Show notes

The guys crack open some drinks and dive into a mix of topics. Mike debuts his "Blood in the Water" cocktail—menthol McGillicutty, blue Gatorade, and grenadine—which smells like toothpaste but somehow works. They reminisce about craft beer's golden era around 2013, debate fireworks safety (including a wild trailer fire story), and rant about people who ghost restaurant reservations. They also recap a Cubs game in Milwaukee and rave about Dimensional Brewery. Classic dudes-hanging-out energy throughout. Cheers! 🍺

Welcome to We're Still Cool Right, the weekly podcast where the conversation flows smoother than top-shelf whiskey. And cool, well, it never really left. Grab a drink and hang out with Erik, Mike, and Shaun while they dive into nostalgia and attempt to answer the age-old question. We're still cool, right?
00:00:35
Here's to swimming with bow-legged women. Name the movie. No one knows. I've heard it. My fucking mic is off again. Dude, I looked at you and I was almost like, you're not my mic. Yeah, I can't even go. I'm fucking talking away.
00:00:53
He was so mad about it earlier. I was just like, edit it one more time. I turn my fucking mic off! If I do it one more time, it'll be hilarious. We need to have like a symbol, like, you know, like give the... Like a hand signal. Pulls the ear a little bit. Like Major League signs for pitching. It's like, Logan, I'm trying to talk here, can you just... Well, I was like, cut him off! I was like, I can always hear Shaun more than anybody. I didn't hear what he said right there, that was weird. Nope, you guys don't want me talking? I don't have to talk. I don't have to do it. We love you, buddy. We love you talking.
00:01:28
Hey, we're back for another one. This glass has a chip in it. Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry. My bad name. Alay? Alay. Oh, I wish. Yeah. A garden salsa sun chip, but yeah, go ahead. Hell yeah. We're back, baby. Yeah, we are. Thank you guys for coming back for another one. I'm really excited about this drink, which is brought to us by Benz Beverage Depot. 5-1-7-2. It is. It's a big green building. if you haven't heard. Big one. Yeah, a huge one. Gorgeous. It sings to you when you walk in. At least it sings to me. I don't know. Well, it sings in our head because we just know. We pull in and all of a sudden you're like, oh, it's not as hot out now.
00:02:08
I'm refreshed. You know, my legs feel stronger. God wills me into this world. I'm back, baby. I'm back. What I hate is when he wills me to a shopping cart because I'm like, oh, no. It's going to be a big day. Yeah, exactly. You walk in there and it turns into a musical. Oh, no. Oh, no. To the sound of music. Do you ever go in and not get a shopping cart? Yes. I try not to. I'm like, you know what? I'm going to buy one thing, and then I'm going to be fucking pissed that I didn't pick up at least a basket. So I just grabbed the basket cart. Well, I mean, that's true. Especially back in the day when we were, you know, the early days of Crapper, we were trying every beer that ever came out.
00:02:45
It's like I just ran to the fucking singles thing every time. And I was like, what six have I not had? I'm like, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo, boo. so and then on top of that i was buying like two six packs and then i was like i wish i had a basket sixer you know just a six just a sixer yeah back in the day i have a really really quick question yeah i don't want to do real things but you just said like the early days of craft beer yeah what was the what were the years that were the golden era of craft beer to me or like because like we've talked to clint about this it's like he drank like i had a sierra nevada 20 years ago but i didn't i had one i was like oh that's really unique i don't call that the golden years no i don't yeah i think that was early that was that was early years and iowa didn't have a lot of shit for a long time yeah i would say it's kind of around that time frame that you started the beer group on facebook what year was that shit that's what i was trying to remember i can actually tell you real quick because uh we used untapped like it was no one but like 2013 i bet It was 2013.
00:03:44
That sounds right. Because Untapped was like the social media. It still is for craft beer. Like if you can log all your beers and it tracks them and all this kind of stuff. But I definitely don't feel like we're in the golden era of craft beer anymore. It's gone. Yeah. So I started that August. Well, I started Untapped August 15, 2013. So it was probably like February of that year. Yeah, I agree. Because mine's September 27, 2013. So it was right after. yeah it was wade and i drinking like six packs of 90 minute dogfish head and being ridiculously hammered because those are like nine percent and we didn't we weren't used to that we're just like this is so good why can't i feel my toes it was funny because like mike and i just kept running into each other at oakland road yeah literally picking up beer constantly and then i started that group and i was like dude i we started just for our friends and then eric's like eric went balls deep like i did i was like will you help me run this thing i don't know what the fuck i'm doing it grew big it got bigger than it was supposed to get it was supposed to be like 40 people but anyway yeah so and then now i bear i don't drink craft beer as much anymore but that's just for health reasons i love it when i go out of town like we just went out of town this week and i'll get into that we drink craft beer you know but i can't do it all the time yeah i still enjoy it too but it's it's one of those where i gotta like know that i'm gonna kind of ruin my stomach for a little bit yeah it's a young man's game health wise for sure you guys could do whatever the fuck you want and you'll rebound from it we we don't do that so was it a pandemic thing that
00:05:14
kind of killed it was it like an aging out thing like you guys are saying like did the people who fell in love with it kind of age out of that mine was a health thing so i think when we when you talk individual consumption it's more it's been more of a health thing for me because like i didn't care i was actually excited that the popularity went down because i don't have to like compete with a bunch of shitheads that are selling them yeah pay for way more than yeah exactly yeah like standard lines for beer releases and stuff. Exactly. That was the whole thing of why I have like memberships to some of the breweries is because you couldn't get it if you weren't first in line or had a membership. That was it. That's still a thing.
00:05:49
But like so I was kind of excited for that but now I just drink less of it. I think so I don't think it was pandemic. Nerd! Fucking quitter! I think the so just like any trend in drinking there's you know sours came along and so people were drinking less ipas and then seltzers came along and people were drinking less beer and then thc drinks have come along and people are drinking more of that and then now there's people just not drinking at all na stuff and so it's it's a trend thing more so than yeah anything i think have we talked about zebra striping in here yet yeah we did i do that i i i actually i'm a big fan of that not all the time, but when I have to, if I'm going somewhere and I know I'm leaving in a few hours, it's like, I'll take two beers, but I'll take two NAs.
