Show notes
A Nissan Altima that keeps dying, a mechanic who diagnoses the problem for free, and a question of whether it’s time to trade the car—or risk the infamous CVT transmission failure. Erik, Mike, and Shaun also taste a no-sugar classic margarita, pick their favorite year in a 90s movie bracket, and debate whether *Goodfellas*, *Home Alone*, *Dumb and Dumber*, or *Forrest Gump* takes the crown. Along the way: kids discovering financial responsibility, a son trying to pay with his mom’s credit card, and the fading concert tradition of waving lighters in the air. **We’re Still Cool, Right?** is back with drinks, nostalgia, and plenty of friendly arguments.

00:00:00Welcome to We're Still Cool, Right? The weekly podcast where the conversation flows smoother than top-shelf whiskey. And cool, well, it never really left. Grab a drink and hang out with Erik, Mike, and Shaun while they dive into nostalgia and attempt to answer the age-old question. We're still cool, right?
00:00:30Do do do do do do do tequila Thank you, thank you. I just came up with all on my own I wondered if you were gonna say something about salt cuz I feel like there's just salt everywhere on the table I know and I fucking hate salt, so yeah. There's rocks everywhere. And I hate my hands dirty. Get this shit off the table Yeah, so anyway, but hey we're back for another one. It's our coke habit. It's not really salt I don't like coke I just like the way it smells Super glad that's gonna be part of the Google search history now We won't be in Mexico soon Cheers Always want to get involved in the cartel right in case the company that owns this building is listening. We're not doing anything No, no no no booger sugar today. No don't cancel We do that in the alley before we come in Logan said, you guys, I can't stop you from doing it.
00:01:29Please don't do it inside the house. We're like, okay. If you're going to smoke your meth, go out. In the downtown alley of Cedar Rapids. Where did we get it from? Oh, here we are. Let's talk about legal drugs. Yeah, like tequila. Tequila. Let's get into the strength. The drink of the week. Erik, this is all you. Brought to you by Benz Beverage Depot. B-b-b-b-ben's. 501 7th Ave. Beautiful white building. Gorgeous. God damn. So this week, I was like, I'll come up with it. Getting ready to go to Mexico. Yeah. So I'm like, we got to do a classic margarita. So smart. So we've done a black cherry margarita that Matt made for us in the past. Yeah. Which was really good. Yeah. I wouldn't put that into like, to me, that is there's a million different ways to make a margarita, but I would put that into like the specialty category.
00:02:22a classic is kind of more just your lime rocks you know that type of thing yeah um this one is very classic this is the original recipe of margarita there's no sugar none of the other stuff this is um ounce of lime juice ounce of uh quintra which is orange liqueur you can use like a curacao and then two ounces of tequila also known as the skinny marg right which i felt like fit us very well i i said skinny mark because the skinny mark doesn't have added sugar so like generally a skinny mark doesn't have added sugar i just feel like i've heard that a lot i think that's i'm sure somebody's trademarked that bullshit and it's got some special recipes i don't want to i didn't know about it i was just happy to hear it because i don't usually like margaritas they're too sugary for me and stuff and i shouldn't have a lot of sugar so when you're making this i'm like okay this actually looks good and sounds good so i'm excited to try it because i'm kind of the same way i'm like margaritas are not generally the top of my like whenever else is like we're going out for margs it's normally not my bag but um i don't know what's up with the uh if it's the lime concentrate concentrate for sure because we got it from um our local bar they make it um in-house yeah they make it in-house and it's not like just straight squeezed lime juice so So it kind of had a little bit of like it settled up to the top, but I'm sure it's going to be delicious.
00:03:48Just making sure you guys know, like mix it up and mix it around with the lime. It works out perfect. And then if you don't know the old trick is Erik told us, you don't necessarily salt the whole rim. You just salt one part of it. So then if you want it with salt, you can have it. If you don't, you got to, you know, just drink the part that doesn't have it. I hate the full rim being salted because I don't like the texture but I like basically what I do when I have a margarita is I just push a little bit into the glass it adds the flavor and get a little salt yeah because I'm not a huge salt fan either so I like that it's in one spot I can just grab a little bit and then go on I like to lick it from one end and then take it to the other side you betcha poker in the front I'm sure that's going to be a quote spread the joy baby cheers cheers everybody yeah see that's good see like i would drink those in mexico and i'm not a huge tequila fan and and it really makes good tequila that's way good like the tequila but it's not like overpowering did you say the kind of tequila we used um because it was risk brought it over there no i think i put it in my bag um yeah it's really home no i did it actually is going on the bar cart and i just i had a brain fart um so yeah it's a good matt recommended it um yeah we'll find it yeah i'll post it with the drink video honestly so all right not as if it's clear they sponsor us but
00:05:22matt's the one who recommended this that is delicious i'm not i'm kind of picky about tequila because a lot of it i don't really like same and that's fucking delicious so i go to matt i go so The one that I'm doing calls for Reposado. There's three different kinds of tequila. It's Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo. Reposado is kind of the middle. It's barrel-aged, but it's lighter, whereas Añejo is really barrel-aged. Why didn't you use Jose Cuervo? I was just going to say, for real, when you're out there looking to get your booze, go down there. These guys know what the hell they're talking about, and they can turn it into something that you wouldn't even probably know that is delicious, and it's good price.
00:06:01There's probably 30 different brands of Reposado, though, too. He pointed me to a specific one. He goes, well, there's this one, there's this one, there's the one that Matthew McConaughey makes that's pretty decent. And then he's like, this one's a little more expensive, but I'm buying, so... And we said, that sounds good! But he's not wrong. That's fucking delicious, by the way. In the back room, and then make our decision. I might need to get that from my bar at home, because I am not a tequila fan, but that is fucking delicious. That's really, really, really good. i was but again check them out for real that's you get that different thing down there if you don't know if you're buying something you're not quite sure what you want to spend the money on go down to those guys because they can tell you for sure yeah i was told by someone once don't ever buy any liquor that's owned by a celebrity or like or like pushed by one and i'm like i get it because that is a thing like i remember when proper 12 like came out the irish whiskey from like conor mcgregor i was like i want to try it like was it terrible it's i don't i don't like it at all so i want to try the porosos though which matt i want to try it matt's on a hunt for us because it's just not around here yeah but he said he's going to look in to see if he can get it for us but i really want to try it just because we've always watched yeah listen to their podcasts big fan of those guys but just in general i just want it's vodka too so it's like you can't fuck it up there's not a you know there's you know it's a lot easier there but like i do think that i mean at least based when i've heard bert talk about it on different shows and stuff he's not just promoting it.
00:07:25He's like, I like this. And he drinks Tito's before that. Yeah. Before that, he drinks, and I like Tito's. So then I'm like, okay, that's probably going to line up. But anyways, that's the celebrity stuff. Make yourself one. No, it's really good. Yeah, that's really good. Try it for Margarita. And like I said, go see Ben's for your- Also, don't judge me how fast I drink this. I go on vacation later this week. This is none of your business. We're trying to get ready for Mexico. See, the key is, folks, when you pay for an all-inclusive and you're like us, the only way we're going to get ahead of this motherfucker is what we do at that bar.
