking mind. You're going to go with the fucking ducks? If you asked me Once a week for the next like two years I can only watch one of those two movies And you're like which one do you want? I know I'm going to pick Mighty Ducks more No way! Are you serious? I'm dead serious Miracle is such a fucking good movie I love it I really do It would be the fucking Russians But the rewatchability It's like I Oh I can watch It doesn't matter I can watch it And start it all over again And watch it again what team do you play for united states of america that's all gentlemen that's so fucking good why don't you come in on this because now this could tie it up and we're just gonna leave it are you are you ducks by default i so i think i have seen miracle because i had to look it up but i don't feel like i know it you know what i mean so like i feel like i watched it with somebody and just wasn't paying attention.
00:18:18
Oh, yeah. That's my guess. And when you said we beat the Russians, I kind of vaguely remember that. Kurt Russell. I have to be Mighty Ducks because I loved Mighty Ducks and I watched the shit out of it.
00:18:30
We're just staring at Logan and he's like, I don't know what to say. The energy in the room just like, It's gotten a little hostile. Okay, so I'm the wrong person to help with this because my whole thing is that I did not watch a lot of movies when I was younger. Sure, yeah. So I don't have a really strong affinity for the Ducks. I know people do. Right. So it's hard for me to say. Yeah. I think Miracle's a fantastic movie. Fuck, yeah, it's a great movie. And by the way, I understand what you guys are saying. It's cinematically and what it meant. It is fucking phenomenal. So what's the goal? Are we trying to decide the best sports movie for its representation of sports, the best movie that happens to be about sports like what are we doing here i think it's a genre the sports genre and then you just pick your favorite movie of the two yeah yeah because you didn't put a whole lot of like but this is gonna bother i can see it in your eyes how much this is gonna bother you don't understand how much i love this movie i don't think that i love miracle as much as you love ducks sure i understand that you know what i mean yeah like it would be hard for me to keep it just growing up i watched mighty ducks so much and i still love it every time it on i love it I think part of my problem is i should watch miracle now because like when i probably don have time it was too serious you know for sure for sure it is a very it's a very much more serious movie obviously yeah yeah this is i wish remote producer ben joe was here for this one why don't you just be split because you just want to be someone else to believe in me no and here's the thing i like
00:20:05
that's why I say if we were looking at this like just the greatest movie and going like I know everyone would want this one to win it would be a miracle but I just have to be honest for me it's Mighty Ducks hey whatever so Mighty Ducks moves on Mighty Ducks moves on and remote producer Ben I'm sorry because I know you're upset too alright moving on so oh I was like what does that say Let's go to God these suck Going against each other This is so bad Who made this shit?
00:20:43
Caddyshack And white men can't jump Okay I know And that's the thing about old versus new And by the way white men can't jump is not new I know they remade it and I never watched it It's like Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes One of my favorite movies of all time And I love Caddyshack but it's caddyshack for me caddyshack for you okay so we gotta look at this there is this is why it's hard here's the thing there's there's tits in both of them amen which is pretty big rosie perez was hot as fuck man hot as fuck in that and her i want to screw i can't do her oh man she was so hot okay yeah but caddy oh That's Caddyshack, I'm sorry, but I fucking love white man. I love white man can't jump. Yeah, I mean I Probably enjoy watching white man. You can't hear Jimmy you can't Know you're listening. We try hearing it. Yeah, what are you gonna do? I'll tell you what I'm gonna do I'm gonna go to my car and get my other gun Fuck he was serious they all start running yeah, we go in Yeah, I'm a yeah caddyshack moves on that's That's it. It's a tough one. These are all fucking you know this is pissing me off. All right Cool runnings, okay feel the rhythm feel the rain come on Jamaica. It's bobsled time
00:22:15
Versus karate kid. Oh, well fuck Jesus see I Mean I loved cool runnings. I thought it was a great movie and it was like timely it was like right around the olympics and then like people were like oh bobsledding's cool yeah because i had no idea i didn't even know what bobsledding was no one did yeah hey uh john candy was in it yep yeah he was one of the big dogs for the comedian so like come on that you know it's a great movie sonka you dead yeah i'm on what do you got um yeah i mean but you put it up against a one seed for me so and yeah so I'll let you guys go ahead he's going Karate Kid but yeah I'm going Karate Kid it's yeah yeah way too important literally no question yeah great movie it's so Karate Kid it's not even fair especially because like look Karate Kid spun into Cobra Kai which is actually a fucking great show if no one's watched it it's awesome I walked around as a young man and I had the freaking Fuck yeah, I had the bandana and yeah, it was like I wanted to be I hired an Asian dude to like be my mentor And then I was catching flies with chopsticks Yeah, try to make Cooper do the fence All right Invincible
00:23:45
Okay, for Rudy Oh, I already know Shaun's boat by the way gonna say which like you didn't even have to ask him i liked invincible there was a lot of parts so i remember being super stressed out when he goes back to play like after he's on the team and then he goes back to play with his buddies right like he's not doing well oh yeah he goes back i was like he's gonna get fucking hurt yeah like because i didn't know where you know i didn't know vince papali was a real perfect world i didn't either i know that stuff i know that so i'm like no way he gets fucking hurt here but i'm like i remember watching it feeling very stressed out oh yeah but that being said i'm you know i'm a domer through and through so you know rudy come on i know yeah i knew that was your one for sure so yeah have you seen both um i don't think i've seen invincible oh okay uh i really i loved invincible i really i like i really did yeah i remember going to see it um it wasn't even my idea to go see it and so i went in with like super real low expectations. I also, every time I see Mark Wahlberg at anything, it's kind of like eh, it's just the same role. Like he just like makes it his own, but it's, I don't know.
00:24:52
I think it could have been better as someone else. But overall, I loved the movie, but I'd still go Rudy. Okay. Rudy it is. Yeah. Yeah, I'll be Rudy. Because I've seen Rudy many times. Yeah. Rudy.