00:06:41
Just zebra stripe it. I've never heard that before. Was that before? I thought we talked about it on this. I thought we did, but you just may not have been listening. Producer Ben emailed us about it. I may have just been tuning y'all out. It's fine. We know. You throw in a couple NAs while you're going. So if you're out on the boat all day, you're doing it. Rotate them. And you rotate a few in, so you're still yeah and if you chug them fast enough then they then you don't really notice you're doing it but if you like take your time on that na you're like this is fucking piss water what is it this is like masturbation without the payoff what are we doing here you know what i mean so that my problem is i fucking drink beer so fast anyways i don't know how that became such a thing i kind of wish i mean i know why they do it but i kind of wish they didn't put the giant red stripe on the bush light i know because like i would probably just grab it you just wouldn't know it's a placebo effect yeah The ones that I think look the best is the McUltras.
00:07:34
It's just a little bit lighter blue, but it looks like the exact same thing. They do. I agree. They look the best. I will say I think it's the worst NA there is. Dude, it is just water. I mean, there's not much to it anyway. There's not, but some of them, like the Bushlight's not bad. Like the Heineken 0.0. Hey, Heineken. Heineken. But then there's the craft beer ones, like Athletic. And I mean, now there's Zero Eddie from Big Grove and all sorts of them. those at least still mostly taste like beer it is true though if you just if the can look the same i bet your mind would totally think you're drinking beer yeah because i would just like start putting them in this and you don't even look at it exactly sip it i mean a lot of times when we're out on the boat for hours like i don't need any more beer but i'm gonna keep drinking because we're out there right so if i can throw a few yeah it is on there then i kind of feel that about sodas uh like a coke zero not diet i'm not i'm not saying that but like the zero drinks that they have a lot of them are really close like i could start drinking coke zeros and not even realize yeah you know if if it was the same yeah that's true can't the same yep well no matter what you want to drink it's also a young man's game so this is a young man's game too yeah it's true can't do that shit anymore so i want to get into this because we had a busy week uh there's a lot going on and so we we always plan the drink out usually a lot a little earlier and i'm like leaving the house i'm like oh shit we didn't plan one now granted we have enough stuff here we can always come up with a drink thank you benz but i was like i have an idea so i made this i'm not going to tell you what's in it we're going to drink it first because we have i have no idea if it's
00:09:06
going to be good or bad i'm going to say the look of it i'm the name of it is blood in the water okay that's what i'm going to say it's like that or like a shark bite yeah what it made me think i almost said that but then uh shark bait hoo ha ha hoo ha ha the uh the the can crack line was from jaws so i like swim with bow-legged women is that really yeah okay all right there you go so cheers so you're calling this a giant shot we're supposed to just send it you i mean you could sip it but it's a little layered uh i'm gonna shoot it okay so it's just kind of a big one cheers everyone at home i'll tell you what it is in just a second smells like toothpaste i know exactly what it is he does he knows what's in it sean didn't like i think that's great no Tastes like fucking medicine Like it tastes like So it tastes like fucking college Erik knows my favorite thing to drink Like if I just want a shot of something Fuck off It's McGillicuddy Yeah, it's menthol McGillicuddy So I just thought, I was like leaving the house I'm like, well I have some of that, chilled Because I usually do And I had blue Gatorades So I just got the menthol McGillicuddy Real cold in a shaker poured an ounce and a half of that and then did like an ounce and a half of blue Gatorade and then I just a dash of grenadine.
00:10:24
I didn't know there was blue Gatorade in it. There was a decent amount. It was like half and half. I think the McGillicuddy just overpowers it. Yeah, but I love the taste of that. I don't get how people don't like it. I also love mints. I'm not a gum person. I'm a mint person. I just love the taste. It tastes like toothpaste. I'm like, I love the taste of toothpaste. I did get a little bit of the grenadine at the bottom. I think you could even do a little bit more grenadine and it would have a different... I know. I was afraid of it being too sweet. Buddy, I know you're excited for that, but that's trash.
00:10:52
I'm sorry. Hey, you know what? Try it at home. I'm a huge fan. This is from the guy that likes Malort. Yeah, exactly. Thank you. That's true. I would take that over Malort any day. You know what? I'll tweak the recipe a little bit. Maybe we try a little more. Maybe I do an ounce of an ounce and a half of McGillicuddy's. How is it with your pizza? Fucking bad.
00:11:15
I could have told you that before we took it. You brush your teeth and then you eat something. It's terrible. Drink orange juice? Yeah, you need some orange juice now? Yeah, try some orange juice. I'm so thirsty. I should have brought us an orange juice chaser. Oh, I'm drinking a featherweight lime from Field Day if you want one. Do you have a spare beer? Yeah. I'll take a spare beer. Yeah. Nice. Speaking of spare beers, while he's doing that, I'm going to pour this shit out. No such thing as a spare beer. We need a button for a band name. Yeah, we do. It's a hit. Fuck yeah. okay so um i'm gonna start this new trend i was telling the guys before i have way too many craft beers in my fridge and in my storage hold on long time listeners know that we've brought this up multiple times we're like we're just gonna start stealing beers from erica we're good for a year i'm gonna start this storage facility well like it's it's in my hvac room kind of in a chill like a cold room he has a deep freeze it's a cellar not a small one one of the long chest ones yeah that he converted to a fridge because it used to be for uh keg he had kegs in it yeah it's fucking full yeah yeah and then and another dorm fridge full and then two box two no four cases i was gonna more than two yeah so i need to start down need to thin the herd here i bet we We used to do shares, and you would take four or five bottles, and everybody would crack them, and it was great because I didn't have to drink this by myself.
00:12:42
I could try it, but I didn't drink it all by myself. Now nobody does any of that shit, so it just sits there. And that's another sign of the craft beer thing we were talking about. We did shares all the time. We can just do a share here on the podcast. I like it. Because this is all the shit that's tasty as an oil finger. We are dark beer fans. By the way, I'm just going to do a little segue if you don't mind, buddy, because I see that's from Dimensional. We went out of town this weekend and went to a Cubs game in Milwaukee. All it made me realize is, fuck, I love Wrigley. Logan, do you want to try some of this?