00:08:01It's true. And I don't know about you, but my trip is only four days, so I'm coming in fucking hot. I know you're going for like a week. I'm going for six, yeah. I can't drink like that, but I can go hard for four days. Yeah, this trip's going to be free by the time we're done. We are going to drink our weight, and our Czech liver lights will be on. I want Apple Vacations to call me and be like, so. You're not allowed at all. The resort doesn't want you back. We need to make that little deal here. The resort's a little upset. This is like the fat guy at the Chinese restaurant. They come out of the kitchen like, you've been here for an hour.
00:08:34You go now. You eat everything. You can't eat there for four hours. Have vegetables. Yeah, something. It's too much. Okay, so I had a fucking good. I can't remember the heavy guys. I had a little bit of a surprise topic for you guys. It'll be brief, but this was something that Matt and I talked about down at Ben's. and um i am disappointed i'm not going to be able to go to mexico so this was part of that whole conversation so anyway you can come down and i'll get you fucking loaded off so what what matt said to me is he goes you know when you think about you're going to an all-inclusive like i never go to the bar and order a mai tai or a sex on the beach or whatever miami vice yeah that's where it's at but like when you're at an all-inclusive like that's the type of stuff that you want to like you kind of want to like try some things that you haven't tried before right because you can literally you're like i don't like this here somebody else next yep this is shit okay so i wanted to get your thoughts on that but the other thing that i was going to bring up is one of my plans while in mexico was going to be we're getting girl drink drunk one day like only things with fruit and umbrellas hanging out of them okay so it's funny first of all that you're saying this because right before, like a couple hours ago, Nathan sent a TikTok to the group, and it was, or I don't know who he sent it to, but it was like, drink the colors of the rainbow.
00:09:53And like every day this guy is like going from red to fucking blue to purple to orange. And I'm like, dude, when you have gut rot, just mean on a sugar, and obviously I'm diabetic, so I'm not doing that because I want to come back with all my toes and hands and shit. You're not going to lose them this weekend. I know, but it's still a lot. I just feel like after three of them, I'd be like, ugh, I need a better chance of a shark biting it off than you fucking lose it from your diabetes. I think I'll just get my money, but I'll just drink straight whiskey the whole time. It'll be fine. It could go wrong.
00:10:18I'm sure the whiskey would be good, but you drink beer. The problem is the beer is the heavy shit. You know what I mean? You go up, you get beer. That's all you get. Yeah. You know, like it's the Corona heavy or the, you know. They have Ciccate Light. I know that. Oh, do they? Okay. So you got that. What's Ciccate? Not bad. But then that's where I like to sprinkle in the Miami vices, man. Yeah, I have a couple of beers and then one of those Miami vices. Oh, shit. I think that's the move. Yeah. It is the way to go. Sprinkle them in a little bit. Sprinkle them in. Yeah. Or I would say a water, but water down there could kill you.
00:10:51So, you know. But with enough booze, it can't. So stay drunk, my friends. Isn't that what the Dos Equis guy said? That's what they meant. Yeah. Stay drunk, my friends. Stay drunk. That's exactly what he meant when he said it. So, yes. Thank you to Ben's, but we are time to move on. So do you have any drinks that are on the list of, I'm going to have this because it's free. that's always when i just go up there and go i don't know so honestly what does she got that's what's that thing in a pineapple that thing's got a whole fucking banana in it how do you what everyone's so happy you're speaking hey hey you you what is that she's gonna be like oh my god it's this you're like you're my new best friend let's go get one you know what i mean so which actually is one of my favorite part down there is you end up meeting people in the swim up bar yeah you end up like people from all over the place and it can be a ton of fun so hopefully we run into like some cool ass people too i'm sure you know i mean i've ran into some fucking assholes too i ran into one guy one time we were down there and this guy just kept going i can't get drunk man i can't get drunk drunk i'm from colorado and you know we're so elevated like oh just i can't get drunk he was like anybody else that says that fucking barfing the whole you know i mean you're like shut the fuck up you know i mean like people like that but you just knew it was gonna be I'm like, you're fucking drunk right now Right, that's why you won't shut the fuck up I also don't understand, you're in paradise Why are you not just smiling And happy He's from Philly That explains a lot Worst fans ever
00:12:22So I hear Big game tonight for that It might end 9-3 I was going to say A lot of injuries going on Big rivalry for two shitty teams This year I hope I'm wrong. I hope it's a fucking 50 to 47 just monster of a game. I just don't see it happening And all CD Liam. Oh, I would like that a lot. Yes. I Mean I need like the fucking doctors to do well because all my fucking Surgeons right Doctor into my tight end spot and you get a bonus many points and I'm stacked this IR position The fucking Blue Cross Blue Shield does real well Or whatever Dude how'd you get an orthopedic surgeon I was first on the wire The only one fucking deliberate man Alright fellas I wanted to see if I'd kick you off with a teeny Bracket Not a full bracket just a little one but I saw this And I thought it was kind of fucking cool And we are coming into The 90s for our episodes So not quite there yet By the way just real quick that's insane are we like we're like 88 87 86 yeah 89 this one will be 91 holy 90 90 this will be 90 and yeah we're gonna be in 91 92 in no time so just quick shout out to everyone at home because we know i have to hit the buzzword so shout out to everybody who still listens because uh you know most podcasts don't make it past what was it like five three seven i don't know producer logan knows because he knows everything he's the one who told us that we're just throwing out random numbers yeah yeah
00:13:54that's what i do until you answer he's gonna throw it in random yeah that's when he was kissing our ass when he's giving us a sales pitch come over here he's like you guys are doing better than everybody else most people only make it like five podcasts you guys are so awesome and now he's like stroke with words are you done yet so i can just listen listen linda linda listen did it work as long as the check keeps clear and you guys are the greatest podcast ever i love you i don't take check yeah no checks that baby's holding on by a thread anyways with that being said i saw this cool little i did it into kind of a mini bracket and so it was pick three 90s movies to watch and they haven't broke down by year oh i need these really badly yeah i so i'm doing my 100 movie challenge okay i do it every year i'm behind okay how bad are behind i think i'm at 62 oh yeah you're way behind okay so you're gonna get you're gonna get a ton of really good ones i need some actually the way you want a pro tip just look for movies that are like under 70 minutes and just murder it but do you do you count it if you're like have it in the background while you're doing shit or yes he does have to multitask yeah i was gonna say like like every there's no such thing as like that because i would be like otherwise i can't do this so a lot of those when i do that are movies that are like like rom-coms or like really easy watching movies if i need to get invested in it i got to sit down and watch it yeah like you don't want to watch inception while you're doing the dishes or right dealing with your daughter yeah i guess
00:15:28like ashley likes to say that's a nighttime movie or a nighttime show there's stuff that we watch during the day that is like a false turn on she's like oh well we can't that's we watch that at night you know what i mean like you know what i mean like we really like yeah and then there's daytime ones where you know friends what you know whatever you're yep because you're going to get interrupted then there's yeah you got it so anyway i need some recs all right so the way this is broke down is they picked three from each year right so the way i just did it it's it's 1990 and we're going to go through 97 so then we just got we got eight of them that we're going to kind of break down so i'm going to let you know the three from 90 and they're going to compete from the three from 91 and you pick if you had these three which three would you pick okay like which one would you is there one called Erik I Need More Margarita because mine's gone.
00:16:16That's my pick. I knew this was going to happen and I was like, I should make a picture. I'm like, that's probably not a good idea. No, it's not a good idea. So it's not a great idea, but it's kind of always a great idea. Like when you make margaritas, it's generally a picture. So really good. Okay, go ahead. Okay. So 1990. These are pretty good. So Logan, go ahead and write them down because you're getting a list full of movies you need to watch. For the record, I was seven. So Shaun was 49 and Erik was 23. It's some of the best from it. Nobody's listening to your dumb joke.