00:25:06
Okay. Let's bounce over here. Bull Durham. Oh, so fucking good. Okay. Oh, you're not going to like this. remember the titans you fucking dig that's the thing i dude again i just i made a list and i wrote them down off the entire time to to uh so good yeah oh you guys are gonna have to go before i can't go first here i'm gonna have to i know mine is i've there's only certain baseball movies I love I've never I've always liked bullderm but it was never like one of my top two remember the titans is like my one seed almost like it's that good like the the god damn the way he fires him up what it did for society and like just everything it's not even close it's remember the titans for me I I have to agree like remember the titans for me um the speeches the powerful like all that but i i did really like bull durham like i liked it a lot and you know for me it takes like certain actors and things especially when it comes to like baseball stuff because i'm not a big baseball guy yeah okay there's some people who are like bull durham's not a baseball movie it's just a love story and i was like it's a baseball movie like i'm sorry but they're they are very different because i think remember the titans could have been even better if it wasn't fucking done by disney because it has these Disney tones like,
00:26:38
you must be outside your mind. Nobody fucking says that. That bothered me. They had these little things like that, and Bull Durham was not. Bull Durham was like the dirty, nitty-gritty, like, yeah, there's groupies that follow us around, and they can't wait. You know what I mean? So I think that Bull Durham is so fucking good. I think that that might be one of Kevin Costner's best. And I'm a big fan of Remember the Titans still. Because I like the story of it. But I felt like Remember the Titans had this little kind of corniness about it. And it wasn't obvious. It was just small. And the best that I can say is it was very much a Disney.
00:27:22
It was a serious movie that had a Disney tone to it. And so I'm all Bull Durham. I think that makes sense too. because even with it being Denzel Denzel can get that dirty gritty kind of but he couldn't I never thought about the Disney angle I think if it was done by a different studio I think it would have been or maybe Disney now you know what I mean to say it one way it could have been if you remember the Titans are and showed the really in the dirt mud racism that was happening at the time Disney was never going to do that That's what I'm saying It also wouldn't make the money it made And that's how they look at that stuff But yeah, I think that's a really good point You brought up Alright Fucker I didn't know if you had anything to add I haven't seen either of them Oh, hey, that's fucking easy then Remember the Titans Homework The list of movies I need to watch is Healthy and long Dude, mine's long too. I totally get it.
00:28:28
But I mean, remember the Titans. I don't know. They're like... I love that movie. So you said Kevin Costner, so let's go to Field of Dreams and the Sandlot. Okay.
00:28:41
One skin, you're a dick. Again, I know. This is what happens when you just write them down and put them in so you don't see them at all. Okay. They gotta go against each other eventually. I don't know if this makes it easier for you, but like i say you're killing me smalls way more than necessary and i the sandlot is funny it has the funny aspect to it i don't remember field of dreams being very funny i do remember enjoying the movie and i like i loved that it was iowa yeah and like we kind of have that connection to it yeah but like i go with funny more when especially when it comes to the same i was just at our age at least mine it was such like a there's it's when it hits you in those certain years where you watch it over and over and over and that's kind of how it was for me for sandlot yeah i mean sandlot's so good yeah and obviously field of dreams is really good too but i remember i remember my dad made a comment one time and and it was it wouldn't have anything to do with my parents' relationship, but it was like, that wife is so cool.
00:29:49
She just supports him so much. Like, I'm going to do this, and she's just blindly like, sounds good. Let's do it. So his comment wasn't necessarily to my mom, but I remember him saying that, kind of like having you ride or die. Like, no, this is a bad idea, but he feels like he has to do this. We're doing this. Of like an aspect that was really cool that I just got from watching with my dad. You know what I mean? That's awesome. That's something that's not talked about. That is so cool to have a partner. It's like, you care? We're doing it. I got your back. I mean, I guess if we're going to go broke, I don't know.
00:30:22
Yep. I don't know why we have to do this, but we got to do it. You know what I mean? Type of a deal. So that aspect is just something that I always think about. Kind of like when you go to your wife and you're like, I'm going to start a podcast. Fucking go do it. Why are you waiting? Fucking get out there. Yeah, get out there. Dummy. Come on. But we're not putting any money into it, right? we are rolling in the red no no baby so I just it's going to be hard for me I do love the Sandlot and I felt like it was something that like I made we made our kids watch it it was a big part of it but I'm going to go feel the dreams yeah I've got to go Sandlot I showed my kids I saw it too much the end honestly was the best part to me when James Earl Jones you find out they're so scared of him or whatever and it's like he ends up being a blind person, but he played with Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth and all them.
00:31:16
It's like, dude, that was such an ending I didn't see coming. Not like a usual suspects type spin, but still, I don't think anyone saw that coming. So I just came up with something that we're going to do going forward. This is our third bracket. Yeah. From now on, we're going to do a bracket. We're all going to fill out our own. We're going to have one that gets win, but then we can share the rest of them because right now I'm the fucking odd man out on all these things. My bracket looks different than that one Just for the record And how you seeded them or just how you're voting? No, just how I'm voting Nothing about seeding I just get my own copy so we can share Get a little hot under the collar Get a little hot under the collar I'm fucking getting pissed off Shaun wants to have his bracket to say To all the people that are writing all these mean comments See, I didn't vote for them You know what?
00:32:05
Fuck these guys If anyone's looking for someone to be on their podcast But whatever. You guys can have your own too. No, I know. The one thing with Sandlot that I kind of forgot about is it's not just comedy too. It's also like... No, it's very serious. It's both, and that's what I did like. I mean, there's definitely more funny moments, but there's him with his stepdad, and he can't connect with him, right? And then they do at the end. He stole his fucking Babe Ruth signed ball and got it demolished by a mastiff. You know what I mean? But then it worked out. But then like watching Benny go on and play in the majors Benny the Jet you know gotta put on those Converse and you're fast as shit I love too like when he's announcing cause he ends up being an announcer yeah but he's got the like the fucking bill on his hat always drove me nuts why was it nine feet long why was it so stupid right I've they've never made a hat like that again I it's like they'd especially make that I'm like what was that I do remember seeing it used to be like a fishing hat type thing ugh It was like a surfboard attached to the front of me.
