Episode two, we told you we'd be back. We're back, baby. We're back because we're having fun and we told you we were going to do it no matter if you watch it or not. I know. But it was harder. It was harder. Life is getting in the way. Yeah, yeah. Even when it's something I want to do so bad. I know. How late are we? Three weeks. Three weeks? Yeah. Yeah. So if anyone doesn't know, we live in Iowa and it snows here. It fucking sucks. And it does it on the day we're going to record it. It really loves to snow on Wednesdays. Which is in between the days that we only have free because of the kids stuff.
00:00:33
Yeah. There's either kids stuff, and lately it's been sickness. Yeah, and every asshole in town is sick. This winter, and I do this every fucking year. So I blame me, but I know we all do this. It was not a month ago I was going like, I think we're going to have a pretty light winter. I didn't even have – That's right when it – I know, and I didn't even have my snowblower out. I was like, we might get out of this pretty good. And then it wasn't a week later. I'm like, fuck. Yeah. And the snow hit, and then the snow hit, and then we get below zero for a straight week, which we're still in right now.
00:01:04
And, yeah, it's my fault. But it's going to be 40 this weekend. Yeah. I mean, it's going to be great. I know. Where it's going to be a fucking heat wave. But then I'm going to get confident that it's here, and then it's going to come right back. The thing is, you can't put your snowblower away. No. Because that's like the whole groundhog thing. We're immediately fucked if we put our snowblower away. Once you put it away, yeah. It's then you're – In big trouble. Which, thank God. I had the snow blower because we added to our driveway, you know, and made it wider. Oh, fuck, you did. I didn't even think of that.
00:01:32
Dude, now the snow doesn't even... I have to... It's ridiculously wide. You know what I mean? Yeah. Do you really have to do all of it? You just feel like... You feel like you need to. Because now Sophie has a car. So mine... Oh, shit. All three of us are in the garage. So, yes. And if we're going to have it, I might as well do it. And I got the snow. Yeah, yeah. I know. You'd feel like a pushover. But still, as I was doing... I'm that neighbor who's lazy. This is a little ridiculous. This is a little stupid. I remember saying when I bought my house, though, I'm like, when you buy your first home, you don't think about certain things.
00:02:01
I never would think to look at the driveway and consider that that's a problem. And now I'm like, can I have a one stall skinny fucking driveway? Real short fits one car. Just for children, please, yes. But that's those things we learn as we get older. Now I would always look at the driveway. I don't even think I gave two shits about my driveway. Well, yours is kind of narrow and it opens up and then it's long and yeah you got and you got all kinds of it's longer than it looks yeah i mean you could fit probably five cars in a row right plus there's the other half that is half of it that's yeah yeah so i mean it's not too bad but it just it's those things right like you know as logan's getting older i'm like telling him things that he needs to look at and i know if i went up to him right now i'm like when you look at your first house make sure you look at the driveway he's like you're a fucking idiot well honestly when i found when our first house was like thank God, we can afford this thing.
00:02:51
Like, I can't believe, I didn't think this would ever happen. Oh, that was the first thought. Let alone, like, what the driveway is. Wait, I can't believe they said yes. Yeah, right. Wait, we actually got the loan. Wait a minute, wait a minute, what are they thinking? Yeah. So, yeah, but we're back to, I guess we should say the name of our podcast, which is, we're still cool, right? Yeah. And it's just been another week of dealing with sickness and kids and certain kids hitting buzzer beaters. Yeah, yeah. Cooper my son has a flair for the dramatic it's just kind of his thing But he's a beast at sports, you know, well he plays all the sports He's not he really likes them. He really likes it. Yeah He's not like the you know, he's really in all the ones he does. He's nowhere near the best his classes Insanely athletic they're gonna win if they stick together this class will win. Here's how sporty your kids things I forgot lacrosse was a sport. Yeah until a couple years ago. You're like, oh, he's playing lacrosse I'm like what yeah, I didn't know they played that in Iowa one of his buddies is like hey We need a goalie for this tournament because we don't have enough people would you like to do it? He goes yeah I go Cooper have you ever seen that do you even know what lacrosse is?
00:03:59
Have you ever seen it? He's like no But goalie I have to go how hard can it be? I'm like goalie in lacrosse I'm like think you don't I go you need to watch a video of it because they barely wear The ball is and they just whip it at you. It's just a mask Isn't it is a mask and then they do wear like at least in the youth the goalie They have some pads, but not a lot. Because then it's like pride, you know, tough guys. Oh, fuck. And so he would do it. And I was like, the first one when they threw it at him, he's like, I didn't know it was going to be like that. I'm like, yeah. Like, you signed up.
00:04:30
Yeah, they threw it kind of hard. By the way, it's a tournament that you're here all weekend doing. But he ended up loving it and doing it. But this year, he's not going to do lacrosse because it overlaps with baseball. And baseball is his absolute favorite thing to do. That's his favorite sport. I thought oh I thought he liked football more well he that's up there too yeah I mean I should say whatever sport he's in but truly if you ask him baseball he really likes to play and so so he's always been into that but anyways hey at least he at least he picks a really expensive travel ball sport yeah yeah thanks a lot yeah those videos are no lie you know I mean but um we did some fundraising this year so it should be good for it was good I was gonna say like that stuff We just went to a friend's in Davenport.
00:05:13
Their daughters, two of them, are in traveling softball. Yeah. They have to do these giant funders every year. It's the only way they can afford it. Yeah. I mean, everyone in it. And they raised thousands of dollars. Yeah. And it still was like a drop in the bucket. Well, I mean, you wouldn't believe it. Just those tournaments to get in. Like, I mean, it's a racket. I mean, it really is because it's $700 to get in one of those tournaments. Jesus. So when you're playing in that many tournaments, you add that up for the teams over the years. because you know i coach and at first i was like who's making all this money right it is the tournaments it really is like i mean most coaches out there they're trying to keep it as cheap as possible but that's just what it costs to get the tournament and then you got to pay every um you know i mean you got to pay every um to do it you know i mean and then um well and then every field it's hard to find fields you have to rent those you have to do this so there is all these costs that like kind of sneak up on you but it is this is why it's kind of a racket this is why I had a vasectomy I was tired I can't pay for all this stuff hey but I got you a gift you got me a gift why because you like booze I like booze and I have really enjoyed I've really enjoyed I'm glad that you're doing this and so I thought you know what I'm gonna pick this up and get it for you but I just realized my swimsuit's in there for, you know, sorry.
