welcome to we're still cool right the weekly podcast where the conversation flows smoother than top shelf whiskey and cool well it never really left grab a drink and hang out with eric mike and sean while they dive into nostalgia and attempt to answer the age-old question we're still cool right Well, finally got rid of them. Yep. This rebrand is going to be great. I think it'll really target younger audiences. I mean, God, I hope it does. All right, well, on that note, we're back.
00:00:45
Since we're all here, or new here, I'm Sophie. I'm Logan. I'm Audrey. And this is the We're Still Cool Right podcast. Hell yeah. I'm just going to get right into it. The drink of the day is a pina colada made with pineapple juice, pineapples, and I think coconut. It's pretty good. Got her a little garnish here. Yeah, your guys' looks much better than mine. I think yours got a little bit... Messed up. During transport.
00:01:14
It's pretty good, though. Oops, I messed it up. Brought to you by Benz Beverage Depot on 501 7th Ave. I did not like that at all. The pina colada? Yeah, that was disgusting to me. What are you talking about? It's so good. I don't even know. That doesn't taste... I thought it would be the coconut that I don't like, but... It just tastes like pineapple? I don't know. That made me actually have a face, I think. I like it. There's not even any alcohol in this one. Maybe that's why I don't like it. Oh, alright. But since we're on the topic of what's so cool, I was just wondering, what's popular things at your guys' school?
00:01:52
like I feel like at my school it's really cool to just like like on the weekend you'll see like 30 people in the high school parking lot yeah like just a couple different groups do you guys ever make like car circles no like what do you mean like so what me and my friends do if we um have enough people we'll all back up our cars into a circle and then pop the trunks and then we'll all just sit out of the trunks and just listen to music and hang out that i wish we did that that sounds kind of fun actually it's really fun um we don't really do all that i don't even think anybody meets in our parking lot anymore really besides like a couple people like maybe meeting to go do something yeah there's just like if you were to drive past i mean they call it the kpl the kids these days actually they've called it that for a while yeah but if you drive past kpl like on a saturday night in the summer there will probably be some cars there a lot of people also play like pickleball like i play pickleball pickleball yeah in the just in the courts oh yeah yeah i mean they're not pickleball courts they're tennis courts but i've noticed like while i'm playing there with my friends that's why we're there but like there will be people that just pull up and lurk yeah and then we usually i mean a lot of the kids that go to our school meet in the xavier parking lot is what i've noticed which is kind of weird yeah and that's why they started shutting it down they've shut it down there's like big like traffic stopping things now at the
00:03:22
zina parking lot that's crazy yeah that's like 11. that's so weird no there's always people in our parking lot like we'll go to like meet to go to the mall because i have some like freshman friends who can't drive and there'll be like five other groups of people in there like i seriously saw like 20 boys get out of like one like tiny little car like a clown car yeah no they just kept coming out i was like when is this gonna end okay i don't the thing that i don't understand about people that do that is like i feel like people have always viewed me as like the the dad friend because like i wouldn't get in the car that full just out of scarcity of like if we get pulled over i don't want to get in trouble and my friends have always made fun of me for that but it's like dude if you if you have 20 people in a car and you get pulled over everyone is screwed right and so like i there's a lot of people that do stupid things like that and i don't understand how they aren't worried at all yeah i mean um like on another note people doing stupid stuff somebody just got trapped in a cul-de-sac from egging somebody down my neighborhood and they got your neighborhood and they got like stuck like they couldn't leave like what do you mean like their neighbor trapped him in because they saw them egging him wow that's so funny did they get like the police called or did they just wow yeah wow there's being charges pressed crazy did they just act one house or okay was it was there like a reason was it like no they were
00:04:53
friends with the person kennedy kids do that stuff it's weird well that's probably they were just you know playing a prank but then the neighbor was in a bad mood yeah or something i've heard of some kids going and doing that kind of stuff but not really that often like yeah it's just unnecessary and that's like probably the one of the worst things you can do to somebody's house because that can strip paint yeah that would suck yeah it's bad yeah see that's actually a really great point i've some of my friends have asked me like they'll be like yo logan you want to go hang out and i'm like what are we gonna do because like i don't want to go out if i'm not really gonna have fun and they're like well i don't know there's not much to do we could like go cheese people and i'm like what do you mean and they say like you know go buy slices of cheese and throw them on people's houses and cars yeah and i will say i went once i didn't do it but i was driving and not only was it just not that fun i was like there's a lot of risk in this i don't really see the appeal i remember like one time like i was really young and i had this like friend um and the solon like the neighborhoods like in solon are a lot closer together and just a lot more like easier to walk around than like my neighborhood okay and one time we went and we like ding dong ditched like two or three people houses i was like this isn even like like it was like fun kind of fun the first time but like like the adrenaline Yeah But then it was like dude like everybody has like a ring door camera and you just like named like 10 people just in our grade who like live in this neighborhood Like I not trying to like right Yeah Cause you more than likely get caught Yeah And there no reason to get caught up over something that time So I say egging people and toilet paper and stuff
00:06:45
not cool not cool i mean my brother has like done some stupid stuff like he make chickens people's mailboxes yeah but it's like it's his friends who don't really care and it's not doing any like real damage yeah right no yeah people in my school like will prank each other's friends a lot like yeah and i think that could be funny but it gets to an extent no yeah as long as you know it's like a joke and like if your friends are like that like i think yeah but yeah if they're good sports right so fun pranks still cool but like like egging some random person's house is just not cool yeah right it sounds like if it involves food like food on things that aren't intended to take food yeah that feels like a problem it can be it can be seen as not cool yeah cheese have you ever heard of potatoing someone's yard where you sprinkle like uh mashed potatoes before it rains.