00:16:49Fuck you. Thank you. All right, 1990. The three movies are Goodfellas, House Party, and Home Alone. House Party is so underappreciated Kid and play Against 1991 Terminator 2 New jack city and boys in the hood oh no those are some bangers against each other so three against three three so i gave you the three so so like figure the three yeah so it's not just a one-on-one battle here you gotta remember as easy you said the boys in the hood are always hard what were the 90s ones like me the 90s were goodfellas House Party and Home Alone and 91 are Terminator 2 New Jack City and Boys in the Hood and what you're doing is picking the team so you get those three versus the other three so that's what it is Mike I'm going to need your vote I'm going to go with the 90 the Home Alone one so you want Goodfellas, House Party, Home Alone I would go with the other one but Terminator 2 wasn't New Jack City and Boys in the Hood I love You didn't like Terminator 2?
00:17:59I like it, but it's not one of my favorite movies I've watched the other two way more than that one I thought for sure you were going to say you didn't know the other two So I have the same answer but I was exactly the opposite on the 91s I'm like T2 carries that one But I love New Jack City and Boys in the Hood are awesome Logan, you can have a vote Well, you probably can't have a vote You're too young for these Yeah, I think the only movie I've seen of those six is Home Alone So my vote would be 1990. So 90 is the moving on. All right. You can have a vote. 92. I'd put it together. You always bitch at me.
00:18:34You mother. When I do it, you're like, you have to vote. I don't care if you made it. You're an asshole. Well, I'd change rules. I get to do that. Honestly, if I had to pick, I would have picked 91. Okay. Even though Goodfellas might be one of my favorite movies of all time, just those three were pretty solid. So, okay. 92. White Men Can't Jump A Few Good Men in Wayne's World verse 93 which is Jurassic Park Missed Out Fire and The Sandlot oh fuck 93 all the way there's too many bangers there I know the other one I mean they're good what was the first movie of the first year sorry I probably watched that movie more than any of the other ones A Few Good Men is fucking amazing showed the kids at the other night it's great um yeah so 92 just for everyone listening is white men can't jump a few good men in wayne world and 93 is jurassic park missed out fire and sandlot uh they're all like i am there but yeah uh if i can throw in one thought i watched a movie today earlier today called the end of oak street came out this year i heard it's good yeah dinosaur movie yeah um and it really makes you realize how great oh was it bad i also watched the new jurassic world rebirth a couple days ago was that the one with scarred johansson i didn't see that i mean the original was so good the original is so good changing of like you could
00:20:11like the thought the plot the yeah everything was like oh my god but were people even really talking about dna before that no right and end of oak street is not a perfect or maybe even great movie but it recaptures a little bit of that magic like the the mystery of jurassic park that's so great so it really made me think back and like i mean i love the og dress yeah it's so good again have we talked about a few good men or wayne's world though i don't want you anyway i love and i'm not knocking a few good men but it's just one of those for me where i watch it once it's It's the rewatchability for me.
00:20:49Yeah. Wayne's World, I watch the shit out of and love. Yeah. All right, Erik, I'm going to have you go first. Okay. You're 93? Yeah. With Jurassic Park? Yeah. With Stoutfire and Sandlot? Yeah. The three of those together just. Damn, I'd be 92, but. No. That's all right. That's okay. That's fucking okay. All right. Let's be honest. The whole point of these is to piss Shaun off, so I say we're killing it. Yeah. I mean. Hey, dude, remember when, what was it? Miracle didn't win? That was awesome. That was awesome. You and Chris Farley here. All right. 1994. Dumb and Dumber. The Lion King and Forrest Gump.
00:21:291995. Friday. Braveheart and Bad Boys. The first one. Dude, I feel like it keeps being like three movies that are like all good but different genres. And then there's another one that's like two kind of hood type movies, which are always good. And then just something random. It's weird. the hell i feel like somebody yeah it's right a little bad boys what's friday's a little yeah friday and bad boys a little bit bad boys is hood bad boys one or yeah it has to be bad boys one yeah yeah all right um fine i'll go first this time yeah good does that sound good so friday so again 95 Friday Braveheart Bad Boys 94 94 is Dumb and Dumber Lion King Forrest Gump 95 Friday Braveheart and Bad Boys I would say Boy this is tough because I think Forrest Gump might be one of the most rewatchable Same Ever and Lion King was probably one of my first Disney movies that I loved That I really liked but I'm going to go 95 with Friday Braveheart and Bad Boys freedom um mike 94 dumb and dumber lion king and forrest gump yeah again rewatchable as well forrest gump carries it 94 also i do also lion king and forrest gump are two of the greatest films of all time they really are yeah like obviously my kids are older i don't watch lion king anymore but i've watched it a hundred times like if you watch a lion king recently
00:23:00it is still one of the most of all time and as you get older have you seen the ai remakes where just like throws that thing yeah it rafiki so i will say this came down to me between dumb and dumber and friday and i was one of the last to see dumb and dumber but it was that they were all my friends thought that i like by the time i saw it i heard every you know i mean it was it was ruined yeah only because i knew everything that they're gonna say and catching friday that i'd completely surprised of what kind of movie that was even going to be. Yeah. That's where I went. And again, for the record, I've seen all three of the 1994 films and I've seen zero of the 1995 films.
00:23:45You've never seen Friday? Never seen Friday. Bad Boys? Never seen Bad Boys. Never seen Braveheart. Okay. I feel like Bad Boys... Three crossed off your list. Once you start Bad Boys, you got two and three. Great. Bad Boys 2 is the greatest one. I'm sorry, but that's my opinion. But even one... I know it's good. One is kind of my favorite. it see i love like you should start with that out of your movies so far that we've seen if there's anything you haven't like you start bad boys just the bad boys the i wanted a porsche 911 just because of his whole line in that i know we're too like this is a shiny black dick and we're too bald Dragging the fuck along.
00:24:24like i i said that so many times so many good lines in this will smith is a a fucking mason in it so just so like him and him and martin lawrence are so good so i would highly encourage that to be the top of your watch here for it all right um 1996 is independence day mission impossible and jerry mcguire verse 97 which is the titanic men in black and goodwill hunting eric i think you're first to kick this off or are we getting logan are you you i'm so sorry will you you read all those one more time just like we did last time for listeners yeah for me 96 yeah independence day mission impossible and jerry mcguire and then 97 is titanic men in black and goodwill hunting yeah i know mine this one's tougher have you seen this like are you do you think you could throw in a vote on this one it's funny this one's like probably been the easiest one for me i've seen all six films okay holy shit we are getting into your that makes sense you kick off your vote then hmm for most of my life i said titanic was my favorite film yeah i don't know if that was actually true or not but i got it to get the ladies just to like huge titanic fan like let people know that i'm a cool intelligent person i did also go see the 3d release of it in theaters and i cried three times so you know i'm yeah real men cry i only cried one time in that
00:25:58movie and that's when like they show the woman floating frozen holding the baby i bawled at that the funniest part of titanic is when the dude falls and hits the propeller laughed at that part funny thing is i remember watching that the first time of him spinning and seeing that and being like very whatever and now it's like all over yeah that's funny now yeah well yeah sorry go ahead logan i think independence day is better than men in black i think titanic is better than mission impossible i think google hunting is better than jr mcquire that's like the thinnest the the goodwill hunting is throwing me off a little yeah it totally is i'd probably go 97 by a hair 97 that was one with goodwill hunting right it was wow by a hair yeah Do you need them right again?