00:33:09
It was awful. All right. Anyway. All right. Hoosiers. So good. Basketball. Oh. Two movies that are not alike at all. Not alike at all. Totally different. Different feelings about them. Hoosiers. Hickory. Yeah. One's pure comedy. One's not like that. One had fucking Gene Hackman in it, just for the record. And his prime. Might be. Yeah. His prime of like 50-some years old. You know what I mean? But I mean like after-wise. But yeah. Yeah. He was so good in that. I love him.
00:33:43
Basketball, I still have a core memory of watching this. One of my buddies that like just had the most obnoxious laugh ever and loving it. Just like watching it because of his laugh. Then watching it later and it not being as good because he wasn't there. Was it for Rams? No. I don't know why, but like Josh Kruse. I don't know why that was where my mind went. Did you know Josh Kruse? I don't think so. Oh, he had this just, like, just. Oh, yeah. It was, like, almost sounded fake. You know what I mean? And you're, like. But it was, like, legit. That was just his laugh. And I'm just. Yeah. So.
00:34:19
I. It's, like. I gotta go. I gotta go Hoosiers. It's just been. Yeah. I think it's. Yeah, I think your heart always leans toward the serious side of sports. It probably does. Yeah. But because I really like. But I really like sports. Like, so. Right. I really. You're passionate. Like, I'm passionate. so I'm passionate about sports and that reminds me of playing sports. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:34:41
I'm sorry. I've only seen Hoosiers once. It was never my favorite movie. I love Gene Hackman, though, but it's baseball. And again, fucking turn on Jimmy Chipwood. What? Yeah. It's just it's one of those things. Jimmy Chipwood was maybe the greatest that never went pro. All right. He had to help out the farm. I'm sorry, but like I fucking love baseball. Like, and again, it's not a serious movie. Oh, my God. One of Britney's mom's pubic hairs. Ooh, dude. Nice psych out. Ooh, here's another one. Like, so many good lines in that movie. Your mom goes out with squeak. Yeah. Remember what I quoted? I said, wake up, bitch.
00:35:19
You're my new best friend. Can we go to the zoo? Yeah. Go ahead. Okay, so this is really tough because I don't think I've actually seen basketball. Oh. What? Are you shitting me? What's funny is it's the South Park guys. Yeah. I love them. Trey Parker and Matt Stone. But I always didn't want to watch their more regular movies, I guess. I just watched South Park. Yeah. I have seen Hoosiers, and I really enjoyed it, but I've only seen it once. Yeah. We're going to give Shaun the... I was going to say you have to. Shaun's going to get a win here. We're going with Hoosiers. I feel like you haven't seen Basecaball.
00:36:03
You nailed it, man. Hey! Look at me go. I also like Matt and Trey. Yeah. Oh, yeah. But it's one of those movies I missed. Yeah. And Hoosiers is a great movie. It is. I can't believe Basecaball just lost it. Oh. Well, you put it against Hoosiers. You've got to take some losses in this bracket. Right? Yeah. I will say there's one movie that stands out. You can make the bracket. It just isn't your bracket, all right? Fuck this bracket. I've seen a couple movies Multiple times in the theater Where I was like it was so good I have to go again We saw Baseball nine times in the theater Did you really?
00:36:39
Because that was when the Dollar Theater was around And we were young And we went like fucking nine days and 15 days Were you Drunkenstone before you went in? Nope Shut up What year did Baseball come out? 98 I think that's another reason Yeah you'd been young I mean, I might have had a drink. But not then. Yeah, I was junior, senior. Yeah, I was senior year, so that was hilarious, but yeah. Sorry, Hoosiers is... I mean, that's just... Come on. I was six in 1998, so I didn't see it. How fucking... Hey, whenever you want to shut that mic off as well. Hold on. This is blowing my mind. I knew you were younger. How old were you?
00:37:23
33. 3. Yeah. Why do you think he knows how to do all this technical shit? Marnie. You little cradle robber. Okay. Alright. Marnie sent me notes for this episode that I will share with you at the end. She has strong thoughts about this episode. That's funny. Hey, Marnie. High five. Good job. Alright. Jesus Christ. Moving on. 42. Oh. Okay. Chadwick Boseman. Jackie Robinson story. The program. Oh, okay. Which a lot of people haven't seen. The program? Dude, you'd be shocked. So many people don't even know what that movie is. Oh, it's fucking phenomenal. I still think it's one of the best college football movies ever made.
00:38:09
Did you see before they took out the scene where they're laying on the highway? Do you remember that? Yeah, but what do you mean they took it out? They took it out of the theater. They took it out. The movie, it was opening weekend that they did that. and a bunch of fucking guys got out there and laid in the middle of the highway and got ran over and they fucking took the scene out of the movie. I'm pretty sure it's on. I have the DVD still. Well, it might be on the DVD now, but I'm saying in the theaters. Holy shit. Literally, like, there was, like, whatever. A bunch of guys got out there and they got in the fucking highway and got ran over.
00:38:39
No, I had no idea. That's crazy. Dude, that big roided out guy who, like... Latimer? When they're, like, hawking loogies in each other's mouths. Start your defense! Dude. Place at the table! Yeah. And he fucking busts his head open. Busts his head open? Yeah. Oh, so good And remember who they get injured against? Oh, the Hawks That's who talks I remember you, you poo-butt motherfucker You're the one who got my sister pregnant How do you remember all the lines? Oh, I love it It's such a good movie Funny, I haven't seen you around much anymore Oh, that was James Caan too, right? Yeah, he was the coach I almost said Gene Hackman again, but no, it's James Caan That was to me That was one of the first like I was younger. I don't know.
00:39:25
That had to come out like 94 or something like that It was the first sports movie in 93 93 so i was 10 when it came out so i remember that being a big part i programmed by the way yeah it was one of the first sports movies me where i was like oh fuck i realize now i'm obsessed with sports yeah i'm like i'm into sports movies yeah so so you're going to the program have you seen it i haven't seen either okay but that's why i said i know a lot of people haven't seen them even when I wrote it down, I'm like, I'm guessing Shaun's seen this. And I'm like, but I know most of our friends even haven't seen that movie. I'm going the program.