00:06:36
That's not the wrapping. Oh, yeah. I forgot my swimsuit. Oh, there you go. You guys want to see my skibbies. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So. Oh, I'm scared. Because this isn't Crown Royal. It's not Crown Royal. I know it's not. Oh, damn. Son of a bitch. Did you know about this? You're a fucking asshole. Jesus Christ, man. Come on. It just feels right. I mean, like, are we going to? I'm mad at myself, and let me tell you why. I pulled out the Crown Royal bag, and I go, this is just a single bottle. It's not Crown Royal. And it still didn't occur to me that it was ice. And I went, I thought he would bring whiskey, honestly.
00:07:11
This isn't whiskey. I still didn't think about the fact that it could be an ice. So I only have myself to blame. You really do, because I thought the whole – I'm like, how can I cover this even more that this is not going to hit him? But anyways, dude. You could have at least warmed it up. I'm going to total wreck on camera. It's actually been – yeah. I mean, I bought it earlier this afternoon. I guess it was in my car. Yeah. Well, we have a podcast first. Cheers, everybody. To good friends. Yes. Come on. It's all good. So, the ice way. Mike is the king of icing people, so don't feel bad about this.
00:07:44
But it is impressive because that is cold, ladies and gentlemen. That is. It's cold. It's going to burn. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So. That's brisk, baby. Yes. I think that's what they said on the Twisted Tea stuff, right? But it does lead to something else. So. All right. Now, I don't want another one. No. But I never going to accept that. i bought it for a reason okay we're playing two person flippy all right so i saw this thing where coors light yeah and whatever the ice is mixed together oh makes a good with this yeah makes a good one so we're gonna give it a shot so is this one of those i see these on tick tock that's like that's where i got it from this and this it tastes like chocolate milk that's where i got it from i don't really remember what he said it tastes like but he said it was pretty good well i hate to break you but i drank the ice so we're screwed and i brought more apologies in advance for the coughing i'm getting over something yeah but everybody is now i know that's what i figure so yeah the last track still yeah i know yeah but anyone in the midwest is gonna be like no i feel right at home listening to this i don't know the exact proportions but you know but it feels like uh do you remember what they said this is supposed to taste like i do not so we can just drink it and he said it was good yeah well i want eric to try my first since i'm getting over something and then he can give us maybe give a little stir i don't like i don't know if you can but don't stick your dick in my drink but we did throw a first thoughts does it does it taste like anything you can name
00:09:18
No, but it's not bad, actually. Okay. We're just sipping it, right? Like, we're just trying it? No, the guy that I saw, he sent it down. So I figured. He sent the whole thing? The whole thing. So you ice me, and then you pour me a full drink and say I can try it. It's how much you mean to me. I just need you to know that I am. It's just a special thing. Shaun's taking me home tonight. Cheers.
00:09:48
I'd like to say to you in advance I gulped really loud So I apologize for how that probably sounded That's not bad It's not bad It doesn't taste like Anything I can think of the name of it You know It's not like I can be like Oh that tastes like this that you can go buy But it wasn't bad It's called a Smirnoff Rocket That's it, yeah Or a Duke's of Hazzard cocktail Duke's of Hazzard Those are two very different names Okay, okay Smirnoff Rocket It's supposed to be two thirds core white, one third. Okay. We went a little heavier on the ice. This was the funny part where I started laughing. Some say it's very fizzy.
00:10:29
Some say it smells like a dye bar. That's why I like it so much. There you go. That's something we should talk about. Like we, I, what? Some say it tastes like brown sugar and Marlboro cigarettes. That's my mom. Oh my God. Oh, my God. You shout out to it. So, I mean, obviously it had to happen, you know, like somebody is like a kegger, right? And someone had Coors and someone just walked by like a different port in there. I mean, and that's the thing, too. It's like people don't buy ice for fun anymore. At least not, especially not the original. But like back in the day, like we had a roommate back in the day.
00:11:05
That's all he drank. He didn't like beer. He only drank original Smirnoff ice. I have no idea how he could drink six of those back to back. I mean, you just had two. Yeah, I'm well aware. I'm holding it in right now, so don't blow up this microphone right here. You did good. It's not my first time. Thinking about you. Yeah, it's not my first rodeo. So you will know I did – I'm on it for the TikToks, and I would hope that we're going to try a little something different every time. Okay, yeah. Yeah, I've seen – there was a guy I followed on there. There was one I really wanted to try, and now I'm trying to remember what it was.
00:11:38
Well, this guy is from Iowa. Like, he's – I don't – yeah. You know what? I can't do better about getting a shout-out and getting his name, but he's always drinking out of like an Iowa State cup or whatever. Oh, really? Yeah, so not exactly our same kind of guy, but you know. And obviously, he's always got awesome shirts on too. Really? Yeah. So I, okay, there's so many things in my head I want to talk about now. Okay, the dive bar thing. I opened it up, guys. I know, I know. I opened it up. This is the problem with my brain. And he was in his shell. If you just wasn't feeling it, you just got to get a couple of lices down, and then here we go.
00:12:09
Get a couple anything in me. Here we go. Yeah, I'll get going. No, I just like I love dive bars. They're my favorite thing like growing up. I know I grew up in a bar That's not the way to raise your kids But I did that's how I came up and my kids aren't raised like that and but I had a boy. I know. Look at you. Growth. Right. Yeah. Yeah, but I I mean It was always small bars, you know the real dusky kind of ones. Yeah back then they could smoke in them I don't I don't miss that. You know what I mean? Where it's like you smelled it in your clothes for a week But I do miss like smoking being totally acceptable though. There was something about it, right?
00:12:44
It's nostalgia now. Yeah, like if we go into a casino and there's still someone can you smell it? You're like, oh grandma and bingo Yeah, yeah, it's weird but but recently I went to a new place here in town And it used to be kind of a crappy little bar and like they just flipped it. It's still tiny It's a super cool dive bar and I'm like that's what I love. You know, you dartboards a couple you know pool tables one bartender no food yeah you know you bring your own or they have three popcorn yeah that's how you know it's a real just you know hole in the wall well and their beer is like 325 you know I mean it's like fine you know I mean it not yeah I mean and now now they have to keep up with everything so there all the seltzers and all but at the end of the day Like it pretty basic you know Yeah I felt kind of bad We were playing darts and when we play a one if someone has a bad round and they throw under 10 They have to buy around the shots, right? Yes, and of course I was the first one to do it so I had to go up and buy around the shots and She's she the bartender was like seem mad about that. Why are you so mad about buying shots ago?