00:26:46No, mine's 96 for sure. Independence Day, Mission Impossible, Jerry Maguire. Yeah, I wasn't a huge Titanic. I know it's a great movie, but it's just like the rewatchability. I'm like, I already knew what happened. Then I went and saw it. I'm like, still know what happened. That's the dumbest Titanic take ever. I'm sorry. You've never watched a movie based on a real event ever. It's not about that. It's just kind of boring. Sorry. I'm all for crying, but I'm like, oh do you want to go be sad and just sit there sullen like no I'm good I mean the whole movie isn't fucking sad it's not it's about love it's alright how about you sir Good Will Hunting I love I think so 96 was Independence Day right 96 Independence Day Mission Impossible Jerry Maguire vs Titanic Men in Black and Good Will Hunting so I have to say 96 because Independence Day was one of my favorite films forever I'm not, the Jerry Maguire thing just kind of, I'm like, eh it's not my favorite Good Will Hunting makes me lean the other way a little bit and, I mean Titanic's a great movie When's the last time you saw Men in Black?
00:28:01It's a great movie too It's a great movie too If I was to pick, like right now you said that was kind of how I made my decision If I was to pick Independence Day or Men in Black I have to pick Independence Day independence day and it's just i that movie was so good to me and i don't know why like i've re-watched it and i'm like there's some cheesy to this but i mean there's some cheesy to this but there's some cheesy to this yeah i will say this is feels like the weakest of the categories so far yeah i would say that it's the one that had me kind of going this way the most because so we got two votes for 96 and one for 97. the mission impossible thing is interesting too because I like Mission Impossible is great, but there are other films in that franchise that are way better now looking back.
00:28:48The ones without Tom Cruise. Oh, just checking. What? Were there any without Tom Cruise? God, I hope so. I don't know. I didn't see all of them. They're still making them, aren't they? Do you want to fight? What is this right now? I want to fight Tom Cruise. I forgot about your Tom Cruise thing. He's trying to pick a fight right now. I forgot about that. I know he listened, so any chance I have to bring it up, I'm going to bring it up. Can't wait until he fucking... Mission Impossible sucks. Why did you vote for 96? For the other movies. You said Jerry Maguire wasn't one of your favorites, so it's really just Independence Day.
00:29:21Here's the most fucked up thing with it. You can't listen to any of his argument, because he's like, I don't want to fucking cry during the Titanic. Jerry Maguire is all about... You fucking had to bawl your eyes out of Jerry Maguire. You know why I love Jerry Maguire? You know why I love Jerry Maguire? The little kid. He's hilarious and cute, and my son looked like him when he was young. That's very Tom Cruise heavy. I just realized that. It is, yeah. He wasn't a douchebag. Yeah, look at you. Look at you voting. You might as well just fucking give Tom Cruise a hug. Yeah, change your vote. That was before we knew he was into Scientology and stuff.
00:29:49All right. That's another discussion. 96 is moving on. What would you vote for? You didn't say anything. Yeah, I'm going to go with that one. I'm going to go with 96 also. Okay. Because he also loves Tom Cruise, like I do. So there is 98, 99. I left those out. We can get to them at a different time. It's just because I want to keep this bracket. This is a quick bracket. This is a quick bracket. This wasn't the most. So 90 verse 93. So it's a Goodfellas, House Party, Home Alone, versus Jurassic Park, Missed Outfire, and Sandlot.
00:30:21Uh. Mike, you're first at the mic here. Say 90 one more time. Goodfellas, House Party, Home Alone, versus Jurassic Park, Missed Outfire, and Sandlot. Oh, I hate to see Sandlot go, but I'm going to go 90. Okay. One for 90. i'm gonna go with the jurassic park one so 93 we're gonna okay logan uh 93 for sure no question shit then it's 90 for me we're gonna take logan out just because no i'm kidding and for sure i've never seen goodfellas so i'm totally not the right person we're not we're not doing call outs it's a short bracket sorry no phone of friends 90s moving on and that's what i voted for uh do how many people after our last like last time we did a bracket episode how many people were like why the did you call me and hang up at like adam later i had a text like is everything okay what's going on because i don't normally call like seven o'clock no it's not okay but then he ended up answering your phone right all right 94 verse 96 94 is dumb and dumber lion king and forrest gump versus independence day mission impossible and jerry mcguire i'll go first here i think i'm up i'm gonna go um 94 dumb and dumber lion king forrest gump i'm the same i'm the same i think logan's probably the same but this is actually really close oh you know both these so yeah you yeah i really love again you lion king feels so weird
00:31:54on this list it does it really does it doesn't feel like any of the other ones because it's Isn't it the only animated movie that's been on any of these? It's the only animated movie. Well, I mean, I guess Sam that's not, but it's kind of, that's also like a- Feel good family movie. Well, it's also a Disney movie, I guess you'd say. Yeah. Miss Doubtfire is a family movie. You know what I mean? Yeah, I guess. It's not, yeah. Dootfire, dear? What? Hello! Yeah, I would be fine with either. I think 96 is a really subtle choice, though. Yeah.
00:32:19We all picked the same one. It doesn't matter. 94, yeah. Yeah. All right, so 90, Goodfellas, House Party, and Home Alone. versus Dumb and Dumber, Lion King, and Forrest Gump for the championship. I just think it's so funny they put House Party on here. Of all the movies in the 90s. Wait, wait, wait. Didn't 96 move forward? No, 94. We all picked 94. Oh, you did? Yeah. So you were the one guy. We just don't want to hear your opinion. You gave a little love to 96. I didn't even really pick. I thought you picked 96. So I was saying, hey, good job, guys. No, 94. Good job, guys.
00:32:50So it's Goodfellas, 1990, Goodfellas, House Party, and Home Alone versus Dumb and Dumber, Lion King, and Forrest Gump. Somebody pick. I'll say 90. 94, that's the Forrest Gump, right? It's Forrest Gump. I get it. I'm sorry. Dumb and Dumber is not a good film. I mean, I enjoy it for the stupid aspect. All right, so I go Goodfellas and Forrest Gump. Those are the ringers. Those are the big dogs. Yeah. Dumb and Dumber, House Park. okay i'm going 1990 we should i can we got 90 and 94 what are you going what are you doing he's going 94. 94 no question yeah again dumb and dumber lion king forrest gump just three of the greatest bangers in their respective fields but you haven't seen goodfellas it is that and that's that's true I believe you.
00:33:50But I get it. I get it. I believe you. And Home Alone is an all-timer. It is. That's what's doing it for me is the Goodfellas and the Home Alone. Home Alones. But nobody has said House Party once. I did. I've actually seen House Party more than probably, not more than Home Alone. Kid and Play? But probably as many times as I seen Goodfellas Probably 20 times From the discussions though I feel like House Party is the weak link out of the six It absolutely is Definitely It very funny that they included that with those two But it's great. They have some vibes to Dumb and Dumber, I feel like, a little bit.
00:34:22Yeah. It's just a little bit different. And that's kind of how I was thinking about it, is I kept trying to pit individual movies against each other. So, like, would I take Forrest Gump or Goodfellas? I can't answer that, so my gut would be Forrest Gump. Yeah. Would I take Lion King or Home Alone? I'd take Lion King. Would I take Dumb and Dumber or House Party? I take Dumb and Dumber. Yeah. It's hard. I can be persuaded since I get the final vote. I'm going to say $95. $95. $94 it is.