00:40:00
And by the way, I am a massive Chadwick Boseman fan and 42 was fucking awesome. It's only because it's the program. And it was so good for like everything, that part of it. But I mean, the program was... I fucking loved it. It was so good. Stained in my blood for that one. To be honest, I feel a shame that I haven't seen some of these because I'm like, man, I shouldn't. Hey, you're getting a huge longer to take home so and i do vaguely remember hearing about the people laying down that being a thing yeah are you injured or are you hurt yeah i don't know what's the difference well if you're injured you can't play if you're hurt get back in the fucking home all right the program or come on one of the biggest thing was the freshman kept fumbling yeah he gave him a ball and he goes if anybody brings this ball back to me at practice other than you your ass is benched so they're fighting in class. They're in class and he has the ball sitting on his table and one of the guys fucking knocks it away and the whole fucking team wipes out all the tables. Like tables start flying in the middle of like a lecture, right?
00:41:04
Because like half the football team is in there. They're basically fighting through the school like every period. It was great. That's good. Yeah. All right. Any given Sunday? Love it. Blue chips. Oh. Yep.
00:41:19
Hmm. Let's not forget blue chips like Penny Hardaway was in it Shaq was in it Was it Nick Nolte? Yeah Nick Nolte Yeah One guy wanted a tractor We got him a tractor They made him like the Larry Bird of the movie Which was so funny It was a great movie We bought Neon a Lexus He didn't even want it Neon Budeau That was Shaq's name in that movie Because the test was culturally biased since I've bowed out on the last two basically. Have you seen this? I feel like I have seen blue chips. I don't remember a lot of it. That's pretty old too.
00:42:04
Any given Sunday is an easy one for me. I really like that movie. And you notice my bias towards football too. No, for sure. Which I understand. You know that you see Jesse Spano's tits in it. I was a huge fan of Showgirls. I don't know if I ever said that. I mean, this is like then after you've kind of forgot about it. Can I also say this? This is off topic, and no one's going to believe this, but it's the actual truth. I mean, Adam can vouch for this because I've said it a long time ago. I feel like you're about to say something. I'm going to smack you. Yeah, you're going to be so pissed off.
00:42:37
I was never attracted. I never thought Kelly was like the hot one. I was always in it. I don't know what it was. I thought Jesse was hot. This fucking podcast is done. I also thought Lisa was hotter. Oh, she was hot. See? Jesse ended up being pretty hot Kelly Kropowski are you kidding me No she just I don't know She was too over Anyway moving on So yeah for me Blue Chips is Quite possibly my favorite basketball movie Uncut Gems I thought about putting on here But it's like it wasn't a basketball movie They based it around that That's what we like to call an anxiety movie But Any Given Sunday is too good Any Given Sunday has to be mine I would agree with that. I mean, Blue Chips was awesome for what it was, but I mean, any given Sunday to me is so good.
00:43:25
The six inches in front of your face. When Al Pacino goes off on his many tangents that he does. Hold on, is it that one or is that Remember the Titans where he's like, we blitz all night. No, that's fucking Remember the Titans. Yeah. Okay, that's why I was like, I couldn't remember which one that was because all of a sudden I was hearing Al Pacino say, the six inches in front of your face. Alright. It's actually a fucking great monologue. Yeah. Agreed. The Longest Yard, the new one, not the old school one. Happy Gilmore. I'm going to go Happy Gilmore. Yep. Yep. Happy Gilmore. Boy, well, you know what?
00:44:02
Boys, I like when something's easy. Well, I'm looking at the time. We got to roll somewhat through some of these. Oh, shit. All right. We're fine. Shut up. All right. Rookie of the year. Oh. I had to throw this one in here. It's so good. hot ice you heat up the ice cubes it's the best of both worlds the problem is it runs into a league of their own okay league of their own is just a buzzsaw that you're it's going to be tough to fucking beat in general yeah i did appreciate rookie of the year for just being what it was it was such a it was just kind of a corny fun like unique like just kind of a very unique concept that just turned out to be kind of a fun movie.
00:44:44
Yeah. But League of Their Own was so fucking good. So good. That's another one. It still holds up. Every time it's on, it's so good. I remember, I mean, I've admitted I'm an emotional bitch when it comes to music and sad movies and stuff. I think it's a Madonna song.
00:45:01
What is the song called? It used to be my playground. I don't know if that's what it's called. It used to be my playground. God, dude, I'd tear up every time. It was so cool. yeah so like it's like oh so good yeah so yeah it's and i love rookie of the year and i think i think they did an amazing job ending that movie yeah that they're all going to the hall you know that they're like what a great way just uh yeah so it was really well done yeah i really liked rookie of the year but i could not vote ever vote against a league of their own yeah it's it's definitely a one seed it was remember i did pick four ones and put them in here but then i didn't I didn't.
00:45:38
So I wrote this first. We don't know your ones. You know. Exactly. So. And there's like three baseball movies that I'm going to put at the top. So. Yeah. All right.
00:45:51
Rocky. One. I also didn't go any sequels. It's like the original is all you get. Okay. Dodgeball. Very different movies. So I got. I got mine. But you can. I yeah you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball I know can you dodge a fist like one of the most like funny quotable easily the average joes baby like it was so hard to like vote against a movie like rocky it's like iconic right yeah but are you voting for rocky one or voting for rocky the whole and you can't see this is what I'm saying like so so I will tell you I'm dodgeball because i think that's better rocky as a whole is amazing yes i don't necessarily think rocky one is amazing although i it's not my favorite one out of all the rockies but it's definitely not my worst but yeah so that's part of the problem for me too is when it comes to rocky it all blurs together sure yeah i i would probably say a quote and you'd be like no that was from fucking two or whatever sure yeah um yeah dodgeball i gotta go dodgeball i'll go dodgeball until we're all through dodgeball baby okay yeah four for four i'll keep this fast but i was having this conversation the other day about home alone versus home alone 2 and i was comparing it to pac-man and miss pac-man because what happens is people are like oh i love pac-man but what they're picturing in their head
00:47:21
is probably miss pac-man because that was actually the game that was in everything correct yeah Correct. Same thing. Oftentimes when people are thinking about Home Alone, they're thinking about Home Alone 2. They're picturing that in their heads. Same thing here. Rocky's a great movie. Rocky 4, when you're fighting the fucking Russian, that's as good as it gets. When you think Rocky, you're thinking about others. Which, by the way, leads into a bracket we'll do eventually with the one-liners. If he dies, he dies. You know what I mean? Shout out to Dolph Lundgren. All right, that side's done.