00:13:45
I threw under 10 and she goes. Oh, you deserve to buy shots this lady was like 70 and i was like fuck you grandma but i was like she's right that's what you get to the dive bar like somebody's gonna keep it on yeah i want someone to rib me a little i want you know it's like that's what i miss about bars you know i love going to the newer ones and all that stuff but i mean if i had a bar like that was my bar and i would go there all the time it would just be a hole in the wall yeah so eric and i kicked it a couple weeks ago at a couple dive bars and where i just missed you you were you already left you oh yeah yeah and so when we were out for that and so um i didn't get down there until later but that was good time you know nothing like a five dollar margarita right that pre-made yeah yeah yeah and then but yeah same thing like you get your tab and it's like oh this is 40 bucks for the two of us and we've been down here well this is great you know i mean as opposed to monstrous tabs i normally walk out with well and granted granted prices of everything have gone up like goddamn eggs but like i mean i remember back in the day my old brother-in-law like he lived in chicago and he was used to just paying his tabs there he came here we went to a piano lounge and i think you were there that night and we drank all night and then he got his tab he had bought multiple rounds for people and he's like this is it he forgot what it's like to drink in like a small town yeah and he's like more shots you know he's like this isn't 150 yeah we're not there yet i was expending i was planning on spending them more than this yeah we call those the good old days but yeah and then you said how like uh
00:15:17
who did you say had a cool shirt on oh the guy who made the drink yeah and i saw this thing popped up the other day and i love like bar shirts and it was called like dive bar tees or something like that and it's a subscription and they send you a different dive bar shirt every month okay i think i'm gonna sign up for it that's i'm surprised that you haven't signed up for that already i just surprised i just saw it i'm surprised you even thought about it though like I know. I should have been the creator of it. I wish I would have found that for you for, like, Christmas. They'd be the perfect gift.
00:15:45
It would be the perfect gift for you. And it literally is the gift that keeps on giving. Because when I see the t-shirts that this guy's wearing, I'm like, I think about you all the time. You were Logan. You were Logan. Because Logan likes all those hot mom shirts and stuff like that. That's true. He's got all the ones on there. My kid has a lot of inappropriate shirts. I mean, they're not that bad. But, yeah, he has a lot of I Love Milfs. What's the other one he has? I think he has a Gilf Hunter one, too. Leland got in that though. Do you remember? God, what were those t-shirts? Don't bully me, I'll come.
00:16:18
No. Sorry, Nick's son Dylan has that one. And I was like, I really like that shirt. Oh, man. Sorry, guys. No, what was like your big, you know, the big Johnson t-shirts or whatever those were, the golf, like whatever. remember you know I'm talking about what there was like a brand name cuz yes one was a poker in the front liquor in the rear yeah there's something like those are those yeah Big Johnson's golf never lose your ball in the woods or something like that okay maybe that's what it's all big now everyone makes them so they probably just went that business is like fuck are they really so I remember being with my cousin and we got interviewed we were out like at best buy like the old school best buy before they built the you know the one that is now that we thought was like the coolest thing but the original one that was like you know um and i don't remember what they the news was there or whatever we're getting out and they asked to interview us and we answered their question we're all excited to be on the news and we turn on the news and we didn't make the news because of your We're sitting there like because you have a big Johnson t-shirt That's probably why they didn't put us on the news. So that could have been famous. Yeah, that's where it all you know, that's sort of all See how just because of this used to be cool. I Used to be so cool. The news could put me on
00:17:48
That's when you lost me I know you were you were that close to hold on you just You let them go so it does make me think are those shirts still cool? Those shirts are probably worth a lot of money now like those that's okay That's another weird thing too is like all that vintage shit We were and we just threw it out because I was like no one wears this and it's ugly Now people go to Goodwill and they buy those for $3 and then they sell them in a store for like 30 bucks And people pay for them and I'm like yeah, I don't want to do that We really miss the bus on that stuff, huh? We miss the bus on a lot of things.
00:18:22
Like, imagine if we just kept, like, I don't know, five He-Men in the box. Right. We'd be good. Who does that, though? Psychos. Yeah. Yeah. Or really lazy people who put them away and just forgot they had them. I saw a story the other day about... Like, somebody who had an awesome grandma that just bought you so much you couldn't even open them up. Close. This mom had got her son a toy when he was, like, five. It was, like, 1985 or something like that. and she had put it somewhere where it fell behind, and then there just happened to be a hole in the wall, and then they plastered the wall, and it literally got put away.
00:18:56
So then they're demoing her house six months ago and redoing things, and they find it still wrapped in the original Mickey Mouse wrapping paper. And she opened it up, and it was the brand new set of 10 Matchbox cars from that year. And they looked it up, and it was worth $950. Oh, my God. Yeah, which honestly I kind of thought it would be more because it was I mean we're talking Christine condition. Yeah, so but yeah I was like that's kind of cool. You know what I mean? Makes me think like Christmas vacation when he reaches there. Exactly That's the first thing I thought of. I was like Nostalgia. Oh man. Yeah. Speaking of that I on social media I Get there's these tick tocks or whatever where these guys are racing matchbox cars like literally it's a track they just the two cars race I could watch it for hours is this just like they drop a matchbox or is this where they had the gun thing no literally there's on there it's just a track set up and they let them both go at the same time and they go down the track and go all this different ways and well it has to be a short race then right no good what really so must be like oh no no no no but this one no this is a straight up you take two Hot Wheels and you build a track that goes like all around right and you start it. Yeah it's Pinewood Derby I remember that from Boy Scout. Yeah. We used to do Orange Track racing and it was Hot Wheels. Oh Orange Track yeah. But like you raced them. You were racing four cars against each other. To see who would win. But with this one like they start with their own track right and then it goes to a wide track where they're both on the same one. So then the whole thing is that they're sliding into each other and then you never know which one's gonna win. But I will sit there.