00:13:19
Milwaukee is just... I didn't grab you a class because I just... Really? I heard it's cool. The inside is fine. By the way, it was gorgeous out and they had the dome closed. I'm like, what the fuck is the point of that? But I heard it was a cool stadium. But there's nothing around it. So you can't bop around. It's a parking lot. You know what I mean? Because that's part of it at Wrigley. You can walk all around and go to all the different places and bar hop afterwards. And I way prefer that. Yeah. So it wasn't it for me. Well, nothing's better than you can't beat Wrigley. No, you can't. And that's the thing I realized.
00:13:50
And I'll get into that with my still cool in a bit. But it was fun. It was a fun game. Glad we went. I got to check off a stadium I haven't been to. I love that. I am still cursed. I was going to say, how's your record? 0-13. I still haven't seen the Cubs win live. I think he's allowed to go watch the Cubs anymore. I know. Yeah, by the way, they won the next two. Just once I left, they were fine. But in my defense, two days before we went to the game, Todd sends the starting lineup, and Mizorowski's starting for the Brewers, which if anyone doesn't know, he's a fucking phenom. I think his ERA is like 1.4 maybe.
00:14:25
But Todd was joking around. I think he retired the first five of six batters, or maybe it was three or four. I can remember but Todd like what if what if we would you be mad if you witnessed like a perfect game or a no against Cubs I like I still rather the Cubs win because I don want it to be against us But I go that would be cool We found out later You'd have to give them that old, like, alright, gotta hand it to you. But I will say, we found out later, we got to witness the highest, the fastest pitch ever recorded. Oh, really? He pitched to PCA and he fouled it off. And I remember everyone going nuts.
00:14:58
They hate PCA in Milwaukee, by the way. So every time he's up to bat, they're blowing, right? But he fouled it off. Well, he also said it. He goes, you better throw me his fastball. He goes, I hope he gets it. He did. Then he got the fucking full money. 105.5. 105. Jesus. Which is insane. And he fouled it off. And you heard, like, it sounded different. The place went nuts. I didn't realize until. I bet his fucking hands hurt so bad. Oh, dude. Because you get that fucking wooden bat. Just the rattle in his hands. Oh, I bet it just fucking killed. That guy's, I will say, the coolest thing is, like, I got to say I watched that guy pitch live because it really is incredible he's fucking amazing so but but fuck him fuck the brewers yeah yeah it's not a cub so but we ended up kicking around milwaukee we did all the stuff and then but the next day we went through galena stopped at you know blonde brothers and then we went to dimensional where uh our well my favorite brewery i think our favorite brewery and that's where this beer is from so i don't have a favorite oh i like them all i want us all to win you just up there you hope i just hope all teams have i just hope all breweries have a good time there's nothing wrong with that. I don't have a favorite. So what is this one, Erik?
00:16:03
What are we drinking? All right. So this is Wizzle. Wizzle. Wizzle. Wizzle is an English style barley wine aged in 1792 sweet wheat barrels. And a lot of people do not like barley wines. I love barley. 18 months. I thought it said four months, but 18 months, which makes more sense. And Mike loves barley wine, so that was why I picked this first. Thanks, buddy. I love them so much. That's pretty good.
00:16:37
It's just... It's such a unique taste to me. This is more barrel-aged stout. This isn't just like the syrup of some of the stouts, which I like. It just makes me think of some fucking gas station coffee. That's where it's like, you know, where the real tar's in there. You know what I mean? It's been sitting on those grounds for a while. Yeah, those burgers where it's like just stuck at the bottom. But that's tasty. I want to say, too, I think Dimensional, like I'm going to mess this up maybe, so guys, sorry. But I think they've had like the best beer in America like two out of the last three years.
00:17:14
They have been. They've won a ton of medals. They're winning a crap ton of stuff with Untapped and Rate Beer. Yeah. They've won several other awards, but they're killing it in that space. And if you look, I mean, so here's the thing that's interesting about the whole like craft beer stuff now, especially, but even before there's, there's rate beer and there's, um, shit, I'm drawing a blank on the other one. Um, there's a couple of different like standards ratings where you go to a competition and, and you, um, get rated and all that stuff. So there's like two or three of those that are big, like professional, uh, competitions that brewers go to and they have judges.
00:17:55
Great American Beer Fest. All those type of things. Outside of that, when you think about Untapped, that is user subjective reviews. So that's like you're winning awards on fucking Yelp. You know what I mean? Because you think about it, how shitty some people can be. Somebody comes in and drinks this and they think they're getting a lager and they're like, fuck that gross shit. Zero stars. Yeah. They're still winning. you know what i'm saying like they're winning in these categories and that's pretty awesome where anybody because yeah because you can just start an account you don't have to like there's no process to get an account or whatever you're just like nope fuck these guys yeah but yeah it's good big fan big fan huge that's good last thing i'll say is if you go to dimensional you have to have a big d you gotta drink the what is the big d the big is a giant flight like eight feet i don't know about eight feet six feet five feet whatever but it's all their beers so it's one of every every beer they have on tap so they had they had enough on tap like it was that plus a small one of four more i think it was i don't know i think it was 18 i could be wrong typically if they have like a barrel aged stout that's like a special release that's kind of not on the big d if you will but yeah you have to buy that separate god drink that big d everybody jump on the big d really important to me that you understand that when it comes to big d's the difference between five and six is important.
00:19:20
Well, but that's men's size, so just know the five is probably more like two, but to me it's five. Yeah, this thing's definitely guy math. This thing's definitely eight foot then. Right? Exactly. You're going to walk funny. You're going to walk like a bow-legged... Never mind. I will say because of the fucking alcohol content, you're not going to be able to stand up. On my 40th birthday, I took down the Big D by myself and I was pretty fucking hammered. Yeah, you did. Erik's never met a Big D he can't take down. That one... Sticks with you. That was an adventure. Shout out to Dimensional. Shout out to Benz. Thank you, guys.
00:19:58
Sorry, I'm going to tweak the drink a little bit, but let's get on with it. It wasn't good, but I'm glad. I'm proud of you for putting it together. The fact that you said that's bad, though, remember when we had this stupid Pink Whitney drink and you're like, it's not that bad. Stop discouraging people from drinking it. This is so much better than that was. That was under desk gum. You're right. I know. But when you have the fucking McGillicuddy's when you have the fucking McGillicuddy's that you like it is that is the flavor. It's so good. You're right though. That's all it is. I should have doubled the Garrett and tripled the Grenadine. But it's still going to come punching through. It's still just going to fight the beat back.