00:34:49I feel like, I do feel like in this scenario, one movie can carry the whole fucking thing. It can. Forrest Gump is just going to fucking go. Forrest Gump is that good. I get it. I would say those two, they actually lined up pretty well together. Yeah. I do think we made the right call in those two getting there. Good job for a super quick bracket It was kind of a quick little thing when I saw that So I'm really surprised that you haven't just Made one up so that Miracle could get Into something like a win again Do you like Miracle or House on C Street? What the fuck Is that? It was a real big banger in the 90s trust me I guess I'm picking Miracle because I've never heard of the other one I put in some hard work you dicks What was in 1998-99? Can we talk about that one more?
00:35:32We can talk about it well he's going to save it because he wants to do I'm saying no because well i guess it could because i could i should have done a little different way because i also have like the same bracket for the 80s that i do it like we do a smaller one with that one he definitely hasn't seen i will have a couple off from there'll be the same thing because i can only do eight to make it a small otherwise it gets into a big deal so let's just say so 98 is saving private ryan armageddon and there's something about mary verse 99 which is matrix fight club and the sixth sense oh my god i don't want to talk about that right now i don't because it's going to be that's a long conversation that i will say the later it got in the 90s it was just stacked like as much as there were some really good ones in the beginning when you get into the later 90s it was like all three were good yeah so when i took those two it literally comes down to something something about mary verse six cents yeah because armageddon fight club saving ryan matrix just banger like those four are just so good so to me it comes down to those two so i would be 98 because i would take something about mary over six cents and it's hard because six cents is so good the first watch but then once you know you know i think it's one of those things where i don't even know that i've seen it as when we qualify like how we think about these things most of the time we're thinking about it how much did i enjoy this movie a sense of like re-watchability comedy whatever it is but like that's not taking into account like how good the movie is yeah
00:37:05but i mean because yeah it's not i you could tell me all day long about which one deserves an oscar to that but that's not i'm talking it's like how much did i like and i'm not even saying words i'm just saying like in my in my opinion as far as like cinematography sure the plot the whole like shocking you like m night shamalan movies are fucking great as far as shocking you but they're not my favorite movies all the time right yeah and he's had some stinkers too but you've seen them on fucking social media it's a real stinker anyways no i haven't it's horrible anyways all right do you have a pic oh for the 98 98 98 same private ryan armageddon there's something about mary yeah i have to go with that i i just wanted to make sure i was right in saying the year but The other one was Matrix.
00:37:55Fight Club. It's tough because The Matrix is one of my favorite movies. Fight Club is one of my favorite movies. But Saving Private Ryan, of all those movies, is my favorite movie. Armageddon's my favorite. I love that movie. I would go that year, The Saving Private Ryan. That's what I'm saying. Your analysis, taking it down to those two, is correct. Something about Marion. But that's why I made the point about rewatchability, comedy, all that. I'm going to watch something about Marion. I just wanted to note that I picked a fucking What's his nuts? Something about my What? Who's the main guy? Ben Stiller We know how my feelings about Ben Stiller I don't like him because he does uncomfortable comedy I just don't really like him I don't really like him either But yeah, I get it I don't know I never was that big on that movie It was funny once But I never was like fucking dying to watch again Because it was so funny It's just, yeah, I'm good I picked the same as you I would pick the Armageddon and the Saving Private Ryan does it for me.
00:38:50All right, with that being said, we will have another one of the 80s coming up sometime. We love the 80s. I have it ready to go. For the record, just because I know you're curious, I watched Fight Club last year for the 100 Movie Challenge. Okay. Did you like it? I really liked it. Yeah, I liked it a lot. Yeah. And then Sixth Sense I saw a long time ago. Okay. When I was younger. That's it. I haven't seen that one. You haven't seen Saving Private Ryan? That one shocks me a little bit. Holy shit, dude. I know, guys. There's so many movies on this thing. What have you seen? I saw Fight Club and Sixth Sense.
00:39:20That's it. Oh my god, you got fucking four great movies. I can't believe you haven't seen Armageddon. I don't want to dive into a ton of details, but do you have someplace you're keeping track of your list? Yes, you can follow me on Letterboxd. LSchultz15. I need to look at this and just be like, all of these are must-haves. I'm sure other people are too. Let's do a Patreon episode about it. You can tell me what I've done right. You can tell me what I've done wrong. That would be a really good thing. Well, I don't think you've done anything wrong in the sense of... To me, you've done a lot wrong.
00:39:52But it's more of, to me, there are certain movies... Like, with him, it fucking pisses me off that he hasn't seen Goonies. Like, there are certain movies that need to be in the list. Have you seen Goonies? Oh, yeah. I watched it on forever. I love Goonies. Oh, well. Whatever. All right. Short bracket, done and over. Yeah. Good job, Shaun. Good job. Thank you. Hold on. I do love... That's cool. Do it one more time because I was talking. And that's cool. That's cool. What is that? I don't know. We did it last week, didn't we? No, not that one. We've heard that one before. But our memory sucks. And so if he doesn't use one for like three weeks.
00:40:28Yeah, this is one we did before when it's old. And that's cool. That's cool. I got no idea. Is it Groundhog Day? Big Lebowski. Fuck. Oh, man. And I just texted TJ today. That's cool. And TJ responded, you're making my Lebowski big. So I fucking should have known that. All right. I heard something was kind of pissing you off today, Mike Which thing? I have a couple So I think we've talked about this before But I just, you know We do use this to vent a little bit So I'll make this quick and then I'll get into another one But like, car repairs Yeah, it's a chaps my ass It chaps everybody's ass I have a newer car so I don't ever have any car issues Oh, look at Mr. Fancy Shut the fuck up We all have kids By the way, this is the first time in my life I haven't had car problems All right.
00:41:13So shut up. But we all have kids and teenagers who drive cars. Like we've talked like one or two of your kids had a Nissan Altima like my, like Logan does. Right. And I've been dealing with this issue for like six months. It'll just randomly die. And I'm like, all right, like trying to figure it out. Did the battery in April did the starter a couple months ago, still doing it. I checked the terminals once super loose. So I put a shim on it. And then like, I was like, that should fix it. All these things. And then it fucking died today. And I'm like, or like wouldn't start. And I'm just freaking out.
00:41:40And I have a, I have a guy. We talk call back. And he came out, looked at it, and he's like fucking out there for like an hour looking. He goes, I think I figured it out. It's this IDMP thing that Nissan's only had for like six years. It's like this little computer fuse box doohickey, but like brand new. It's like $500 to $900. And he's like, I can see it not firing through it when I look. He's like, I bet money it's that. And then I Google it. It's all the symptoms of that. And I'm just like, fuck, man. Like, why? I'm so like, that's probably the piece of shit thing that kills the CBT transmissions.
00:42:13them too yeah because they're known for the cvt going out and i'm just like of course we're leaving in a few days and like his car is not starting now and i'm like so so he needs to get that bitch started take it to a car lot right so that's why but that's the thing it's like it drives great other like when it's good looking yeah for a 19 year old kid freshly 19 happy birthday buddy but like it's just one of those things where i'm like i'm so just dealing with it today stressed me out to a point that i haven't been at in so long because i was out there for like two hours like trying to figure this out and then like make it calls i called the you know the scrap yard to see if they have one of those so i could just buy a used one of those modules so i don't spend 900 on it of course they don't have any you can buy them on ebay i'm just like i don't know what to do do i just sell the fucking car it's like that's all it needs but i'm just so this is like the peace of mind of having a newer car it is but at the same time if you could replace that outside then is there much else that's going to go wrong with that car yeah the cbt so like but isn't that that you said that's what does it?