00:20:41
Ashley saw me the other night. She was like, I mean, you would have thought that she caught me watching. She's like, what are you doing? I'd rather be watching porn. I knew I was embarrassed right now. I'm like, yeah, you seriously? I'm like, I can't stop watching. Which car is going to win the race? You know what I mean? It's so, but I'm like, I love it. Go look up hookers like a normal husband. But I loved Matchbox cars when I was little. Yeah. I had to track. I had the whole thing. That was my job. I was never a big He-Man. I was never really. I was into Ninja Turtles. But yeah, I was never like a collector like I was really never did you get you get any toys like my My cousin Ben and Nicholas They always had the best shit because Ben would always collect the good guys and Nicholas always collect bad guys That's smart. So like in he-man in he-man they had both castles. Oh, wow, and they have everything You know, I mean, yeah, they had so they had he-man's and then they had Skeletor's place and they had all the guys and then they did the same thing for GI Joe's they had the good guys and bad guys and they did the same thing like did they would am this or what or did it well I think they're just close enough in age you know I mean Ben was like I want well then yeah no Ben was always the good guys and then I think Nicholas just went I mean actually like his brother that's funny though cuz I can't imagine Nicholas being a bad guy somebody you always collect the back always always you always collect the bad guys and so he really they had the coolest stuff like that because they would have bull sides of everything yeah i mean of what was going on and they had kids these days forget like that was the shit like we didn't there was no technology so no you didn't make your own technology with
00:22:15
these people oh i was into uh wrestlers for like a few years i remember that because i had the ring and like i remember for hours just being like boom boom like and i don't know why that was fun but then you think back you're like well that's all you have that's pretty fucking fun so um gi joe Yeah. Did you know anybody with the aircraft carrier? No. Any one person? One? Yeah. How rich was his family? Mike Brims had the aircraft carrier. Oh, I believe that. And he had, like, every GI Joe. Man, we would go over to his house. Stop, Mike. In case you ever see this. Yeah, whatever. We would play for hours.
00:22:51
Like, literally. It was the coolest thing. Like, because he had so many stuff. And then the aircraft carrier. Yeah, it was so big. It was amazing. Yeah. Like the coolest thing I had was the turtle the van thing, but it was the big one where like the sides came out Yeah, it was their version of that But it was not anything like the never had the aircraft carrier was the end-all be-all the only thing close that I can think of where it was like the mecca of toys was the Lego collectors who had the Millennium Millennium Falcon Not a big Star Wars. So That's interesting though like because Legos when I was growing up they weren't anything like they are now No, like it was all shitty pieces. Yeah, and no one really ever the other like didn't care about and now Yeah, because you couldn't really You had to be really creative to come up with and none of us were it wasn't like a crayons and shit Yeah, it isn't like it is now and I remember being like First time when the kids wanted like a Lego set and I'm like, I was picking up nice not got a few Lego sets sound good and I want to go I'm like Like, the price?
00:23:55
Yeah. It's fucking insane. They are insane. Yeah. And it's only getting worse. And it's like, I want the Harry Potter castle. I'm like, cool. Let me take a second mortgage on the house because it's $1,400 or whatever. So it's very important. I feel like I got to say this. I am not as cheap as I sound on here because I do. None of us are. Like, the price is not a lot. And I spend a lot of money on a lot of things. But I do see. I mean, people have to, like, listen to this and be like, good God. Do you want to hear something bad? Get over it, dude. This was even before, like, everyone's talking about egg prices and stuff now.
00:24:22
This was over a year ago, maybe two. Me and an 80-year-old woman had a 15-minute conversation. Did I talk about this on the last podcast? I don't think so. We had a 15-minute conversation in the middle of Hy-Vee over the price of nuts. Oh, you did. Did I talk about it? You did talk about that. Yeah, I'm going to shut up. But that's the shit that makes me realize I'm old. I always feel like I'm fine, and then I'm like, I am bitching about costs and everything all the time. And I used to make fun of people for doing that. But at a certain point, this has to stop. Well, I just, I think, yeah, I don't know.
00:24:56
It's crazy. I just, I mean, I guess, but shit's gotten way cooler, too. You know what I mean? At the same time, like, the Legos that we used to get socked, and now when the kids would get it, I'm like, this is awesome. Can I be honest? I fucking love Legos now. Like, if the kids were to get a set, they don't because they're older now and don't care. But, like, I enjoy the fuck out of it. Like, I've never cared about puzzles. I'm just not a puzzle guy. I can do one, but it doesn't fill my cup, if you will. But Legos, I will sit there, and I'm like, I've got it. And I'm like, you know, for four hours.
00:25:26
Back off. And I'm good to go. Yeah. Well, that was the thing, because then the kids would get it when they were younger, and then they were never old enough to do it. So then I felt like I was always the one putting it together anyways. And I've never. But then you get a little, like, stop. You're going to mess it up. Like, I'm on this. Don't open that. Go on. Pay attention. Don't. Because the pieces are numbered. Screw around. You don't need to. You don't need to take this seriously. Go to your room. Yeah, and then you sit there and you're like god what happened to me? So that's the thing that like that's how I am with the Dishwasher and you used to be cool the dishwasher. I don't I don't let people load the dishwasher only I get to move the dishwasher You're out of your mind. I hate unloading the dishwasher I will never do that. That is the kids job, but they are not allowed to load the dishwasher You're out of your mind. You're out. Why who gives I also don't Like Kara doing it. She's terrible. I love you Kara. I guess it You know what though? It doesn't matter. It's the best thing that ever happened to Kara.
00:26:17
This is the best thing that ever happened. Oh yeah, I guarantee she's not actually. Oh no, I can't do dishes and walks away. And I'm like, yeah, I've got this. You know what I mean? Excuse me. So what is it that you don't like? Here's the thing. The water sprays typically from the bottom or both, but like usually always at least the bottom, right? And then people come in and take a fucking pot and they put it on the bottom face down. Where do you think all the water's going? It's cleaning the fuck out of the pot and nothing else. See, I disagree. So all your glasses are full of dirt. Are they dirty?