00:07:46
I've heard about that. I've seen that on TikTok and I thought that was crazy. Yeah, I saw that once too. I never heard about it again. That's crazy. That's crazy. That's like ex-boyfriend, girlfriend probably. Especially before it rains. Crazy. Wouldn't it suck to get out? Wouldn't it happen to mow or something? Yeah. How would you get that out? I don't really know. I think that's why it's so, like, you would want to do it to your ex. Because it's pretty shitty. Because it's so, yeah. What was the, was it quarter zips you were talking about before we started recording? We could talk about quarter zips.
00:08:25
So I was talking about, in the St. Paddy's Day episode, they were talking about, like, the layered shirts. Like, the short sleeve and then, like, the long sleeve under it. And honestly, like, at least at my school, like, it's not like people do it, like, every day. but there's a couple of like outfits people do and i think they're like really cool and like a couple people definitely like wear them like i wouldn't say it's like a common thing but like it's definitely i definitely think it's still cool yeah yeah i think everything from that era has came back at some point truly i think what happened is it like dipped because like i think like like covid like when everybody was inside i felt like i saw that like a lot online and then everybody decided that it was like cringe and then what was that from like that style i don't know but i just i know they did it 90s 80s i'm gonna say 90s probably more yeah yeah i've i personally have been feeling well actually not anymore but like the last two months ever since the finale of stranger things came out i've been very big into 80s stuff so i would like to say i think that 80s is very still cool yeah totally especially like the fashion and stuff yeah i think that's a big reason why stranger things was such a good show just in general because they just had like that 80s style and it's just such like a like uh you got just such like a vibe i guess i guess it just like brings like this like
00:09:58
just i feel like almost like this like almost like grittiness a little bit to it just because of the clothes that they're wearing aren't so bright. Yeah. I could see that. No, I got that. Yeah. I think the reason that I was thinking you said quarter zips is because of like, I feel like people that wear the short sleeve with long, whatever. Oh, yeah. I feel like they're very performative. They're performative. Totally. Yeah. And so I associated it with quarter zips. Yeah. And that was the weirdest short little trend. I don't know if you guys have that at your school. Which of a century, because people used to get made fun of for wearing, like, nice clothing.
00:10:37
And then it was, like, the biggest thing, and then you got made fun of for doing it. Yeah. There was, like, there's this kid at my school who, he, like, used to wear, like, just, like, normal clothes. And then, like, all the performative stuff came out, and he, like, he, like, totally leaned into it. He, like, almost always has a quarter zip on and, like, the glasses and all that stuff. So that's just funny to me. but definitely solon kind of latched onto that because i hear people talking a lot about quarter zips a lot like yeah huh yeah i that was this year wasn't it or oh yeah yeah yeah like my teacher wore quarters up one time and everybody was like oh quarters yeah that's funny it's starting to go out though like some like i think one kid commented on it and then like some other kid was like bro like shut up like that so like yeah i haven't seen it as much recently but it definitely had a boom for a while yeah no and my friend she actually like liked matcha before like she would literally order matcha like way before it was even like a thing and she literally she gets made fun of it for it because yeah because everybody's like you're performative you know what you're kind of right yeah i've never had it is matcha out now it should be matcha's matcha's i'd say matcha's still kind of a thing it's like middle i think it's went down from performative so people won't make fun of you as much when you drink it but if you're like genuinely drinking it i think i think it's just always been an average drink yeah people will get i think i hate it when things that i like
00:12:12
become like a trend and then everybody makes a joke out of it and i'm like i've been doing this and it's like you're not niche yes i am yeah shut up is there something that comes to mind when you say that i don't think so i was just thinking about that if something comes to mind all the when I bring it up, though? Yeah. I could kind of speak on that a little bit. I also hate when that happens, but I think that it's important to remember that sometimes... Like I do agree with you but I had a lot of people recently like for example one of my best friends McKenna um she always seems to have an issue when I do something or get something that she already has or I get into something that she already likes so annoying and then she makes it my problem that I am now into it and like so for example um we have very very similar music tastes so then I'll text her i'll be like yo i really like this song like do you have any recommendations from that artist and she'll be like yeah no that's a really good song but like dude you're listening to all the like basic stuff and it's kind of pissing me off that like you're talking to me yeah yeah and i was like okay sorry yeah or like the other day i posted about a song that i really like and some other girl uh responded and was like she literally sent me a paragraph and this is my private story so like so it's like your friends yeah like my friends it's got i think i mean it has my dad on it but
00:13:45