00:43:12I was joking, but who knows? I mean, it could be. I was like half joking. They are known for CVTs, and Jax just went out fucking, like, basically the car was worthless. As soon as it goes out, you're not getting shit for it. They'll give you scrap price, basically. So I just, I'm sitting there, and it's one of those things, and I have the coolest mechanic in the world. Again, the guy, my guy, he came, did it, charged me nothing, by the way. I tried giving him money. He's like, no, dude, I diagnosed it. You're good. obviously I'll call him to fix it when I get the part and stuff but I just fucking hate it I hate it so much and then he gave me a couple places if we wanted to just screw it and get a new car to go he's like I trust these guys they're people I know and it just sucks because when you go to places you always feel like you're going to get fucked but you always do get fucked well right but some places more than others right and so I'm just like I hate that feeling where it's like just because I'm not a fuck like my hobby isn't researching cars and issues like I just have to get fisted left and right when I go places hey I have a guy for that you have a guy for that I found a couple of places that are really good about not fucking you over all right we'll touch base this is why it's important to have a guy like it's just one of those things like I'm not saying you're gonna feel like you didn't take it with yeah without it's gonna feel like you took it with lube instead of with a huge thing you don't have to bite the pillow you're good i mean i get fucked when you buy a car only because you buy something that's so expensive that is just a fucking depreciating asset that you have to have and all it does is
00:44:45cost money so yeah that's why you get fucked i guess you can just get fucked worst by just totally getting ripped off but like yeah that's ultimately what it is and at the same day i don't give a fuck who you are if you're like uh ford suck or chevy's you know everyone's got no one cares there's no you and i could all buy this same car yeah and have three different experiences with the exact same car right off the same lot off the same fucking thing you know i mean it's just like the only thing i'll say at least in my experience in my lifetime especially with all of the children cars that i've dealt with the ones that aren't fucking you over generally speaking this isn't a rule but generally speaking they know too when you're trying to trade them a piece of shit they've already seen all the pieces of shit yeah so sure you're not getting anything out of it because it's the same piece of shit getting turned in yeah but oh another nico like they're not going to give you a bunch for it whereas the people that are fucking you over like the bigger dealerships they'll give you they'll give you five thousand dollars for that piece of shit car because they're making it up on the other side of it well exactly because they just go dump it off so they take it they'll take it so there's a dump it to one of the corner markets yeah and they don't care they're taking they're taking the same thing that the other person would have taken on trade so i guess at the end of the day my chest is like having to deal with your kids cars because it's like you know not like you've progressed out of the piece of shit car oh yeah quote unquote but now you have to deal with it because you're dealing with your sons yeah and because like you know kids don't say piece of just your college car yeah like it's a nice car like if
00:46:16it just started it runs great when it's running it just has this issue where well you it wouldn't even take a jump today it always we could jump it and last it'd go for another two weeks then I just think the thing finally kicked out. I just also, I don't know, we've gone back and forth on this, and I've gone expensive vehicle. I've owned expensive. I've leased. I've done everything. And right now we're dealing with older vehicles that we just don't have a car payment on. We're riding three cars in our driveway with no car payments on. But, yeah, they're all older. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum right now.
00:46:50Everything's fucking new and making payments. I'm not. But I have, but, you know. It is literally pick your poison. Just kick 200,000 miles. You know, it's over 200,000. But we've kept that thing up. You know what I mean? And then my truck and Sophie's car, you know, we're, I don't know. Yeah. I get it. Can you believe my vehicle is the oldest one we have sitting in our house? No, it's not. Yes. Oh, the oldest at your house. Yeah. That is hilarious now. Is it really? Yeah. It's older than all the kids' cars. No, wait. I take that back. No, it's not. Oh, okay. Can we just keep saying that though?
00:47:24The guy that pays for the wall has all this cars Dude if you don't Any parts outside anybody Don't get a garage spot I was wrong on the year Jack and Andre's are a couple years lower But mine has way lower miles Yeah yeah yeah But it just goes to show the dad thing Everybody else gets new shit No it's fine guys I'll go wipe my windows off And defrost my car and wipe all yours off Go get yourself a 91 Avalanche So anyway For the people who I've said that the scariest thing About having kids is what they don't tell you Which is when they learn to drive Like they talk about diapers and how they don't sleep And all this No the worst thing ever is teaching the drive And when they drive and go away and you're like terrified Because you're like I don't know what's happening But with that comes fucking car troubles Because you're not in theory You're not buying them a fucking 2025 vehicle You know what I mean Sophie's car looks like it went through a hailstorm after one one year at that fucking high school yeah just the door dings i'm like what the fuck happened here what happened here what is this you don't fucking know yeah she don't nobody knows no no shit and park at the back of the lot by yourself but i was talking there is no back a lot there because they're all it's just i'll take the school every spot's taken but i've talked to other parents they're like it's the same way with every car have you found any though that like you're like there's no way that's from a fucking door ding or something like something happened like Like the broken phones and watches we were talking about where you're like, bullshit.
00:48:52Tell me what happened. Audrey had one that was like, somebody had to have kicked that if it was anything. Right. Well, yeah. When I'm like, it's on the back bumper, I'm like. Sure. You didn't hit anything. Yeah. Sure. Didn't. But her. I don't know. Yeah. So anyway, enough about that. Their daughters. You'll be like, okay. Okay. I'm not going to let it go for just one second. No, go ahead. Because I think it leads to another thing that I just wanted to ask you about. And this is in the spirit of how we have our conversations at the bar. I'm going to ask the uncomfortable question. So at what point is Logan off the tit?
00:49:25I was just about to say that. So he can just buy his own car. No, so here's the thing. You're 18 and I. I only ask this because I've had the recent thing. Yeah, so he would be. Like, Logan pays all of his own bills. Like, I mean, I don't. Hell yeah, I do. Sorry, it's so weird. Hold on. You're such a big boy. Wouldn't the studio time be free then? You're doing good. I've been off the tit. he's always a little on the tent he's over there going is there an option for me to get back on the tent daddy needs a new car I never even had a tent to be on it sucks but no that's the thing the kid works and he pays all his own bills but I feel bad because he pays all that and he doesn't make a ton of money and so it's like I want to help him where I can which is honestly just trying to find him the cheapest way to get it fixed right so like if i buy the part he'll pay for it you know what i mean but i if i can find a way to get it for 200 not 600 i'm gonna do it well and i think it's also cool because you're using your connections of the people you already know to help him do it so you're you're you're kind of taking that extra step to be like i'm gonna make sure you don't get fucking i think i mean i think we all would do the same thing like we want the best for anybody in our fuck i would find any deal that we could for any of our friends right but the the big thing for me was like that transition of so nathan recently went on to he owns his own car yeah like we had to co-sign but like he owns that payment he's got a bank absolutely he's paying it because you know he's 20 years old he needs to like start establishing credit and yep yeah kind
00:50:56of or just the real world's coming baby ready or not here it comes here and what i found interesting is i thought there was going to be a ton of pushback because he's just a poor younger college student age kid and everything. But he was like, no, I think it'd be good for me to have some more financial responsibility to like, instead of spending money on magic cards I can pay for a car payment And then I was like careful what you wish for you just slide an invoice under his door for rent for the month here student loans here rent you know it's like i'll never forget how excited it was the first time i got to mow the lawn i was so excited like and make money just as a kid like i pushed the lawnmower i i remember that and then by the third time i'm like i don't want to mow the lawn my dad's like go fucking do it yeah yeah you want to do it i felt so cool that i mowed that lawn for the first time and i remember my cousin being like you're gonna regret that and sure enough wasn't but the third time to mow and i'm like this sucks dude it's the whole time you look at your kids and i used to say constantly just like enjoy being a kid yeah they'd ask like adult problems or like what's going on with us or what you make or what you're like don't worry about it just enjoy being a kid and like now my son at 19 sees it and he's like oh and he's like well i want to i want to i like i don't want to get into detail but he has these plans he's like but i don't know if i'm ready and i'm like this is the world now bud like we gotta we gotta figure it out from here and by the way you guys have it way harder than we did so we're expensive so much more expensive so yeah
00:52:27so the i have to give a shout out to jack the other day he so he's not currently employed he's looking for something. On the hunt, baby. Open for work. Anybody listening right now, anybody needs an 18-year-old boy. That's when most kids go, I'm an entrepreneur. I post on social media. What's your latest pan-o-er? Show me how much that podcast pays, buddy.