00:26:47
I don know but it makes me feel like they are It makes you think that they are I think that they smarter than that Dude I check I give it a little spinny before I start make sure it not clicking anything like oh yeah dude I I don I I never thought of myself as being like obsessive compulsive it's only loading it I don't know where it came from maybe it's cuz I was poor growing up we didn't have a dishwasher so I'm like I'm gonna make sure this runs like a fucking like a dream engine yeah yeah I don't know I can't stand it or does it scare you it scares me you're gonna do it wrong. Maybe that's what it is. They're going to take it away from you. Like, you don't deserve it.
00:27:19
They're going to take it away. I hate hand washing dishes. I don't know. That's the thing. I won't put something in there because it's too big, so I hand wash it. Sure. Whereas most people, like, not to name names, Kara, she will just put the biggest of items in there, and she's like, well, I'm going to run it. It's got three massive things. I'm like, uh-uh. No. Like, we just wash those. Then we can put a whole load of stuff in there. So, jeez. Yeah. Look, it's my one, like, I'm very weird when it comes to that. I can't think of another thing. I don't know. I guess, boy, that's a... Because to me, I'm like, I don't care.
00:27:50
Let the kids load it and unload it. And if it's not perfect, fine. Then they'll redo it. You know what I mean? But I feel like it gets clean, though. When they load it, do they start it? No. But that's because I'm more worried about how much you're going to put. Like, I'm more worried about that. Sure. But when you go to start it, no matter how it looks, you just run the fucking thing. You don't care. So I don't, but Ashley definitely looks at it. But I'm more of like, I don't give a shit. You just run it no matter what. Yeah, just run it. Yeah. When Ashley looks at it, do you think she moves anything?
00:28:21
I know she moves it. And then she gets really pissed. Okay. Well, we're going to have to have a special guest on sometimes. So we can be like, these fucking psychos out here just running it like this. Yeah, but she'll be like, this is, you know. And she'll say the same thing. It doesn't get clean. And then all the times I'm like, I've ran it. I've never seen a speck on it. Yeah, it gets clean. And you're right, by the way. I want to throw that out there. I know you're right. But also, it depends on the dishwasher, right? Like, if you have one from the 80s, I guarantee it's not all going to be clean.
00:28:48
But no one probably has those anymore because they don't last. Do you rinse everything? Oh, like a fucking psycho. Oh, that's another thing. You guys just put it in there like chunky. Oh, I'm going to throw up. You guys are sad. No, I rinse, but I don't. Here's how much of a water waster I am. And I know, like, this is the bad side of it. I mean, you basically clean the dish. Yes. And then you run it. When my dishes go in there, they're clean. Not with soap, but there's not a speck of fucking food on anything. God, how do you do that? I hate that. You're like me? Thank God. Same way. Okay, because I was starting to sound like a real bad psycho.
00:29:21
Well, I definitely don't have chunks because I just don't want to get jammed in the... Well, yeah. Because then I know I'm just going to have to fix that. I don't want to pull a glass on and have like a clean chunk of food on it. I'm like, ew. Yeah, no, I don't do that. I'm not that kind of psycho, but I am not like... It goes rinse and it's like... I wish you wouldn't have brought that up, though. because now I sound even worse. It's like, so wait, hold on. Let me get this straight. Nothing's on them, but the water has to make sure it touches it 100% of the time. I'm like, absolutely. And you're not really that big of a germ guy, are you?
00:29:50
Yeah, my hands. So like, I mean, anyone can tell you. Like, I don't like my hands being dirty. Like, I would be a shit mechanic. Well, dirty, sure. Yeah, I can't like, yeah. And that's what sucked having kids when they were young. Like, it's spaghetti night, and they're just fucking, and I was like, like, I. So I remember Ashley telling me that that drove me crazy. And I'm like. Drives me crazy. That you said that you get anxiety from it. And I was like, I couldn't put my finger on it. Because I would hate when they would rub it on it. And it would drive me nuts. And then when I found out that you told Ashley that you get anxiety.
00:30:22
I'm like, that's what I have with it. Because you see it coming. And you can't stop. And they just still do it. But you can't. Don't give it to them. Or like, I'll feed you. I know it's stupid. Right? I get that. But like Logan's first birthday. Like the whole smash cake. I was like, oh, it's so cute. can we clean him up now? Like, there's pictures of me, like, cleaning his hands religiously. But here's the thing, Adam always makes fun of me because I don't like cleaning pumpkins, like, with my hands because of the fucking feeling of the guts. My kids hate it, too. I've ruined them. Like, they're, like, washing their hands all the time.
00:30:50
I'm like, and I'm not a germaphobe. It's just that. I just don't like It's more of a texture thing or, like, a feeling thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're not necessarily worried about germs. You just don't like the fun of the stuff. Yeah, like if you tell me to go run one of those mud rudder 5Ks or whatever, I'll do that. I don't care if I'm dirty, but I don't want my hands covered in shit for long, if that makes sense. I get that. Yeah. Yeah. It is a texture thing, too, though. We went to Farm Aid in Alpine Valley one year, which was awesome, by the way, and it rained the entire day of the concert.
00:31:22
I mean, we had ponchos and stuff like that, but when I mean it all day, there wasn't a dry surface you could touch. Right, right. I kept making jokes like I'm gonna get fucking trench foot like I'm in Vietnam like just everything was wet, dude So my hands are like pruney right two hours in then go eight hours forward and I'm like Like I just can't touch anything like you couldn't get dry to save your life Like the the it was the best thing was going to the porta potty and just like not having it on you for a split second So you just you said the circumference dude, it was awful. I just it sucked. So yeah, I have a thing in my hands for sure what's your weird thing why you always get out when we're boating too is that why you're always in the damn boat I'm not always in the boat but I also can't be in the water I can't pee floating I can't pee when my feet aren't touching something it's weird man I do I don't like it I think I'm not happy about these things if there was a cheat code I'd enter it right now you know what I mean floating in the lake drinking a beer and peeing when you want to might be one of my best God-given things.
00:32:25
Yeah. I mean, I get it. I really do. You guys, we found a happy medium. I just walked over to where I could touch or I stood on a floaty once, but I'll always get it done. I stood on a ladder a little bit. That's what it was. That's the cheat code. There you go. I don't know. It's weird. I don't know. I mean, I got plenty of weird things. But thank you for having a boat. I like that boat. Yeah, that's fun for all of us. It really is a good time.