00:20:42
You could have just splashed the McGillicuddy's on it. Next time we'll do a Hey, no, it's fine. We're podcasting with pussies. I thought it was a great drink, but I also like McGillicuddy. I love it. Hey, we can do Rumpelmintz instead. Honestly, with that being said, I would do another one right now. I mean, it's not like it's not that bad. It's not that bad. It's not like, you know, and I thought it looked really cool, but I'm going to call it what it is. It did look really cool. It layered well. Did you do that, or did it just happen? No, it just settled. I was hoping the red, because when you put it in, it kind of floats a little bit.
00:21:17
I thought it would stay like that, just kind of mid, but it all dropped to the bottom. I wonder if you could. Over a spoon. Yeah, over a spoon to get it to stay on the top. I wonder if you could do that. I don't know. We'll have to play with that. Yeah. I'll play with it. If you shake it more than twice, you're playing with it, right? I shake it so much. All right, Shaun, what do you got for us?
00:21:41
Oh, well, this will be. Hang on one second. I keep taking a drink out of this and I feel like I'm picking my nose with this. Yeah. It touches the tip every time. Yeah. No. So I was curious, obviously this is going to be coming out just after the 4th of July. So it got me thinking, are fireworks still cool?
00:22:04
I already know the answer to that, but it's a madness. Can you qualify it a little bit more like watching them shooting them? So is it the, just shooting them off all day long like the black cats or whatever. You know what I mean? Is that sort of thing still cool? I remember being a kid. We would always do that. They're cool as fuck as a kid because you feel like you're doing something you're not supposed to. You are. That's why it's cool. Yeah, and that's why it's cool. You know what I mean? But that versus lighting off mortars as an adult where your kids are watching and stuff, night and day difference.
00:22:41
You know what I mean? But there's a big thing. now that's different is it's more accessible to us here in iowa at least because like when i was when we were kids like it was crazy if you got some m80s or something we had to go over the border man yeah get over the border yeah so if you had that stuff it was pretty fun cool now there's kids in our neighborhood shooting off mortars in the middle of the street and i'm like what the hell and i'm like let's be honest i drive by i'm like how the fuck are you affording these because they're not cheap and they're like well they got jobs and they're not even they're not even putting them in tubes they're trying to stick mortars down such a bad idea always a great idea always a great idea which is exactly how we're going to end up getting the fucking fireworks taken away from us right you know the but this week is big for it because it's legal this week right like or this month we could buy them and i think you can only for it's like a week after fourth of july right isn't that like i thought you could sell them all the time but i thought the only days you could actually light them is the day before the day of and the day after I thought.
00:23:38
You're right. No, it's, well, and it's by city. Cities create their own. Yeah, I'm talking about Seager Rapids. Seager Rapids is different than other places. Yeah. They're generally legal in the entire state. Yes. But city ordinances are what dictate shooting them off. But they're only legal also to sell for so long, too. Yeah. You can only sell it for like the month, right? Or like six weeks. I thought they made it available all the time, but I guess that makes sense. I don't think so. Otherwise we wouldn't have the pop-up ones. That's why we'd have more than just the pop-up ones. But that's funny to me that they roll in.
00:24:12
I think it's two weeks before, two weeks after, or something like that, right? But you roll in and you're like, oh, you guys can sell all you want. But hey, guys, you live here, right? Three days. That's all you buy. Buy all you want, but you can only ship for three. Shut the fuck up. No one's doing that. Dude, I've been hearing mortars in my neighborhood for two weeks now. That's why I thought it was a week, because I feel like it's right this time of year where everybody's doing it this week or whatnot. Those things just popped up a couple weeks ago. They're all getting excited because they're breaking the law.
00:24:42
Breaking the law. With that being said, I kind of had some more things. Fireworks, I think we can all agree they're fucking cool. I don't think they're ever going to not be cool. They're pretty cool. It's just fucking cool. Again, as dudes, I don't know. There's something about just blowing shit up. Every kid was a pyro at some point in their life. It's pretty fun. Just when you hear that bang when it shoots out of there. I love that. and then wait for it. You know what I mean? Yeah. Oh, all the different ones with that. I fucking love that shit. Here's my thing. I'm not saying they're not cool, but I have a caveat to this one.
00:25:13
Oh, all right. The fucking mortar's going off all night long. Oh, yeah. I hate that. I have a dog that doesn't like it. Also, I'm sitting in, I literally have headphones in my house and I can still hear it. That's some bullshit. Yeah. I'm just so used to it. If it's 4th of July, it's fine. the days around, cool. But for a week before, I'm like, fuck you. This is so annoying. Look how old you are. I love shooting them off, but I would rather shoot them off in the middle of nowhere. That's true. It is way more fun in the middle of nowhere. We're not bothering anybody. Just like I don't walk around talking on my cell phone in a restaurant.
00:25:56
On speakerphone. On speakerphone, on video. I don't do that shit. I heard they had to close. Rest in peace, Biagers. All right. I think you sound pretty fucking crotchy. Get off my lawn. Get off my lawn. Exactly. Get off my lawn and fucking put those fireworks away. My dog hates me. He shakes like shit, but you know when he goes to the basement and he fucking gets through it? I hate that for him, but I just know. I know a week before and a week after, basically that whole time, it's fair game. You aren't going to be able to do anything about it either. Absolutely not. You can call the cops. you can go out there and yell at them you're not gonna do shit no you can't do that you can't be calling cops i agree you shouldn't because it's dumb but even if you do the first call they're not even showing up i guarantee you at our old house over regal by me yeah they were lighting them off from their garage and shit was hitting our house and it was shaking the windows i did call the cops yeah i'm like well because you were fucking dangerous well hold on that and you found like blown up shit all over your yard.