00:52:53We'll let you know. Let me give you a hint. It ain't much. I just always find it funny. They're like, I'm going to be a video game streamer i'm like cool show me how you do that and you will make thousands of cents yes um hundreds of dollars the other day i was like i it's my last moe of the year i'm gonna do the rider i need somebody else to fucking do the push mowing and yeah trimming and shit and i was like hey do you want to make some money because he doesn't have a lot he's like yeah and i was like i just need you to he's like oh well you ask me to do that sometimes i could i thought you would just like have me do it for free and i'm like i'm offering you money here buddy like and i'm asked i'm gonna tell you i'm gonna hold you to a standard since i'm paying you this time yeah i'm not i'm not getting the push mower out back again you will be getting it back out that's the difference yeah so i ran it this weekend with the window business cooper ran out of money you know i mean like just because he doesn't have an you know i mean and he lives an expensive lifestyle of golf and everything else that he likes to do and a few weeks ago he's like hey we're just gonna run over blah blah is that okay if i just use a credit card because he's got you know has one for less i'm like no and looking on his face was like what do you mean i go me you're telling me no no we have food at home like why you don't need to go over there and he's just like well but you know uh we're just gonna i go i know but you don't have the money to do it and it's fate you know it's like but you have the money i'm like yeah i do
00:54:27Yeah. But I'm not giving it all. No. Adulthood slapped him in the face. You haven't done any of these things. And this is just a very fecal thing. You don't need to just go run to the gas station every 10 minutes. You know what I mean? Kind of a deal. Yeah. So this weekend, I got to hand it to him because he had a game Friday night. And then we were up, and we had to be at a place at 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. And I go, you want to make some money? Because I'm like, I'm getting busy. It's fall now. People are calling me for people that we have that want to get it done before winter and we're busy.
00:55:03He's like, sounds good. I'll be up. And he fucking was up and crushed it. We had six jobs and he crushed it the whole time. That's awesome. Being part of it. I'm like, all right, all right. I restored my faith in him a little bit because I was like, because. Hold on. But now his cast is good. He's like, I'm not going again. Well, last month. Last month I said that. I'm like, hey, we got some stuff to do. Do you want to help? And he's like, no, I'm good. And I'm like, you little fucker. I'm like, what do you mean? And he's like, no, I'm good. And then that's also why he's like, well, can I use some of your money?
00:55:33I'm like, no, fucker. I offered you a chance to make some money and you fucking turned it down. There's no such thing as I have enough money. Yeah. That's what I was like. Keep making it. Shit. Yeah. So anyway, so you put in, yeah, we're out of the way. Same way. I put them in. I'm like, all right, we're doing, let's go. I'm going to say something and it's not, this is not in any way me like saying I made a great decision and, you know, whatever, but it's. I'm so glad that my children have no concept of credit cards, but that was completely accidental. I never like, they understand a debit card and they understand that that is theirs and they have money in there and it's out.
00:56:08To pull it out of the account. But they have no concept of credit cards at this point. Yeah. Logan gets him now, but he doesn't have his own yet. But I like, so it just sparked a thought when you said the credit card. Yeah. I wish that I had like actually instilled that in them, but I'm just glad that it happened by accident. That it's like, well, these don't exist. right they don't he doesn't know if it's a credit card or devil exactly you know like he doesn't know the difference of it yeah you know i mean he just knows he says i have your card and it always has money on it basically because the way we run our finances is we run everything through a credit card paid off everyone you know i mean because we take all the points off of it and it just me buying something or ashley whatever it just doesn't interfere with whatever yeah pulling stuff out of account when we didn't know because everything else is well whatever it's a smart thing we do it We do it on a smart way.
00:56:58It's easy to say I do it that way and not be able to afford your credit card payment every month. Which is what I did when I was 20 years old. When somebody told me it was a good idea, I was like, oh, absolutely we'll do it. I'm like, how the fuck are we in this much debt? Well, because we never paid the card off. When you hear someone say I hate credit cards, they also went through this. Which we did, but we got ourselves out of it, whatever. So literally, we put everything on the card for points because we can afford and we pay it off. It's just easier that way. yeah but also then when the kids one time needed well sophie was driving so we wanted to have a gas card you know i mean and then all of a sudden more and more things that kids go to they don't take cash yeah like they would go to the state they'd go to like the games um and they don't even take it it's card only so it's like well i'm not giving you the credit card that all our like all our stuff runs through because it's like yeah if that if we have to cancel the number then it's just a fucking day full of phone calls that we got to make doing this stuff so i had a shields card so they carry that around you know what i mean so then i was like so they say that can we use a shields card they don't know if it's credit card debit card you know and that sort of thing but then at least keeps it separate but then and then you collide it'll be like there's only seven dollars well but then it's also because they're like oh i didn't do that and i go uh it's you two that use this card, so we know it's one of you two, and those two get together, and they can't lie together.
00:58:24They turn on each other faster than you. It's like Survivor. They're just, like, stabbing each other. Exactly. Fucking Cooper, I was sick that weekend. Fine, I brought my father Gatorade. I knew I shouldn't have did it, but, yeah. I mean, for a while there, he was on the town, like, let's get some apps for the table. You know what I mean? I'm like, Cooper, what the fuck did you order? You know, to him, he's like, Charge it to the game. Yeah. My dad's got this. My dad's got this. You guys put your cards away. My dad's got this. I heard that from one of his friends. We love going with Cooper. He's always getting his appetizer and shit.