yeah i kind of have to have my dad on it anyway uh she sent me a paragraph and was like dude don't even get me started like you are posting about this song because you're trying to be performative and like you don't even know the artist and like do you know all this do you know that about them and i'm like nope i just i like the song that's a chair that's why i hate the performative thing i I feel like since I was younger, especially, I would like, I would always feel like when I got into stuff, like I wasn't like, like totally into it. So when like all the performative stuff like came to be like popular and people would like make fun of you for like trying to seem like a certain way, it just made me so mad because it was like, there's just some things that I like, but I just don't get like super deep into.
00:14:30
And it's like, yeah. And then off of what you said, when I like talk about a song that I like somebody's like, oh, what do you know about that artist? No, right. Right. Like name ten songs like no Everybody says that. Yeah, it's like you can what you can like a song without knowing their entire Like what's Taylor Swift mother's maiden name? Like I don't know. Yeah And they're gonna call you a fake Swifty if you don't answer that or people will just hate on you for being a taylor swift is just so controversial for no reason but listen i want to hear what did she do wrong i know like i'm not huge on her i listen to certain songs by her obviously but why do we hate her so much is it because she's popular it's her fans it's because her fans are it's not all of her fans but some of her fans are a little bit out there yeah like have you seen the videos of them like looking through all of her stuff and trying to find like secret numbers to when like oh yeah no they'll genuinely like put together like the stupidest or like the craziest stuff well but they're only doing that because she's done that in the past you know she has i don't really remember not trying to hate i'm not i kind of like taylor swift's music like i'm not trying to be like but then there's like some people who are who just bash you for saying anything about it, and then some people who are crazy if you say anything about her being bad.
00:15:58
Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I can't really think of much that she's really done that wrong recently. I mean, her last album was... I don't know if anyone heard that. It wasn't really good. The only thing that kind of pissed me off about the last album was the amount of money that she tried to make from it. like every single day i was seeing because i i follow her account on instagram and it was like every day there was like buy this cd buy this vinyl buy this different colored vinyl and like it was it was just clear that she was trying to make money but when you're that famous why not piggyback off of it you know what i mean but why are we like i don't know it's just kind of an unnecessary amount of merch that comes out oh for sure people go crazy for that i was at like a camp once and this girl it was like right when the eras tour was like coming out and that was super popular and this girl had like a shirt from it and everybody in the cabin was like how did you get that like how did you like blah blah blah because it was like pretty new so but it was just to emerge or i don't i'm pretty sure she got it from like a concert or something and every i wasn't really into it back then so it was kind of like but i remember everybody was making a deal out of it and stuff do you think it's an authenticity thing do you feel like taylor swift has gotten to this place where it feels a little inauthentic or a little is that part of it yeah and i think that with teenagers it's a big deal for you to be like your own person and to like not follow like huge
00:17:28
trends yeah just like trying to be like everybody else goes back to that performative thing i was gonna say yeah i think that's what matches that's definitely like a big thing like in high school right now is that everybody is like trying to be their own person but also still try to be cool so if you're like trying to do things that are cool like people will call you out for it like being performative is kind of like the new like you're a poser like it's totally just become that like yeah that's actually a really good way to put it a good point because people will just like make themselves look like they have a lot of ball knowledge they know ball yeah yeah when really it's just like they're they want people to think that so that they have this persona where they walk around and they think they're still cool but they're not cool yeah yeah i think it's just like a big thing where like there's like a lot of people who at least like at my school like there's a lot of people who like dress the same and act the same and stuff so i think when people try to be different they get a little bit like defensive of them being different i think that's really why people get so mad when their stuff starts to become mainstream because then they they get called being performative for that yeah and it's like something that made them different from the rest of the crowd has become the rest of the crowd yeah so it was like their niche yeah you guys define performative as someone who oh well sorry that a actually deep question yeah kind of i don know i gonna I gotta look it up performative I just think it someone who tries to do things to like fit in or
00:19:11