00:26:58
I'm like, that's too close. That's dangerous. I heard a story about someone in my neighborhood back in the day that used to light off fireworks and some guy shot a bottle rocket out or whatever it was and it came down and landed in the guy's eave spouts. Like those things and that's where it fucking blew up. And the guy didn't clean his gutters. The guy whose house that it landed is the only guy in the neighborhood that fucking hated fireworks. So like the whole thing would do it it was on for the delight it went up and they're like it just landed his and fucking blew the whole thing off of the front of it oh shit it's like son of a bitch so they're like we had to fix it of course it lands in that guy you know like i have everybody out here but i was like that's pretty fucking funny i have such a bad story that i'm like debating if i say it or not but like the whole what is that the age of discretion like i don't know what it's called like i can't get in trouble for it now even if the guy listened oh i think you're you're uh but it's just like statute of limitations thank you that's awesome but like i i i don't like the things we did when we were young right everyone's a kid and you vandalize shit whatever and then now you're an adult and it's different you're like but honestly i am open enough where if someone did vandalize me i'm like i deserve that like you know so we were at i grew up uh didn't grow up great was in a grip in a trailer court and so a bunch of buddies were over i want to say adam was there so chris was the one that did it rest peace buddy he was holding a two liter but he didn't want to like stick it in the ground and shoot it and it wasn't like a mortar but it was one of the giant
00:28:32
bottle rockets so he held a two liter bottle with it i'm like dude that's gonna spray your hand it's gonna burn yeah it's gonna burn right and he's like i've got this whatever well he holds it up sprays his hand, burns him, drops it. You can't make this shit up. This is on my kids. It spins. When it hits the ground, it goes... And it goes up the next trailer where their window's cracked maybe half an inch and it gets stuck and it goes... And then goes through. Then you see... Inside the trailer.
00:29:04
Dude, hand to God. And I'm like... I see their curtains on fire. I panic and I run over there And this is one of the things I most proud of of like you know I can come up with shit on the spot I the spot I don even knock I run in their trailer this is probably 11 at night maybe midnight and the fucking curtains are on fire a little bit, and so I grab I start filling up a bowl of water and the guy comes out, and he's like, I can't believe I'm telling this and he's like, what the hell is going on and I was like, these fucking these fucking punks came in and were lighting fireworks, and they hit our trailer with one and all this stuff and so he's like god damn it and he's like thanks for putting that out and so he comes out he's like where'd they go we're like i don't know we pile in a car like we're gonna go find him so we just went and drove around for like 30 minutes and then came home and we're like we can't find him and he and he thanked us over and over like for trying to do it and putting out the fire i felt so bad okay so i didn't want to get the shit kicked out of me by like a fucking 40 year old dude at like you know 15 years old so i've seen those before where it's happened like in bigger cities where it blew up in somebody's fucking apartment. You know what I mean? Like where it shut off.
00:30:12
It's so bright. So, okay. I felt terrible because like, what if a fucking kid was in there or something? You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. You didn't fucking mean to. It went in this little thing. I mean, it's just, but I remember watching it go, and I'm like, please no, please no. And it had just enough to get through. And then it blew up. I'm like, God. Okay. I'm going to say three things about this. Number one, you're I mean, good for you reacting and putting out a fire. I did put out a fire. That's a good thing to do. I should have told the Cub Scouts, I get my fire badge. I also am super impressed with how fast you came up with that story. Yeah, quit goat thinking.
00:30:45
Dude, Chris was like, how did you come up with that? I go, I was fucking panicking. I thought he was going to kick the shit out of us. I didn't know what to say. The last one's going to be an asshole joke, but I know you'll appreciate it. There's no statute of limitations. You don't have to worry about that with Chris, okay? Is that true? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true. That's true. It's his fault. Yeah, that's true. Love you, buddy. Rest in peace. R.I.P., buddy. Yeah. R.I.P. But God damn. Oh, fuck. I felt so bad. Oh, well, I'm with you. I'm impressed that you ran in there because I had to fucking ran the other way.
00:31:14
Dude, I thought I lit the place on fire. But that's what I'm saying. That's awesome that you did it. I'm not sure I would have reacted the same way, especially being young like that. We'd probably just be fucking running. I was gone. Yeah. So everyone else. So I can't remember. I think Adam was there. They ran. Oh, yeah. It was like you fucking assholes. And so, yeah. But no, you just drive around for 30 minutes. Say it with somebody else. I will say, it's also a way better outcome if you had not caught the place on fire. Like, if it caught on fire, it doesn't matter how far you guys are around.
00:31:43
I can't imagine, but I can't imagine, yeah. Have you seen some of those videos when those trailers catch on fire? The way they go, man. They don't last long. Like wood paneling. Yeah. Well, good for you. So, moving on from that, sorry. I'm glad you shared that story. That's a fucking... Yeah, yeah. So, I think we can fucking agree. I'm sorry. Fireworks are fucking cool. Are they cool? so cool that story there's plenty of fucking good stories i'm sure there's plenty of people listening to that bad stories and i was at a party this weekend with a couple er um nurses and a doctor and they're like just someone said anybody come with their hands blown off and he's like not yet but it's coming it's coming you know i mean like every time people missing digits like that goes on and it's like just scary with that shit you know i mean with us having they're not predictable man like some they blow up early they blow up late well and it's always that thing like don't cover your hands you know i mean if it burns your hand it burns your hand it goes off that way yeah but you know once you you know wrap it in a ball and like you're gonna chuck it or something my cousin jt i'll never forget like we lit an m80 through it and it was like and the the fuse went out and so we like waited a minute and we're like what the fuck it's but he walked up we were again 13 14 years old he picked it grabbed it and like the wind from him doing that like re-sparked it and he saw and he goes oh fuck and he threw it but it only exploded like six inches took chunks out of like multiple places of his arm because just the shrapnel popping off of it I don't know about you guys but like
00:33:15
I at an early age like introduced the kids to it because I fucking loved lighting off fireworks and stuff but I introduced them to it and like started like saying hey you do it and like giving them a little bit of that freedom really young but also showing them don't fucking hold it in your hand here have a tube or something like I would have a metal tube and I'd put it in the ground and they could do there and they could light it and run away if you start them on that practice then they're going to be like oh okay I mean yeah because you don't want to take it from the best day to the worst and that's about what happens on some of those things so they are fucking cool who was the NFL player that blew off like three of his fingers? I always want to say Plexigl Burris but he's the one that shot himself Nobody played for the Giants also.