00:47:54
Days of Thunder. major league oh you son of a bitch see i fucking like days of thunder which i know that like is a lot of like you know it's a knockoff of top gun you know whatever it's still it's i'm dropping the hammer no you're not the hammer colton yeah but what's he say he's like you're out there looking like a bunch of monkeys trying to fucking football like i had sponsors in the stands i'm Hugging, holding hands, kissing in the ear, praying for good showing. And what do we do? We end up looking like a monkey fucking a football. There it is. Yeah. I'll just never forget monkey fucking a football with that movie.
00:48:35
Okay. So Major League was one of the other baseball movies that I would have said I put up in the top. But I can't vote against Days of Thunder, man. I didn't even like racing. And everybody in my town. still don't like racing but i loved racing yeah it kind of got me into it a little bit and and it was fun and it was you know cool yeah you know okay for nicole kidman was super hot in that true yeah i i am going to say mine or you want to go i'll go okay i'm 100 major league so am i oh shit yeah okay you were scared i didn't want you to say the same thing and like i was hoping Oh, no. The amount, like Major League is probably, it's not probably, it is my favorite baseball movie of all time.
00:49:27
Hey, bartender, Joe Boo needs a refill. I said, fuck you, Joe Boo. I'll do it myself. Actually, that's Major League 2, I think, when he says that. Yeah, because in the original. No, it was number one. Was it? No, he's up there. He's up to bat because he's up there. No, the part you said is one. Yeah, but then I think. Yours was number one also. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Because I'm like, I get too confused. Because number one is really good. Two gets a little, because it goes from R to PG. Yeah. You know, when you're an R, then it was like, yeah. But, dude, like, when they're every win they get, they get to rip off a piece of the owner's clothing.
00:49:57
God, it's so fucking funny, man. Oh, it's great. And then one is where he fucks Doran's wife, right? Yeah. I didn't know.
00:50:10
All right. Major League. Should have got him a live chicken. Oh, Serrano? All right. fuck money ball oh rounders jesus christ man yeah i'm gonna say it right now you know what mine is so i'm like i'm out of this one this is you guys why don't you go rounders okay that was bad have you seen money ball yeah now your jam yeah i mean it's good it's a really good movie just so good, but I love Rounders more than... Rounders is probably one of my favorite things. I would put Rounders over most of the movies. Rounders is in my top three movies of all time. Just like a young man coming in for a quickie.
00:50:58
I feel so unsatisfied. Alright, Rounders moves on. That's right, people. Poker is a sport. I was going to say, you're really telling the line on that. I saw multiple lists and it was on there and I'm like, you're goddamn right it is. I was like, we're rolling with this baby. And if anyone listening has not seen Rounders, it's on the ESPN, it's the Sports Network. Amen. Also, so is fucking Spelling Bee and... Well then, hey, is there a Spelling Bee movie? Yeah. And if you don't like it, make sure you tell Mike in the comments. Can't wait for that. Alright, any given Sunday, we're on to round two.
00:51:38
What? We're on to round two. Oh, weird. yeah yeah i thought you were saying another movie i'm like what the fuck are you talking you're like it's a sex movie right so they're moving on uh he he did it no uh any given sunday and rudy oh i think i know where sean is every time on this one but i don't think you do yeah well i don't i might be surprised yeah no i am any given sunday i like rudy i really do i love the whole thing but i think any given sunday is one of the best actual sports movies it's awesome yeah i think it's awesome for every detail behind the scenes to you know like that what like the clip of him has been going viral like because they're like my home's coming home to britney going i'm not i'm hurt or whatever and she's like you're a quarterback i didn't see that oh yeah it's when he's like i already got rings and blah blah i'm a little hurt she's like you're You're a quarterback. You play.
00:52:35
Oh, that's awesome. I didn't see that. I'd actually go any given Sunday. I agree. I agree. This is where I'll read Marnie's text. Oh, no. She's going to say Rudy. I texted her and I said, the episode of the recording is a sports movie bracket. And she just replied, Rudy.
00:52:55
Right back and say, Rudy was offside. And then she sent a gif that says, hands down, and then said, at least two of them grew up Catholic. It's Rudy. if they don't choose it, God will smite them. Easy, Marty. Come on. He smited me a while ago. It's fine. We made up. We're good. We can still root for... Yeah, I still love the movie. But again, if you're like, what do you want to watch five times over the next two weeks? It's like, it's going to be... It is hard to... Rudy. Yeah. For the record, I also... I would vote for Rudy. Yeah. So it's not going to die without a vote. My vote doesn't count as much.
00:53:30
You're also just trying to stay out of the doghouse. We can say that. We got you, Marnie. All right. Caddyshack, Karate Kid. Ooh. It's getting tougher. Well, it's getting tougher because one is like, as I'm older, which one do I like better? That's the thing. Every time we do this, I'm like, should we justify what is just more nostalgic and what is right now? Somebody else probably needs... I keep jumping in to go first. i think that's why the the confused breakfast does the i think that's why i think it's smart it's huge to like think about yeah but then you'd have to like do them to you know it's separate so it's karate kid for me yeah i would probably have to say the same thing as much as i love caddy no sam i might honestly 99 of the way i look at these brackets especially if it's something you're watching is rewatchability how much could i if i watched it once would i want to watch it immediately again i could watch karate kid a couple times in the same day and i'll be all right there's certain like i don't want to watch caddyshack over and over and over yeah yeah so i get it karate kid all right let's go somewhere else hoosiers in the program oh jesus wow oh oh i i'd say i'd go first but like i was clear and before this i would actually i'm this isn't
00:55:05
gonna be easy but i would go hoosiers i just yeah jimmy chipwood come on jimmy chipwood you gotta go first because the program yeah i'm not i'm not i've again i've seen hoosiers and i i It wasn't the movie for me. So, I've only seen Hoosiers, and I haven't seen the program, but the program's a football movie, and that's what I would watch. Dude, you have to watch the program. If I have to go with that. It's so good. It's so fucking good. Make that the number one movie you take away from this. But he's just saying, anything that's football isn't going to be first. So I understand what you're saying.