00:32:49
But no, I just... Do you ever forget that you have a weird thing until someone brings it up? Yeah, I'm sure I have plenty of them. Like, oh, yeah, that's definitely mine. I'll tell you what. This week I'll call Ashley, and then I'll have plenty to talk about next week. Oh, God.
00:33:03
That's her name. She wanted to come. She's like, people. Did you really? Yeah. Oh, that's ballsy. After what I said last week about, you know, you being – Yeah. Hanging out with us when you guys were broken up 25 years ago.
00:33:19
We're over it. Foot in mouth. Clearly, yeah. A couple kids later, everything's good to go. Isn't that funny? I didn't even think, though. Oh, it's on now. Oh, the hockey game, right? Canada, USA. Yes. So did you watch the first game? No, I haven't watched any of this stuff because... I don't watch hockey. I don't really even fully understand hockey. I love it when I watch it, but it's not football where it's like I have to watch it. Must see TV for you, yes. Yes, yes. Or even know when this... I never really know when it's on or anything. I don't either. It basically takes it being like a national event where it's like we're gonna be can I'm like, holy fuck, that's their only sport Why are we writing them? Yeah Um, but the last time they played there was three seconds three fights in the first nine seconds Yeah, so like they were like bing they dropped the puck and three dudes were like fuck this. Yeah, there's these two brothers Their last names I can't pronounce it's like chalk or it's a TCH UK or something like that and and their dad played for team usa and like i guess like some dude beat his ass or something so they were both like oh it's going fucking just for their dad's sake and i think and i'm sorry if i'm wrong about any of this one of them may have played was either born in canada or played for a canada team but they asked him like why aren't you playing for team k he's like i would never play for team canada i was like god damn this guy means business they threw down three i mean it was awesome well every if every hockey game was like that it'd be the most watched sport in the world Well, some hockey games are like that.
00:34:42
Because I remember, I mean, we'll get back to this one. I remember watching the Blackhawks one year win the Stanley Cup. Oh, yeah. And it just so happened, I just turned to it game seven, and it had the coolest ending, and they won, right? And I remember being, like, so jacked up. And, like, some of my friends, and I'm like, I think I just became a hockey fan. Like, I literally just think of it. Now, it was the last game of the season, And so then I never started watching the next year. But I remember being like, I am watching this from now on because this is amazing. Which I have heard, though, playoff hockey is, like, unbelievable.
00:35:18
It is unbelievable. And, like, that's the thing to do. But I've been dying at some of these TikToks that have been out there when they're like, you know, people are, NBA and NFL are taking a knee for the flag. And here's USA hockey fighting their way in other countries. You know what I mean? Just like, let your show, like, punching. dude I saw one the other day and it was like uh NBA they're like can we guys can we try to play a little harder in the all-star game the NFL was like let's play flag football candidates or USA Hawks he's like let's fucking fight everybody right now first three minutes they booed our national anthem so that's the other thing I guess they booed the anthem yeah which was a big part of it but it came out like that was more like of a it wasn't it doesn't matter though right you boo the shit's gonna go well it's all you know whatever the political and everything else We pissed right back.
00:36:05
God damn it. Yeah, but that is pretty funny. Well, I mean. Yeah. Yeah. So, tonight's the final game, though. So, it's like. I mean, is Russia still. Is that still the thing? I don't know. I guess not. Because that's the. You know. Here's what I don't understand about hockey, though. And I know there's seeding and all that stuff. I know this is like a mid-season tournament. This isn't like it's the Olympics, right? This is like. No, this isn't the Olympics. But they're doing it. Yeah. So, they do. But we lost to Sweden. So, like, we beat Canada. But then we lost to Sweden. but we're still in the championship.
00:36:34
So I'm guessing we just had enough points or enough wins. Well, it probably has to do with points or something. And it probably was a tiebreaker where we had beat Canada, so it makes sense. Speak to that. Have you ever seen Four Nations on Netflix? No. Do you ever watch, like, the documentary, like, the sports documentaries, like the receiver and, like, whatever, like, the quarterback stuff? Yeah. So, or, like, F1 or any of the ones like that? I haven't watched F1 stuff. I've heard. I know. I know. It really is. I know. But it is that good. Like, I mean, it really. The golf ones are awesome. But they did one for, it's called Four Nations, and it's rugby.
00:37:09
Oh, no shit. Yeah, and they just came out with season two of it. Oh, I watched that. Maybe it's Five Nations. I sound like a fool right now. But I remember listening to or watching that thing, and it was amazing. You know, it's like a six-episode series. It was great. But the second one's out. I want to watch it again. but now that you say that I wonder if hockey just started this thing or if it's something that's always happened I don't even know I sound like a degenerate but the only reason I even know it's called the Four Nations thing is from betting it just really does god damn we'll save that for another day it gets heavy some days look I'm not betting away my life savings we've talked about this in the first episode I throw down small bets that can win a lot of money like last night I spent 10 I won 80 so it was like that's a good night But then I play off that I don't go like yeah, well, I'm at zero. I have to keep pumping in those hundos like no It's not like that. So still pretty funny. It's pretty fun. Not funny I have not downloaded the apps for that reason don't which I we've talked about Was that you that said some out that said like I think I'm out of it then also they send me a promo and I'm back Use code DraftKings, Shaun Barry.
00:38:28
Yeah, right, right, right, yeah. Yeah, because there's always promos and stuff like that. But, yeah, I mean, it really is, at the end of the day, those companies have to make so much money. Because, like, you see. They have to be just printing money now that it's, like, just that the NFL just leaned into it. Everyone leaned into it. The weird thing is how they still have it, though. Like, I mean, literally, it's different state by state. Like, it's legal here. but in this group i'm in the big money that everyone makes is on esports they bet on people playing nba 2k so it's like the pros yeah but like imagine if like my son's playing fortnite and i'm like hundred down got him like and he loses and i'm like well get the fuck out of the house but you know what i mean i can't believe gaming i can't either because cooper and his buds do it right and they're all in it and he has the whole setup he's got it you know which yep and they're good but the they're amazing right yeah so then he comes up the other day he's like dad can i can i get can i download 2k but i'm like sure you know um and i i get pissed because i get sick of paying for all that stuff so oh yeah he always has to pay me he always has he always has paid me for it so i always bring up money i'm like okay sure you want to do that with it but okay Yep, go for it.