00:34:00
He played for the Giants. Justin Tuck? No. No. Fuck. His name comes up basically every... This time of year. Every this time. Yeah, it's like they compare him to Chubbs from fucking Happy Gilmore. I believe it was in 2015. It was New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. Yep, that's it. Jason Pierre-Paul. JPP. He lost multiple digits of... Yeah, he's got... Yeah. And he was a big star, too. He kept playing after it. He had to wear a special glove and stuff, but, you know. He lost his right index finger, suffered a severe injury requiring a flap procedure on his middle finger, and lost the tip of his thumb.
00:34:42
And he ultimately had to have his index finger amputated. Well, I was going to say he was rocking out, but then wah, wah, wah, that one went away. So, yeah. Hey, guys, be careful with your have fun, but take it serious. That's a really weird shocker. Yeah, it really is. Just all in the sink. all stink all the time baby is that url available all in the stink that's a great band name jesus christ how do we get here oh why why do we why do we all in the stink all right um all in the stink oh all in the st dot inc is available that's even better that's pretty good flying to the radio. Oh, wow.
00:35:29
Jesus. God, the gold we find. It's crazy. So, yeah. Fireworks, my opinion. I think you have more to say about it, but I think fireworks are still cool. Yeah, because my other thing that I was going to say is it's so cool. Is it cool to be patriotic?
00:35:44
That's such a loaded question. I think the World Cup's making it cool again. Because people are coming over here and being like, they're not that bad over the years. I think being patriotic is always cool. I think it's a lot cooler when you're proud of I want to say your government but I don't think anyone's been super proud of them for a very long time. Let's put it really simple. It's really cool when we're not arresting people for touching the reflecting pool. Shit like that. Little things like that. You look back past presidents or whatever. A lot of people are like we haven't had a great president since let's say JFK. You look back and you're like oh it seemed a lot easier to be patriotic than since after that.
00:36:26
Right. So I'll leave it at that. Like I said, I'm still pretty patriarch when it comes down to this World Cup right now. And that I definitely, so it's like I'm on board with it. Shaun loves the movie Miracle. I will say, by the way, the fucking USA apparel is fucking awesome now, too. Is it? Oh, just all kinds of stuff. Like, it's way better than it used to be back in the day. Where it's just a flag. Yeah. On a red shirt. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, and some shitty, cheesy hat. Like, now there's actually cool shit. I think it's always cool to We've talked about this Sports, having a team to root for There you go You have to get your country to root for Also, it's a great time to wear your shirt I'm just here to bang Nick has that shirt Did he wear it yesterday?
00:37:13
No, he didn't I do love that shirt It's so good Do you guys have your 4th of July shirts yet? I haven't figured it out I got one we're going to this Phantom Bananas game. So like, I don't, I'm actually going to wear a shirt. I don't really care a lot about because I want to buy an actual like licensed one from them. Sure. So that I'm not really worrying about it too much. Wow. So we still got to have a 4th of July shirt. I mean, I have some like that. Like I have like the day before or the day after. Yeah. I've got like a woman like George Washington, but I can't remember what it says. I got Nick and I matching ones years ago because we went to Harper's Ferry for the weekend.
00:37:50
I just can't remember what it says. But yeah, I love the shirt. You're not going to borrow the USA kilt? It's not the 4th of July until my wiener comes out? Dude, it's going to be so hot that day. We're kind of stressing about how bad it's going to be at the stadium on Saturday. It's like 95 degrees. You know where it's not going to be bad? Your pool, asshole. I know. I'm looking forward to that. You know how bad I wish we had gotten tickets on the 3rd and not the 4th? I don't know how you wouldn't have done that. It's going to be 105 degrees. 105? five in kinnick stadium oh my god we're gonna die yeah like literally i i said to the kids i go do you i'm not talking you out of going we can go like i'm excited to go i've never seen them and the kids are like we want to go so bad and i'm like okay i go but just know if it's that miserable like we're sitting through it you know what i mean like we spent all the money maybe you guys going super early like 230 or whatever 30 holy shit maybe you should the game's not till seven is the people going to die yeah we might bring something to sedate some kids I'll tell you what my drill sergeant told me back in the day all you guys are going in and some of you aren't coming home fuck oh it's going to be so bad the nice thing I mean Kinnick you can get down in the tunnels and the bathroom areas it's all shaded we need to get there because we need a parking spot with no fucking air moving.
00:39:20
Yeah. Thanks, Shaun. You're not selling this at all. I don't care. I'll be so fucking happy in my pool. I know. We're going to send you lots of pictures of our 4th of July show. You know what I should do is I should see... Fuck off. I should see if I could sell our tickets and buy a third on the third. So you should. See if you want to trade. Who wants to trade? Who's out there? I have less than a week right now, but I'll give it a go. Hey, it's go time. Yeah. That's funny. All right. You could wear your throat goats shirt. that that's great yeah the kids around the stadium will love that like what's their family family friendly dad to be like your mother i just like a name tag hi my name's mike for a good time call 8 6 7 5 3 0 9 yeah so all right i'm saying still cool and proud to be usa it's still okay it's still cool yeah doesn't mean we have to like everything about we don't have to like it all we never do never liked it all so but we like how cool we are and how welcoming we are we're good you know we do all right so yeah did you have a still cool topic or you want me to go you go ahead okay so i liked yours yeah it's uh this kind of was prompted from i went to chicago for a few days for a youth group conference thing and we like took 34 people out to a restaurant Obviously that's a complicated procedure, but we tried to make a reservation and do the right thing and all this.
00:40:49
So anyway, our reservations at like at restaurants specifically, but we can talk about other things. Still cool. Why don't they take them? That drives me nuts. I mean, I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to do it for your staffing or what, like just to be aware of it. Like I just never, I don't, I've, I never worked in restaurants though. I've never been a part of it. So I don't know. As an outsider looking in, I just feel like I would always want to know who wants to come and what kind of night we're going to have. You know what I mean? I will say the biggest thing is because there's a local establishment I know really well where it's like, now if you take a deposit or whatever, it's a little bit different because you're like, oh, in theory they're going to show up or they're going to let us know if they're not coming within 24 hours or whatever.