00:58:59I'm like, what's also then? I'm like, we're doing the research. I'm like, motherfucker, what are you doing? Little shit. He is. Yeah. That's awesome. I don't know if I told you about this one time. When it costs more for him to go golfing than you and you're buying drinks. You're like, yeah, this is fucking. Him and Ashley are at the gas station We were going to some game Or whatever and her hands were full And They're checking out And you know comes up and she's trying to reach her card With her hands full and he's like I got this mom And he like does this Oh my god She's like it's my fucking credit card And he's just I got this You know what though I bet he felt like a million bucks He's like mom put your car away it's no good here I got this that's amazing did she she had to laugh oh she did and then she told the like to get the guys like look at it and she's like it's my fucking card it's the same thing yeah this is why you gotta do the debit card so that it gets declined one time and he's gonna be like oh oh you got this every kid needs to get declined it's happened before his because i have his set to where it can't go over so he gets declined him out and so he's like what happened i'm like you don't have any fucking money in your account but you do uh-huh and i still do card you're you yeah that's why i do yeah these kids can't win yeah back in our day we just had cash or mostly anyway or we're getting the change jar out go up to the gas station and read movies oh so good the change jar dude so uh
01:00:33our buddy matt like you know does a restaurant and runs that but he like has a huge jar with one of those you can't get into it's like i don't know an old milk jug but it's like 10 it's like a water jug yeah i don't know what it was glass right like a like a oh it's for brewing yeah i was gonna say for brewing i can't kettle whatever anyway car boy car boy thank you but full of dollars and then change and all this stuff and he's like has to use this like tool to get the dollars out right so he's doing it and i was like he's like how much do you think it is and i was like man fuck it all looks like one so i'm like fucking 150 50 bucks maybe and like maybe 50 bucks and change.
01:01:09It was like 700 and something dollars in cash. And then like a couple hundred bucks and change. I'm like, Jesus Christ. Like you forget how much cash adds up to me because I never carry cash anymore. Like, so yeah, back in the day, I told him when he sent it to me, I go, I would have just fucking shattered that thing. Like I do not have the patience to be pulling that shit out. Yeah. Okay. So on that note, back in the day, real quick, I'm going to do just a quick remember when before we end. uh do you guys so i just went to the sugarland concert here in town oh yeah that's thursday sugarland was in town a bunch of people didn't even know they were here i didn't i didn't either yeah um aaron bought tickets a long time ago and then her and audrey were gonna go and then audrey got sick so i went so and i i mean i like sugarland i just wasn't like no it's a thursday thursday usually i played darts it was just happened to be a week that we were off anyway go to the show fucking amazing it was a great show jennifer nettle's great voice if you you know yeah you know i've seen her anyway we're sitting there watching and and they do like this small like acoustic song like in the middle of the room the two of them come and sit and do an acoustic song and everybody brings out their phone lights and are like waving them back and forth and it like started with just a few people and then like the whole place is doing it and i just sat there and i was like how many of these people actually remember when those were lighters yeah and like fucking thumb was on fire i know would a lighter would a lighter be okay still like or
01:02:43would people be like oh that that person's smoking weed or something i don't think they could stop because by the time they got yeah what are they gonna do you know what i mean nobody does lighters anymore but no one has no one smokes i'll tell you what this guy does i bring a lighter on purpose just to get it going. You do not. Oh, I was like, that is hilarious. He pulls out one of those long ones for lighting the grill and he's just like... Aim and flame in the air. Also because I'm older, now I don't burn my finger that way.
01:03:11I bring like the torch I started with my charcoal. Like the butane torch? Yeah, exactly. Get like a plasma lighter. Right. Because everybody smoked, or if you didn't smoke, you at least hung out. Everyone just kind of had a lighter. You just had a lighter. A lighter was a normal thing you left the house with. Yeah. Even if you're not a smoker, a lot of times you had a lighter. Yeah. I've never carried a lighter. Really? Ever? But I believe you. It's just one of those things I never smoked. It was much more prevalent than it is now. Yeah. Because now it's like we get to a house, it's like, anybody got a lighter for the birthday candles?
01:03:46Nope. Fuck, you never had to worry about that anymore. Literally, we just had Logan's birthday, and I have two lighters that we use for candles, and I had to grab both of them because I'm like, and then I have an electric one that recharges, and that's what we had to bring. We wouldn't have had a lighter otherwise But it used to be there was 50% of the room were smokers So somebody had a lighter In your house alone though you had 10 lighters Then we topped those babies off By the way Adam Had I don't know 200 lighters on him At one point we used to have our house parties And anytime someone like He would do this on purpose As people got drunk he'd be like can I borrow your lighter And he would pocket him And it was like a joke to him He pulled out his drawer one time, and I'm like, oh, my God.
01:04:26I was like, that's mine. That's mine. That's mine. That's it. I'm not joking. It was easily over 150 lighters. Such a dick. That's awesome. It was kind of fun. Did he keep them? Yeah. Oh, until now, no. But I guarantee you. I would have liked to have seen the collection. Oh, dude. It was massive. Even when you're like, that's mine. You'd be like, yeah, two bucks. You can have it back. Yeah, exactly. Dickhead. Dickhead. Yeah. It was hilarious. Oh, that was pretty good. Yeah. You're right, though. The phones are such. I text you guys in the moment so I didn't forget I'm sitting here and I'm just like these used to be lighters I will say the lights look way better they are more consistent because you went like this too fast and went out and you're like fuck the lighter is better phones are douchey put your phone away that's true I think it's about time to we're hitting to that time here we need to close this out hit us buddy Give me that dad joke!
01:05:25What do you call a teacher who never farts in public? A private tutor! Yes! Oh my god! Didn't I just get one last time too? That was so fast, I was still processing it in my head. It's been all over social media. No, I promise! So I literally, when you said it, I go like, what was the joke? What do you call a teacher? who never farts in public yeah so i thought private right away and that's what like once i had that because it's been going around only because i found it and wrote it down and then remote producer benjo sent it to me he goes hey oh my god really and i'm like i just wrote that down to do so yeah what you guys don't know is 40 hours a week i just literally read dad jokes and hopes that that's the one you ask i wouldn't put that past me well done buddy thank you that's I think I get to say I'm back.
01:06:20All right? Well. For now. I'm back. That's called two in a row. You win one more, that's a winning streak. Or a heart attack.
01:06:34That is for Major League One for those playing at home. So good. Talk about a franchise that started off fantastic. Right? Took itself down. But. Hey, we love you guys. Thanks for tuning in. I think we're going to head over to the Patreon here. Yeah. Yeah. So just so everybody knows if you're listening on different platforms or whatever, but Spotify now has all the Patreon episodes tied to your account. So you just have to sign into Patreon and you can listen to Patreon episodes on Spotify. Right through Spotify. That's sick. You don't need to go. I didn't know that. So you don't need to go to Patreon to do it.
01:07:05You can just keep clicking it off of there. And it'll actually show up in the same order. So you can just be like regular episode right into the Patreon. Hell yeah. And it looks like video is coming back to Spotify for our normal episodes. We're working on it. It's taking a lot of time because it's like upload, wait, wait, wait. But I will say for anyone who is not subscribed, subscribe to Patreon for a ton of bonus content. And then you will be able to, like Erik just said, do it right through Spotify. You don't even need to mess with Patreon. And there's hours of it out there. So you only have to mess with it once to sign up and then run it through Spotify if you want to or.
01:07:36Hundreds of hours. Patreon if you want. Yeah. And we've added all the Patreon content to the website as well. So you can get some teasers on like what we're talking about. Yeah. Get some quotes out there, some jokes out there. I know it's not as cool as it used to be but we're still coolright.com go check it out because actually our website I would say is fucking cool what are we talking on Patreon this week we had a couple of different topics we had a couple of things because I still have another I'll give you the topic hard or soft and that's all we'll say so come on over to the Patreon find out if things are hard or soft I have a guess too yeah me too but you know with pills anything's possible for old men.
01:08:19Cheers! See you later! Bye, guys!