00:55:43
Logan, what do you think? I haven't seen Hoosiers. Yeah, that's true. So I can't help. I'm sorry. Program sounds cool. I'm super excited to watch that one, to be honest. It's good. I mean, it's a little dated now, but I think the program has to win here because, like, if I'm being honest, I like users, but I'm not going to go home and watch it right now. Yeah. Well, yeah, I mean, fucking watch programs. But I don't want to go home watch users. Yeah. All right. Come on. Okay. Sorry, Shaun.
00:56:19
I'm not happy about it. All right. Mighty Ducks. Replacements. I got replacements all day. So is mine. Really? Yeah. Dude, I love the replacements. There's a reason. You know what would win? Miracle. Oh, that's weird because it lost a long time. Yeah. Hold on. Let me look. Oh, it's way back there. I don't know what happened. It would have been next up and it would have won. Buzzsaw.
00:56:52
There's a reason I opened with the can crack line I did. The Replacements is that fucking movie. I love it. Talladega Nights. This one's going to be fun. Happy Gilmore. Oh.
00:57:07
I know mine. Do you know yours? No. so man this is actually really i will i'll go talladega nights and it's not as close as i answered or it's closer than that it was tough but i i fucking love talladega nights i think that there is these few movies of will ferrell that were unbelievable and that was yeah I get that I have to go Happy Gilmore just because mainly the nostalgia I think it's the nostalgia a little bit I watched that so many times and still could go back to it but I mean I really love Talladega Nights too, that's a tough one same, mine's same though it's Happy Gilmore that's a one seed to me i'm just curious for comedy yeah i re-watched both of them recently and i mentioned talladega nights was an interesting re-watch it's it's really funny it's a great film and you're totally right about will ferrell's like rise and that how good he is then it's so good but that movie is just a bunch of vignettes and scenes sewed together sure happy gilmore is a a better tighter really strong movie sure like with a surprisingly legitimate plot and like driving force to it Sure.
00:58:30
Because Happy Gilmore 2, we then watched and reviewed. That was in your first or your last, right? I mean, fuck. First or last. I know. So it's Happy Gilmore for me. It's a goddamn cougar in the car. I know there's a cougar in the car. I put it in there. So I was like, I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew. Come at you like a spider monkey. All right. I'll get it. Yep. All right.
00:58:51
Dodge. I feel like I could just write this next one and not do this. But a dodgeball and a league of their own. No, it's not. Sorry, it's a league of their own. It's a league of their own. Dodgeball, you know, whatever. Yeah. It's disappointing to see Dodgeball fall. Would you have taken Dodgeball or Happy Gilmore?
00:59:11
I would have done Happy Gilmore Yeah I love Dodgeball Again Happy Gilmore is such a buzzsaw I think those movies are closer in comparison Comparison, yeah.
00:59:24
Two more for this. Sandlot. Remember the Titans. Not happy right now. Disney vs Disney. Not happy right now. Ooh, alright. I would probably go I think I'm going to go Remember the Titans I like the Sandlot I really do But it's not I will say For even rewatchability I can rewatch Remember the Titans over and over Just like I can Sandlot And one is obviously funnier And one's more serious But Remember the Titans sticks with me more and how important.
01:00:11
Just as its moments and things. So that would be my vote. I was going to say that. I just wanted to leave you the room to debate it. Get real. Yeah, fight with myself internally. No, it's totally fine. I respect Erik's tactics here. He's really sitting back and laughing at people. And if you watch his face, you can see him do it. He'll just do this. He totally does. It's very obvious. And I'm like, well, he's not talking. Feel free to slow motion that too.
01:00:42
Please no. Major League and Rounders. Whoa. Fuck me running. You did this to yourself. You did. I should have had Kara just pick 32 movies and write them down. I'd be less mad right now. I like it though. I feel like I did it. I know I did it to myself. but again i like it when i gotta think about it where i'm not just like for sure but this shows i didn't like cherry picketing i just wrote yeah i didn't go like this needs to not be with this yeah you kind of took your one seeds and separated them and that was it that was about it yep that was it that's all i did major league and rounders okay i am gonna go with major league but it is damn that's hard because i love rounders for every every bit of the story and everything else but just major league i watched that one i watched all the different major leagues and that first one we quoted all the time growing up and it was like probably one of the maybe not the first but like i was younger when i watched that r-rated movie and oh yeah loved it you know i mean it was just like uh yep yeah it stuck with me for sure so i am gonna i'm gonna go major league rounders like you shouldn't put this on the list if you didn't want me to vote for it So that's kind of where I'm at.
01:02:09
These, honestly, in this whole thing would probably be like one and two. You're not going to break my heart either way. No, I know that. But I'm just saying to myself to make myself feel better because it feels so weird to vote against Major League. But Rounders is my it movie. I watch it when I'm upset. I watch it when I'm happy. I mean, it is your jam. I love it. I've burned out one DVD where I watched it so many times it didn't play right anymore, and it was Rounders. If it makes you feel better, too, I do think Rounders as a movie itself is a better put together movie. Oh, yeah. Better story.