00:41:32
But when you just have a place and you just take reservations and people constantly just make it and then they don't show up, it fucks a lot of things up. that's the only kind of negative i can see to it otherwise i don't know why everyone doesn't do it i think i think i mean is that a thing that people make them oh yeah oh yeah like the place i'm talking about that you know like it happens all the time and it's or they make a reservation for 15 people right and so you're like oh we're only going to give them half of the giant room and then they show up with 40 and you're like oh well now we have another one here and there's not enough room but those people are just dipshits so that's where it's like agree what do you have it ready for you right you know i mean yeah and we had it ready for you and you you act with that and if you have 15 and you bring 16 or 17 we can accommodate exactly you bring 25 right sorry i think that's the problem is like we forget because we're not those people how many fucking assholes and unaware people there are well i realize that but also then if those people are just going to show up don't you want to be staffed for it you know i mean or whatever because you can always cut servers like that's how it is they don't show up it's like it sucks for the person you had but you didn't have them the whole night you know i mean like doing whatever and to me i just feel like i wouldn't want to miss that opportunity too then if fucking 30 people get like that's a payday for the no you're right you know i mean like i don't know here here's my like so i again same as you i haven't worked in the industry i obviously know a lot of people in the industry and i've talked to him about it and
00:43:03
understand some people's perspective. Cale, Justin, let us know what you guys think. The big thing that irked me and why I brought this topic up, we had 34 literally at a chain restaurant in Chicago. It's Giordano's, the pizza place.
00:43:27
It's going to be one ticket. This is a massive bill and we're going to be one group. one order in and out to the fucking dream for the hardest fucking thing you have to do is take drink orders right yeah yeah drinks you're gonna run your ass off but we're having fucking pizza that we're gonna split out between we even whatever pre-ordered all the deep dish pizzas because they take so long we already knew what the fuck it was taken over okay right no you right but but they were they were kind of dicks about like wanting to give us that much space because they busy on fridays and we like we here with a conference now you guaranteed you know well and it's like i understand i'm i'm not taking it up because like i mean we got six people but i need at least a table of eight you know what i mean you're like you know like you're not being like i'm taking up space but i'm fucking filling the whole space and we're pizza and we weren't saying like we need to be all at one table we are obviously like we'd like to be in vicinity of each other but not right sure so anyway the whole thing i just didn't want those i think the management and the person they're not buying booze is what it was ain't no booze coming on this ticket yeah i think i think probably the people that were taking the reservation and the management were the more of the crux of it sure the staff were awesome like once we got in there and oh yeah yeah seated everybody was super cool and i could see that though if you were taking up that much space and that's all your booze drinkers and there's not in seats because that does drive up why don't you take these pizzas to go right go to a park but
00:45:02
still like 34 people 34 pizzas like you know depending on if people because they do like the the personal deep dish ones, but whatever. It is a server's dream. 34 people on one ticket. You're basically just like taking orders and running drinks. That's all you're doing. Yeah. Like I can't. You're just responding and writing it down and no big deal of like, remember, and that was with them or this or, yeah. They didn't know before we got there, if we were going to be those people that could do everything to make it simple for them. But it's one of those things where it just frustrates me because I feel like when it comes to reservations that should make things streamlined as far as the consumer and as a business yeah right you're saying i commit to being there at this time and you commit to having me a table like like that's like i've got both of these things but it just seems like there's so much friction to it yeah and i would be fine with like you got to give us credit card and you don't show up we charge you i mean here's our minimum that we charge right 50 i mean yeah Enough that you might be a little pissed about it.
00:46:04
If you don't show up, you're going to get charged this amount. Yeah. Just like the same thing. You don't have to put a deposit down. Just saying, if you don't show up, we are going to charge you this. Just like if you leave without closing out your tab. They close out your fucking tab, and they put a 25% fucking gratuity on it automatically. By the way, that should be more. I just want to throw that out there. But I'm just saying, everybody knows that.
00:46:26
You're not going to bitch about it. If you are the fucking person that's bitches, then it's like, fuck you. You've ruined. And it's people like you that don't cancel these things. That ruins it for everybody else. So, yeah, you're paying the fucking, you know, we're charging it. And that's what it's going to be. And, well, I mean, you can do pre-authorizations on things to know before. You know what I mean? Like, you can charge it for it. We're going to do a pre-author. And if it doesn't come back, you don't get to hold your, you know, if they give you a fake card. Right. You know what I mean? But whatever.
00:46:53
So, I wish that that would happen. And I would be all about, like, if you fucking miss yours, get ding, get charged. You know what I mean? because for us to have a group and want to go out, it's stressful when you're sitting there all standing in the fucking lobby waiting for a fucking table and you hope you get one as opposed to, nope, we're here and whatever. I'm trying to do you a solid. You know what I mean? This isn't me just talking shit because I've never forgotten my card somewhere because somehow I haven't. I've done it before, so that's what I'm saying. But I'm also totally fine with them putting whatever.
00:47:26
Totally get it. That's what I was going to say. I feel like shit. If I did that, I totally want you to fucking charge me like 35, 40% as gratuitous. Because that's on me. It fucked up your whole night. Like closing out the register, all these things. I think that should be on the person. I think the standard is 20%. It should be 30% because that makes you feel like if you're a 20% tipper, it makes you feel like you paid a little effort because you did something done. It's like in the UFC when you come into the weigh-ins over and they're like, well, I'm taking 20% of your purse. and they're like, yeah, I don't care. I'm going to beat the fuck out of this guy now.
00:47:59
Because I'm like, you got to make it enough that it hurts a little bit. You know what I mean? Make it hurt, drill sergeant. Make it hurt. Yeah. Well, I don't know if it's still cool or what. Because I think they're fucking cool to make reservations. I do. I do. When we go on the party bus, if we go anywhere with a group of bigger than like eight, I try to call and be like, hey, just a heads up. We're rolling in hot. You want to be a fucking asshole. I had a feeling that this is how the conversation would go with us because we treat things like like this or making an appointment a doctor's appointment or appointment at the bank or whatever it's like a verbal contract like we are committing to doing this and if not yeah if i can't i'm going to call you i'm going to let you know yeah yeah yeah um so i kind of thought we're really great people but like there's so many shitty people that make it but we're really great we're like really great people it's like left lane drivers if there If there weren't shitty people, this would be great.
00:48:53
This would all be great. Left lane drivers. They're the fucking left lane drivers of the people that don't fucking show up for reservations. Exactly. They got free a night. Bro. Dude, after driving. They all care about their damn selves. They're the same one fucking FaceTiming in the middle of, I don't know, girl. You wouldn't believe this, man. Going to fucking Milwaukee this weekend. It's me, Kara, Julie, and Todd. And Kara right away is just ripping into people. I'm like, oh, I should have warned you. She is kind of a road rager. and like she loves, dude, she fucking gets in. She rips people assholes.