00:39:47
And anyways, so him and his buds have a team together. All of them are their individual player. Wait, what? I didn't even know you could do that. Yeah, so all five of them are a team. And literally they play other people. I didn't know you could do that. So Cooper's like, yeah, so we got a team together, and I'm going to be the power forward. So my guy is seven foot tall and he just dunks on everybody you know So you literally never have to switch players You are that person the entire game Well like for these guys so they so then you do it You can do stuff on your own too It sounds like or whatever But yeah guys then you get to a mode where you all play and you a team and then you find other people and they They'll be running with a squad and you just go you just go at each other like I'm kind like I should have known that Like that makes sense. It was do that now, but I never crossed my mind It's one of those things too. Like when you said it to me, I remember I I feel like when I was a kid we're just playing the games would it be so awesome if we could just be like You know I'm going to play together. Yeah, dude I mean and now they do that like they can do whatever they want. It's just Yeah, I went to I was with TJ and Angie and they're their kids and they have three VR headsets like well I mean he's had it since the jump Since it came out. Yeah, but now he's got like three of the new ones and they have this game What was it called? I can't remember but you literally go out and you take 20 minutes and you set your whole basement to a playing field.
00:41:14
Like map it out. So these walls are actually walls and stuff like that. And you put up little blockades and stuff like that. And then you're literally playing a first person shooter against your friends running around the same area, not running into walls because they're actual walls. So they actually mark the couch so you're not doing it. You're actually not walking. Instead, they'll make it like a bush or a big like water tank or something like that. So you can hide behind. Yep. And then you literally pop out. Like I sniped Griffin from across the living room. Like he popped in a window and was like, boop, took his head off.
00:41:42
And I was like, that is the coolest thing ever. Oh, my God. Yeah. Now, the little kids are assholes. They didn't tell me a bunch of the tricks of the game. So they just came out and stole the magazine out of my gun and ran away. I was like, what the fuck? I couldn't shoot. And by the way, it won't regenerate because they took it. And they're like, we didn't tell Uncle Mike that. I'm like, you little shitheads. Like, yeah. You deserve all that, though. I do deserve all that. Because you would be the first person to pull all that shit, too. To do that stuff, yeah. Yes, but that is awesome. It's awesome.
00:42:08
I mean, the future of gaming is just insane these days. I mean, we played... I was going to say the game I was best at was a computer game that's so old people won't even know it. But we played Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. You couldn't even do split screen. We were all on the same TV. So at one point, we literally would play one-on-one, but we took a sheet and taped it in the middle. And one person would play under the sheet, and the other person would stand over the sheet. That way we couldn't see each other's screens. That was the only way we could come up with doing it. We're not techie. I bet Erik's dying right now Right, I bet there's a way in on this plugged in another TV in another room, but we didn't know how to do that. So But that's on computer It was there a way to do that like if you took a Super Nintendo could you have played in two separate rooms on the same I bet there was.
00:43:03
I thought at least you could... Because we literally did it, and then it was super cool. We were like so proud of ourselves, and we were like, we're probably so stupid. There's probably a way easier way to do this. But there might not have been. I don't know. You know what I mean? Who could afford two or three different consoles? Right, yeah. Or another TV. I mean, I remember the first time I heard that. That wasn't flat screen back then. Right. Yeah, when or now that I work with a gallery work with she's like my son's going over to this You know overnight or whatever and I gotta take his TV and blah blah because they're gonna play They're gonna game all night. I'm like you're taking his television and the like Logan's on Yeah, and thank God now now there's no they just don't well now They just don't go to anybody's houses. They just stay at home and they should just do it You know whatever but that part did get easier than I think about it But even the TVs are so cheap now like oh I got Layla a new one the other day like And a 32 inch TV that weighs one pound and the flat screen on it's like 89 bucks. Yeah, it's insane Yeah, the one I have on my wall is 70 something inches and it was like 890 now It's like 400. Yeah, good like I know it's not like eggs. No, they just go down They're going the other way eggs growing up TVs going down. Yeah, that's just the way it is so So, yeah, I was going to make that trade.
00:44:22
I'm okay with it. Think about it. You said those damn chickens. Dude, don't even get me started. That's such a tangent because I'm so pissed off. Like, I bitch about eggs, and then I sit here, and everyone kind of gives me this look like, and I was like, yeah, I still wish I had chickens. Yeah. I love donning chickens. Just remember. Also, it's not my fault, though. That was the derecho and a fox, but, like, you know what I mean? But, yeah, it is in the plans. Like, I'm hoping this summer to, I'm going to fix up the coop and start from scratch and get some chickens. It sucks, though. The first year you have them, you don't get shit.
00:44:53
You're just babysitting, you know? Yeah, but you always like those little bastards. I do, yeah. I'm weird. I don't know what it is. I never grew up on a farm. You know, I never did any of that. So, like, it was kind of my way to just bring a little bit of it to me. You know, it was like, look at me. Yeah, look at me. I'm a redneck. From Iowa. I'm a farmer, baby. Yeah. I'm a city man. Yeah, that's, well, I don't know. Yeah, nowadays you could be rolling in the Dell here. I know like Our friend Tracy like she has a bunch of chickens and that's like who I would get eggs from and a lot of advice from when I had him and stuff like that. She's got to be rolling in though She probably moved away. Shout out to Tracy. We need some help on some eggs here. We are But you won't be forgotten. Those people are smart and I'm and they should be like now you see like it's like You used to be able to get farm fresh eggs a dozen for like four bucks. Yeah, they're like eight and you're like fuck That's fair. God damn it. They taste better And people who haven't had them go like there's no way it tastes any different.
00:45:48
And I'm like it does. It is so much different. Like there's so much better. Yeah. When you like crack them next to each other you're like, oh, we got poverty eggs. Oh. Poverty eggs. It's like back when there was more and they sent you powdered milk. Like that's the eggs they would send people. Just dull white. Jeez. It was like pieces of shell in the yolk. Oh God. Yeah. You crack one of those farm ones, and you're like, just golden, like, bright orange yolk. You're like, oh, that's a good chicken. That's funny. He's been eating worms and being pet at night. He had a bath this week. You know what I mean?