01:02:45
Yeah. It's a better story. It's like very good continuity. Yeah. So I would challenge that a little bit because have you seen all the major leagues or just? I think I've seen the first three. I don't know. Okay. Because I think the first one is actually a really well put together movie. Then it kind of drops off. So I think you could be getting kind of clouded by the other ones. That's true. number one is actually a really good one is the best serious you know yeah but anyways so yeah the first one great movie i'm just saying yeah i think when you think about like the the way that the drama plays with the comedy and like the cool factor i just feel like rounders is one of those iconic movies got it we're starting to see like it's very hard to beat the nfl all right what are we at here we're gonna do the elite eight so we're we're not we're almost done uh all right we'll go Happy Gilmore, A League of Their Own.
01:03:40
Yeah. Has to be. Again, it's a buzzsaw. It'd be different if Happy Gilmore was against another comedy. Another comedy, but when it comes out, yeah. Used to be my playground. Are you trying to make me cry? You got the song ahead now. I'm all about Dottie here. Alright. Karate Kid, Any Given Sunday. i know my pick is gonna be i think it's controversial here but because i think it's any given sunday i loved that movie so much even though karate kid was fucking massive you want to go or you want me to go i'm fine either way i'm still thinking about it mine's any given sunday and and i love i loved karate kid but i honestly only watched karate kid like a handful of times and it was never like my my movie that defined me whereas any given sunday i watched a lot of people don't like any given like really a lot of people didn't like that campy and too over the top and stuff like that but it's like dude it's it's such a fun movie it's really hard for from a nostalgia perspective for me to vote against karate kid yeah but if i think about like what do i want to watch right now any given sunday yeah because i don't think if i go back to karate kid right now i'm gonna have that same feeling yeah it's a little bit boring now i think it's like it's fun to watch every now and then but not like over and over and over yeah i think what i loved about any given sunday it kind of showed kind of the shitty part about being in the nfl you're like and it wasn't even then but it was like people that are like
01:05:16
killing themselves to get their million dollar bonus you know i mean like to whatever you know They almost made it like Was the team the Raiders? No it was the Sharks baby That's right but like I felt like They made it like The owner of the Raiders At that time Fucking Al Oh yeah Al Davis Davis yeah No because it was a girl she owned it No I know but I'm just saying Like the way What's his name Pacino kind of was like I know he was just the coach and he wasn't the owner but they made it like dirty and gritty and like yeah I don't know that's how it felt I mean they were black and white though their colors were yeah maybe that's why I'm thinking wait really quick before you move on you're all insane let me represent the person in the car who's driving and yelling at you in the car I'll drive this off the edge of the road like the fact that you just threw Karate Kid off to the side like dirty trash not easily No, hey, he made a deep run, Daniel-san.
01:06:24
All right? He has Cobra Kai now. He doesn't need Karate Kid. Fair enough. Yeah. He's doing just fine. We checked to them first, then we threw them off the edge. The program, Remember the Titans. Whoa.
01:06:39
Okay. I'm not going first here. I have to be Remember the Titans. Because I haven't seen the program, and I think they're both good. probably going to be good but i think you're going to go remember the titans no dude i i still own the dvd when i got rid of all my dvds i kept five i have rounders i have the program i have a weird horror movie that you can't buy anywhere i had to get it on ebay that sounds bad it's a it's legal folks um horror horror yeah yeah not horror horror yes yes legal in most states um I have Pool Hall Junkies, which I thought about putting on here, but I was like, I know only me and you have seen that, and I guarantee no one else has seen it.
01:07:24
That's my favorite pool movie ever. And you should go watch it. Quick add-in, Pool Hall Junkies is the greatest pool movie of all time. It's so funny. It's so good. You should watch it. And then one other movie that I can't think of right now. But anyway, I think I have to go to the program because I love it that much. I've loved it since the first time I saw it, and it's rated R. I think it's rated R I think so but it's just very raw and it showed like the steroid side and the losing your mind kind of like the Any Given Sunday thing we were talking about and it never was a huge movie and like well it was but not as big as I think it could have been I think it had some holes in it from the standpoint of the way it was actually marketed the movie yeah well i think it was marketed really well and i think they had really good people i'm not sure if it was i just think whatever i think that they maybe didn't it just seems a lot lower budget as far as like the pictures and yeah yeah yeah but i mean hallie is in it so like hallie berry yeah uh james khan yeah fucking omar epps and who who's the guy that gets hurt like he's the big black dude yeah he's what was his name he's been in i don't know what he's been in but he's again if you're if you live in iowa it's i was hurt playing hawkeyes because the hawkeyes took him out so yeah so anyways i just see omar epps on here i would go
01:08:55
shit i'm gonna go i would go program also uh and i don't hey yeah to the program yeah yeah i can hear chris right now i definitely need to watch it i it is rated r by the way oh okay why what what would Chris say? Oh, he loves Remember the Titans. Oh, I mean, I do too, but the program is fucking... It's that dirty movie that people haven't seen. You're like, bro, this is so good. You need to watch this. Alright.
01:09:21
This might be the worst one for me. The Replacements and Rounders. Ooh. Fuck. So, I'm going to go Rounders.
01:09:35
I'm a big fan of The Replacements, but actually, when it comes down to it. Rounders, yeah. Let me go with that one. I think we're on agreement, because I just, again, I love the replacements. You didn't have to ask me. I know. I looked at it. I'm like, we're just some poker fools over here. And we don't even play a lot anymore, but that's how good that movie was. But it is also just a good movie, too. It's a great movie. I mean, it had fucking Edward Norton in it. Yeah. So, even on his worst day, he's one of the best. Yeah. And fucking Jason Bourne was in it. Yeah. Which is crazy. I think that was his name.
01:10:05
Dear God, I think that's Jason Bourne. Yeah. also let's not forget about the professional poker players that were in it like you know what i mean it's a great fucking movie and john malkovich all right rounders crushes we have our final four and while i didn't see this coming i think this is a solid ass final four all right any given sunday a league of their own oh they're both sitting in front of me what am i gonna watch like it comes down to those two like the top screen's at the bottom one's that one which one am i gonna pick go ahead mike you got your not going first so i i gotta just go not just how often i watch it because i would i would watch them both pretty much over and over i think they were that good um it's got to be a league of their own okay for me yeah i was gonna say a league of their own for me yeah like you you saying the name that makes me want to watch it again it's so good love it so much dude when he pisses for like two minutes it's so funny oh whatever when he's praying he's like thanks for the waitress and he's like you know her she said your name i'm like that's awesome but i'd still like if they were sitting here and i had two to pick i would pick any given sunday yeah i really would But when it comes out of those two, if there's just two DVDs sitting here, I had to pick it.