00:49:24
Yeah, she just like. I think you're great, Kara. I enjoy it. Oh, I'm not. No, she is. She's great. This is why she drives in the big cities. I don't deal well with that shit. I'm just like, okay, this is fine. Like she just fucking flips people off and like screams and I'm like, get it all out, baby. Get it all out. Ashley's like that too. Ashley's like, get over. I'm like, I'm trying. She's like, come on, you pussy. Like that little opening was there. Let's go. So like with her, she's like. Dude, I can't do it, man. Fog, fingers up, fuck off. I love visiting the big cities. You couldn't pay me to live on.
00:49:54
Ashley starts getting all warmed up, and she's like, ready to go. Her and Kara are so much alike. I was driving in Chicago with four boys in the truck with me. And they're older. Oh, this past weekend, yeah. So they're all 18 to 20 slash almost 21.
00:50:13
But I'm not supposed to be a super angry, aggressive adult while they're... Erica, Erica. I'm supposed to be the remote. Erica's the rich. Yeah. They heard a few cursors. But I did pretty good. I did pretty good. But also, it's like, you know. You got to learn. Come on. You know what? You're empowering the youth in a weird way. You know what I mean? You're like, you haven't been through it yet. This is what it's like. Fuck off. Get out of the left lane if you're going to drive that fast. One of my passengers, luckily I know he doesn't listen to this, but one of my passengers at one point said i don't mean to be a backseat driver and i said i'm about to i'm about to push you out of this car then don't be you just don't start it with that because that means you are that's like what someone looks he goes no offense but and i'm like no no you lost me at the butt you know what i mean like i fucking everything you're gonna say after that i'm gonna take offense to just on principle that's what my wife said too what you lost me at the butt yeah that is not a conversation we're getting into maybe on patreon which maybe that's a good time to plug that after this we continue on patreon and i will say on this next one we are bringing back an old segment that is i think i know it's my personal favorite i think it's everyone's personal favorite but it is smash or pass i'm not going to tell you who it's about you'd have to tune in to see it. We're going to have to do some clips from the last one. Get those
00:51:44
out there for everybody. No, they just need to take our word for it. Just get some clips out there. Promo. We're starting to get some clips out again. Until we get killed. What, shanked? Too soon? There were no Lynn County inmates on there. They may live here now. This time, there's nobody from Iowa. Oh, perfect. Last time there was? I can't say. You wouldn't say it. yeah he didn't tell us we didn't know so it's fine yeah they're all right for sure this time there's a there's nobody even from iowa i just i get so excited i thought that someone i might know might pop up i'm like come on i kind of want to send you what i saw the other day send it to him what it can't but no it's like a johnson county that's okay we don't mind is it funny or is it someone you know no it's just the they're from the picture and the yeah the whole thing. It's probably too close.

No Lynn, no Johnson. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I won't say a name, but like Julie sent one today where it's like we know the person. I'm like, oh, god damn. That's bad. Did you say smash? No. I saw one today, too. We'll talk after. Yeah. You're rooting for people. Yeah. I know people. Was it one that just came out today? I think I saw it. I think I saw it. But it's just like it happens. People go through some shit. It is what it is. But some things you're like, come on, man. You gotta be smarter than that. You know what I mean? Come on, woman. You gotta be smarter than that. So we are gonna use this time, too.
00:53:15
First of all, reservations, totally cool. Yeah. If you fucking are a decent human being, they're fucking cool. Because you know what a reservation is? It's being respectful. You know what I mean? As long as you use it like it's supposed to be, it's a verbal agreement between two parties. Like, you're agreeing to give me a fucking table and I'm agreeing to be there on time. And you're going to have it staffed so that we can do it. You know what I mean? Or a call in the head being like, hey, we drink a lot of beer, so be ready with the beers. And if you have to cancel, then either plan on paying a fucking, losing a deposit or call earlier to, you know what I mean? We used to do that with our family. We're coming. We drink a lot of Miller Lite. Like a lot of Miller Lite.
00:53:51
If you think you have enough, you need a little more. I promise you. And every time they're like, we're out of fucking Miller Lite. Which I've seen that. It's true. They all drink Miller Lite. So when you roll in like 35 deep and you're like drinking for six hours and everyone's only drinking miller light you're like do you got a backup option more than one more than one bar owner go to another bar to buy their miller light yeah no trust me i need this so yeah they are still cool but 100 for sure that being said i think we should plug the patreon just a little bit here because we are going to do a smasher pass we are um those of you that have listened before it's a good one um it's a fun time where we laugh and joke and we get a little more racy with it being something behind a paywall there for you it's all very light-hearted and good fun yeah but but but worth turning into so yeah you know sometimes our kids could listen to this or like someone i work where you we work with or whatever like on there we don't give a fuck if you want to pay the money yeah did you see audrey commented on the tiktok no what did she say it was the playboy one she's like what's that being all coy yeah you know yeah so for those who don't know patreon you can get that app you can search it in the app store download it and then once you get that you sign up and search for us um and then uh yeah you sign up along with us and get our weekly content we're putting stuff out there every week along when we do an episode and there's tons of stuff out there now so for

Well, it's funny because we all know Brad. He likes whiskey, too. That's how we get him. I got him a bottle. We gave away one or two. One. Okay, so we have two more bottles to give away. And some merch. Not this one, but we will say when this comes out we'll do it on the next one so we'll remember next week to do a drawing for the next so you said in the last one too well fucking roll it jesus christ let's give it away let's plan this thing out because actually i was at a thing this weekend and someone's like i want a shirt because i had one of our shirts on that i think we need to get something out and kind of figure some of that stuff out so let's talk about it a little bit more before we do it and we'll do more of an official one on here of when we're going to do those sort of things of how we can do it but just know we have more giveaways coming when we get one more subscriber yeah you know what i like that as soon as one more person signs up we'll give away the next bottle of whiskey but there's at least two bottles coming plus some shirts and then we're gonna go on from there and keep doing stuff so sweet you got a joke for us yeah i don't like how comedy where you didn't say he remembers about his phone It pisses me off already.