00:46:23
Taken care of. Taken care of, all right? He's never felt snow. They did live the good life. They did. I know. Yeah, I babied my chickens. Yeah. There was one time, I mean, there was multiple times. The neighborhood knew I had them. And it's legal to have as long as you just can't have a rooster. which is bare i don't want to get woke up at 5 a.m you know what i mean um but the neighbor came running over she's like hey hey and i was like ran over there and she's like your chickens around like yeah and she's like there's a hawk circling and i was like i looked up like oh right as she said that it like swooped down but they saw it and they ran under a tree and it missed then it goes up and it just sits right on the corner of my house on the roof just watching them i'm like trying to scare away like chew throw a rock at it doesn't care i'm like go get get my airsoft gun pretty far uh it wasn't co2 powered so it was kind of weak so it's like took me like nine shots dialing but finally hit it and it's just like took off there you go but yeah i mean they they get taken out all the time so yeah i've heard that they're the dumbest animal known to man right like you yeah if you had a thing spinning with a blade on it they're like what's this like moana that stupid chicken yeah that's really how they are they're that dumb they're that fucking stupid just eating rocks the whole time so they have no survival skills how they've made it this long i have no idea and everyone's like they they come from dinosaurs like well they fucking suck compared to dinosaurs didn't have a chance but still so yeah but i'd be rich right now
00:47:55
you're doing all right i'm gonna get them back i'm gonna get them back kara wants to get a goat i want to get a highland cow like 2 000 pounds but they cuddle really well So I'm thinking about getting one of them. I don't know if they're allowed in the city, but... Maybe you should look for a place outside of the city. I know. That is the goal one of these days. Well, if these goddamn interest rates would come down, Shaun. Yeah, I don't think that's going to happen. Not right now. I don't think so either. One of these days, though. Yeah, I would love to have... Well, it's never going to go back to that free money again.
00:48:28
No. At least not for... That's the thing. Maybe we hope it doesn't, because then fucking shit's... It's not good. That means it's gotten bad. That's what people don't think about. Right. like no the getting's good you're like there's a reason yeah it's not good fucked up we don't want to yeah they're trying to fix it you want I mean that's why we're locked into our house same you go to move it sounds good then you look at your industry like nevermind I'm good I'll stay here for another hundred years just fine isn't that crazy to think like when our parents had houses people don't realize how high the interest rates were my dad told me it was like 20% when when When they got their first loan, because we moved away for, like, just lived in Bettendorf, and then came back here, they bought a house, and the rates were 21%.
00:49:15
So he convinced the person that he was buying the house from to buy it on contract, and then ended up, so he was buying it from the guy on contract, and then essentially got it when rates went down to 18%. Oh, my God. Now it was 18% I'm probably like $50,000. You know, I mean the house is probably that's true Yeah, I mean like they're a lot less. Yeah incomes were less too Yeah, I mean so so relevant to what they're you know, you know what they're making but it has not But it was still way better than like you couldn't do 20% now like it's not No, but I mean 20% on 300,000 right now is like 400,000 you know, it's like Just your run-of-the-mill like it's like but people don't realize and it's so funny because they're like well I'm not buying because it's 7%.
00:50:01
And you're like, it can be so much worse. Now, granted, I get it. There's a reason I'm not moving. My interest rate's great. Well, you have one. I mean, some people don't have it. That's what I mean. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I don't know. It's crazy. Look at all that. There's a grown-up talk right there. That means we're not cool.
00:50:21
But this goes to show, like, as immature and stupid as we are, we have a little bit of grown-up in us. Yeah. Yeah. God, we should have named the podcast that. That wouldn't have been a bad name. That's not a bad name. We could go to interest rates. Write that down because we had some other good ideas. And there is a, guys, we will tell you. Oh, that will be our first sticker we make. There is a great podcast name that we came up with over a year ago. What is it, Shaun? No idea. Yeah, we don't know. We don't know what it was. But neither of us wrote it down because we were like, oh, I won't forget that.

It was too good. It was too good. into the ether it went. If you'd stop icing people, I'm just saying, I remember things better when I don't get iced. I didn't ice you that night, but we were drinking those big-ass beers. We were drinking. That was a get-after at night. That was a fresh drama for you. That was, yeah. Oh, that was a heavy, heavy night. That was our first hangout since me going through my divorce. I'm surprised I even remember that night. That's how deep that night got.
00:51:24
We were drinking those big-ass beers it was a good time though yeah we had a great fucking podcast name we did one day it'll come back to us you know what i like this one a lot this one this one couldn't be more accurate for us yeah i think i mean we're so cool yeah i think so and i have at least one person in my life who thinks it most of the time i think yeah one of my kids depending on the day okay you know i just figure we're gonna keep doing this we're gonna talk about being in our 40s having kids interest rates how much we like Legos how much we like drinking anything from interest rates to getting ice to there's something wrong with us we're right in that teeter totter like one minute we're like the youngest dipshits and then sometimes we're responsible and we know what's going on it's true though I mean Legos to interest rates really is like what in the grand scheme when we talked about making this we were like we're just so all over the map we can't be the only ones we can't be so like we'll just talk about it But I didn't realize how bad it is until that.
00:52:25
That was like literally... You just slide into it and then you slide on it. You know what I mean? You're like king of the jungle. All right, none of this boring shit. Let's drink spices. Right, for sure. For sure. Well, do we want to wrap up for this one? I don't know. You got a wonderful joke here for us? I do. I bet he does. He usually does. The dad joke of the day. All right. For the dad joke of the day. Why do melons have weddings?
00:52:54
I know it. I just thought of it. I've never heard this, but I know it. I'm going to believe you. I'm going to let him say it, but I'll believe you. I'll write it down. I'd believe you if you'd say you got it. They cantaloupe. Yep. Really? It's starting to write it. Yeah. All right. All right. Because literally the first, I went, musselmellon cantaloupe. You cantaloupe.
00:53:16
I'm so proud of myself. You are that old. I know. I know. Dude, my kids hate that. We watch a movie, and I'm like, this happened. Logan's like, can you just shut up and let the movie happen? I'm like, but I like that I figured it out. All right. That leads me to. Cool. We'll talk about next. We'll talk about next. We'll talk about the next episode. I want to talk a little bit about a show that I just watched that I loved.
00:53:39
Stay tuned. Yeah. I'm on back. See you, everyone. Bye, guys.