just cool without actually knowing anything about it something done or expressed insincerely or in often in authentically yeah typically with the intention of impressing others or improving one's own image that's actually exactly what it is yeah because they're just doing all these things to pose to make themselves look yeah in a better way than they actually are yeah i think most people aren't don't have a huge problem with that but i think where like the problem like came in is like the beginning of the trend was like like the feminist literature like the books like that's a part of like the performative thing i think that's where you even see it's a trend like where they like read books in public oh yeah yeah with their quarters in their mouth yeah yeah okay that's like the whole thing and it's like to like i think originally it was like to show that you're like different from other guys you're like a feminist but like as a joke well yeah some of it was as a joke and i think some people like were doing that and i think it like i think performative really came a bad thing is when those people didn't actually like think those things and they did that just to get like girlfriends like i think that's where it like really like started from and then it just became a general insult for anybody who's acting like not their real personality i think they're making fun of people who actually act like that like the trend is making fun of people who like actually act like that yeah because those people aren't doing it to get girlfriends and like to make themselves be more attractive to
00:20:47
women right well i think that's where the problem comes in like i think the trend i think the trend is making fun of it's making fun of people who pretend to act like that like they pretend that that's who they are yeah and i think it's came around and like hurt people who actually like do those things like drink matcha or wear quarter zips like yeah so being authentic still cool definitely so yeah that's like i think that's definitely one of the things i like most about being in high school right now is that it is cool to be yourself like if you can put yourself together in a nice way while still like expressing yourself like that's not making it but not doing too much no yeah that's the problem is that it has to be like this like perfect balance but like some people just like nail it yes that's what i like seeing most at my school not enough people not enough people do no but that's what i like seeing at my school is that the difference from like i guess like when i was in middle school and now that i'm in high school is that like even though like more like weird people like more alternative people still are like treated kindly and even like complimented and stuff by like more normal people yeah if they like for like dressing a certain way for the most part yeah there's some people who get made fun of for it but yeah i think there's a lot more people getting like praised for it like i remember last year in our um yearbook it was like this more alternative girl and she got voted like the best
00:22:19
dress and i was just like wow that's really cool that like people recognize that like she has style even though it's not the mainstream style yeah i like that i they kept telling me that it's going to go a lot faster than i thought it would and i kept just being like yeah sure and it went way faster than i thought it would no i realized that in the car i was like well there's three of us and if we're supposed to talk for 15 minutes that's only like five minutes of us individually talking yeah that made me a lot more calm and excited for this though yeah so what's your what did the mama cow say to the baby cow it feels like yeah i don't know it feels like i was gonna say i don't know it's past your bedtime nobody pasture pasture i don't know what that like i know that's what it is you like go out to pasture right and then there's pasteurization in milk too like there's it's joking multiple levels yeah but what is pasture like past year past your pasture yeah but what like what is pasture oh like this didn't land here i'll give you the official definition so we can all learn something together.
00:23:30
Land covered with grass or other forage plants used for grazing livestock. Okay. So that's yeah. I get it now. Yeah. It was a little too advanced. Erik can do that next time. Erik work on it. Yeah. Well, you know, if they ever come back, they'll be disappointed that you didn't know. I think this re-brand is better. I think this is gone. I don't know if they need to come back. I think our conversation flowed much better than theirs ever will. I think we also related to younger audiences. Yep. Yeah. Actually, that's a really good point because i might get canceled for this but i haven't watched a whole lot of this podcast and it's mainly not only just because i don't really find podcasts it's mainly because i don't like listen to podcasts yeah like i just it's hard i'm there is video for this one but like most podcasts are just listening yeah i can't do that but it's because this one talks about like 40 year old dad problems and it's like a 45 year old and i'm not listening to my dad talk about Morningwood.
00:24:26
Yeah. That's a really good point. It's so performative. It is very performative. They are so performative. They're just looking for clout. They're trying their best. Yeah. I think they are. Yeah. We're still cool, right? Podcast is performative. I think that's what... But wouldn't that mean that it's not cool? Yeah. And at the end of the day, are they still cool? All right, guys. Well, thanks for tuning into the rebrand, but we do have to get back to the OGs now. Okay. Maybe we'll come back if we go to the Patreon. we get enough attention on this they should do that I think if this one does well that they should bring us on maybe they'll pay you next time yeah we should have been here go share with your friends pretty cool podcast I'd say like and subscribe and subscribe to our Patreon and maybe we'll be back catch you next time on the We're So Cool Podcast Thank you.