01:11:34
That's what I want to do. I get it. I can't be mad about either one. That's how great they are. We're getting into the shit.
01:11:47
All right. Rounders and the program. All right. I kind of hate this because I have to default to one. Not even just because of it being my favorite, but because i really haven't seen the program yeah like i'm gonna watch it this week well maybe we'll agree and it won't matter yeah who knows well so i i'm i'll go rounders i mean i just think it i i love the program although you know but rounders is so good that it's and when that when that comes up it's just that's the same yeah so so you're okay you're okay okay see we program is not we got your back i can i can foresee this though the internet is going to be so pissed that you put the round put rounders in this bracket yeah just the fact that they're in it the amount of people are in the final game they might learn that they might win this i thought this was a sports movie bracket that's poker hey go yourself make your own bracket i'm kidding i love you all but like really it's on espn it's on espn you know what i mean make your own spelling bee bracket or chess or pick one jenga all right where we going rounders and league of their own i don't want to pick between these two it's so different and what i'm picking and they're so goddamn good okay and i feel like half the people who have seen a league of their own have never seen rounders so they're gonna be like what the hell is going on but so i do have oh so i'll make mine easy i'm gonna say a league of their own strictly on the fact that i think it's
01:13:22
more of a sports movie and like sports history and just cool in that way yeah i like rounders better in general as a movie but like i do think i'm just kidding illegal their own is the better sports movie if you're saying sports movie i can see what you're saying yeah but i just and again i know everyone can fucking blast me all they want i made this so i'm gonna lie in my bed and take it it's not the sportiest of sports movies but it's a sports movie and i looked on multiple lists and went like this has to be on at least one other list is how i kind of went with it sure and that that's why there was some on there where it's like uncut gems and i'm like that doesn't feel just because they talk to a basketball player sure and watch basketball bet on it um i gotta go rounders so you're throwing this on me god couldn't happen to a better person I mean, if we were going to end a bracket piss and Shaun off anyway, this would be the way to do it.
01:14:25
Also, anyone that knows me, like, knows my obsession with that movie. Like, I just think it's a great, I just love that movie. Sure. So, Star Quality, it's got both, right? We got, like, Tom Hanks. We got... Gina Davis. Gina Davis, yeah. You know, Edward Norton and... Matt Damon. Matt Damon. I mean, Jason Bourne. John Malkovich. John now John Turow got that but then Why these girls always fall in love with John. Oh, fuck how good is he in that? Oh, dude? He's so funny All right on top of I do I love rounders like I loved it for all I love the suspense and everything else but uh we're doing a sports thing and it is going to be uh league of their own yeah sorry it's gonna be like when it comes out they're both they're both really they're both really good movies and if you would have told me that we're gonna do a sports thing and like league of their own was gonna win again i'm not quite sure how we got here i don't hate it i don't hate it yeah i mean it's did none of this i wouldn't have just boldly picked it if it was just a list of the names but you wouldn't have to say like this is one right yeah but it was a great fucking movie all the way through it was sports driven through the whole thing and it's yeah it's dude it's start to finish amazing comedy yeah suspense like you know
01:16:03
feel good feel bad feel sad i'm gonna be blown are you still a fall down drunk no i've kind of cleaned up my ways. Oh, good for you. Seen the area of your ways? No, I'm just out of money.
01:16:16
Shaun forgets 99% of what we ask him, but like you just see some random movie he hasn't watched in eight years. He's like, oh, I still remember nine quotes from that. Love it, love it, love it, love it. So good. So Leaking of the Role moves on. Again, I don't think any of us are mad at it. I don't think anyone can be mad at it. You know, the final four was The Program. If you haven't seen that movie, it's a little old now from the 90s but it's such a good movie uh any given sunday great movie league of their own and rounders um well whether you like poker or not rounders is a good movie i'll say that too yeah obviously like edward norton being edward norton seen it so yeah yeah so we can all argue that but good shit i feel good i'm not mad about it i feel good yeah i'm not mad about it for once when we finish a bracket so i mean i'm a little mad at myself you have an ender for us yeah should Should we finish up with a dad joke?
01:17:07
I don't know. How easy is it? Where is the best place for a baseball player to wash his socks? At home. Oh, fuck. That's a good answer. Wait, hold on. But it's not correct. Oh, then it's... You know how fucking excited I was going to be that it was going to be? In the bleachers.
01:17:26
I like at home better. We are rewriting that joke. It's at home, baby. That does make more sense. Oh, man. I was pretty proud of you for that one because I didn't think of that. I feel like an idiot for what I said. Fuck. Well, with that being said, hey, Mike, thanks for putting it together. I know that it's 32 things coming up with it. Yeah. Chime in. Tell us what you think about it. We loved it. That was awesome. That was fun. Yeah. That was really good. And, man, I love sports movies. I do, too. I love them. I just think they're so good. If you don't watch them, check a couple out. Check a couple of this list out.
01:18:05
I guarantee you will like some of these. They're so good. There's feel good, there's comedy, there's sad, there's fucking ridiculous if you want to watch Talladega Nights or Happy Gilmore, but God damn it. The first round is a little upsetting, but I thought he'd forgotten about it, but apparently not. Yeah, sorry to all the movies that got up against Rounders. Yeah. You know what? It is what it is. Always bet on black. Anyway, that's the line for Passenger 57. But anyway, moving on. Thank you guys so much. Again, if you guys have any feedback or you guys want us to shout out anything, or if you have a bracket idea, email us at we'restillcoolright at gmail.com.
01:18:43
Shout out again to Benz for sponsoring us. We really, really appreciate it. And, yeah. Just like that, we'll see you again. Cheers. Thanks, guys.
