welcome to we're still cool right the weekly podcast where the conversation flows smoother than top shelf whiskey and cool well it never really left grab a drink and hang out with eric mike and sean while they dive into nostalgia and attempt to answer the age-old question we're still cool right We are live! That's right, baby! I knew all week I had to say that. And they just did on the UFC. It was Bruce Buffer's 30th anniversary. That one's for you, Bruce. That would be great if you had his voice. Fuck off.
00:00:45
I know. The one with the most woman voice. We are live! With that being said, we are back and we are live. We are. My name is Shaun. I'm Mike. And I'm Erik. And this is the We're Still Cool Right Podcast with a special guest today. Who do we got, Mike? We have, God, should I do the whole thing I did last time? You know, I'm actually going to get it right this time. He's a father. He's a husband. He's the drummer of your favorite band, the Poor Tornadoes. He's a graduate of Xavier High School, not Regis, because I fucked that up last time. But Regis is better. Mike Schulte's in the house, so thanks for being here, brother.
00:01:18
Did you say author? Yeah. Oh, fuck. Yeah, I even bought that. No, man, we can't keep up with the shit you got going on, all right? You're like Tiger Woods up at the T here. Best-selling author. Best-selling, maybe not so much. We did raise some money. Yeah, we raised some money for Cedar Valley Humane Society, so that was all the matter. I will say you're the best-selling author at this table. That's true. The only one's very true. You wait until I put mine out. It's going to be a coffee table book. Is it? Yeah. Me and short shorts. Got me excited here for it. But with Mike joining us, obviously, we've got to do a cocktail.
00:01:52
meal. We can do a cocktail every time, but we have a rerun. Well, we made a hell of a batch of it. So this is still from last time. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just had the Kool-Aid pitcher in the fridge. We just had some fresh limes to really spruce it. I almost got like a nice fancy glass pitcher, but I was like, you know what? This is perfect for us. This is way better. It looks like Kool-Aid. Yeah. It's the nostalgia pitcher. And it, you know, maybe it was a puke bucket. Maybe it was a popcorn bucket. You know, we don't know. Ice tea lemonade is this from your childhood? It's some it's a staple in our household. Yeah, like it's all the things it's been clear Kool-Aid to always a party Use here, so I remember there's a kid the first time I found out like like you get popcorn in that bucket You're like wait a minute. I've thrown up in that multiple times We wash it. I'm like still just doesn't seem kosher man I don't want to do that. Oh, too many people know that right now are thinking about their bucket that they had went oh shit Yeah, every house had one I'm glad you brought the pork to whiskey back because that's been like a huge staple.
00:02:49
When we partnered with Cedar Ridge, the pork tornadoes, they wanted to make an easy to make crushable whiskey drink that we could take with us to essentially all the venues we play at. And it would be easier for like their bartenders in Omaha to make it. And we went out there one day and just like for like three hours tried different concoctions of drinks that they were making. Oh, darn. And I think we eventually came back to the first one. Like, I think this was the first ingredients they gave us. We're like, I don't know. Keep going. And then we're like, first one was the best. Yeah. And it's definitely good.
00:03:20
But this drink is brought to us by Benz. Yes. Sponsored by Benz Beverage Depot. So I was going to say, Mike, we were looking it up just to remember the ratios in the recipe. So I typed it into Google. I was like, what's the recipe for the pork Twisky? Was it in there? It's our social media post. Gemini finds our Facebook page to tell the recipe. Okay, then here's what we'll do when we go to a new venue. We'll just send them your video. Make this. You had me at hello. When we go to Kansas City and see Caten here on April 4th at Knuckleheads, we'll just give that recipe video to the bartenders.
00:03:54
That's what we're talking about. Like you said, though, it's so easy to make. And it's fucking delicious. We went heavy, so the whole bottle of Cedar Ridge is in there. You got to use the regular bourbon. Yeah. 86 bourbon. And then what is it? Sprite, lemonade, and a little bit of grenadine. You got it. It is. And we tried it, and we were like, it's a little boozy. We went too light on the Sprite, so Erik's palate fixed that for us. So, yeah, because we were doing some mic checks, and Erik's like, why don't you guys go batch the cocktail? We're like, okay. He left us in charge. It's a terrible idea.
00:04:25
Well, it starts with the whole bottle of whiskey, and we're like, this is going to be great from there. It's going to be awesome. Perfect. Now we go. So that's why it's sitting here empty for you guys to see and to know, but really that's it. And then we had a little slower start, so Shaun already put one down. Yes. Oh, wow. Oh, I'm way behind. Hold on. Sorry. Yeah. I did want to mention, too, before we get into this, that we are promoting the Pork Tornado Show here coming up this Saturday at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse. I did bring four GA tickets to add to your pile of giveaways. So four tickets to give away for anybody that essentially, what, comments on this?
00:05:01
Yeah. So Logan is starting to – there's a Google Doc. If you guys – in the comments, you'll see that there. Just click on that link, add your name. We have those to give away. we've got uh some other gift cards and stuff that i'm gonna get into and then we've got a really really special gift that eric's gonna show at some point so we share this one Benz Beverage Depot oh come on can i enter yes you definitely can molly molly enter it so we got a bottle of well or foolproof store pick from ben's uh lord matt matt from ben's gave us this he went down to buffalo trees and picked this out with freddie if you're into bourbon and you know this stuff freddie is like a legend down there uh his whole family's been in the into bourbon and stuff and they went down and picked it out with him and matt just he was like hey let me go in the back and see what i got to give away so what's the uh retail on that uh are we not allowed to say you want secondary or do you want well so i don't know how much you offer here essentially this is a single barrel bottle so it's not really available anymore ben's had some for sale and he just had a couple Matt had a couple that he held back yeah um so it's not really for sale but if I would assume retail on this would probably be around $100 $120 so you can win it and then you can sell it is what you're saying absolutely you can and you can sell it to us we will buy it yeah we'll buy it but when Erik brought it out I was like okay let's just give away $100 and keep this like what are we doing here so you're lucky we love you yeah I haven't even tried this one I would love to so yeah
00:06:32
so I would say do you want to say that that one that bottle is going to be given to a Patreon member. So we are going to run, put your name in that Google Doc, and we are going to, well, no, never mind. Anyone that signed up for Patreon, we are going to draw Friday at noon for that bottle. So anyone who's a Patreon member. To be clear, we have other giveaways that will just be in the comments, but this one, obviously, at the level that it is, this is going to our Patreon. So you got to Friday. So you can get in, sign in, become a Patreon member, and we're going to draw for that one. And if you win and want to share it, that's great.
00:07:02
I'll take a little bit of it. so yeah but just for that being clear amazing thank you to ben's this is what we talk about when we say how good they are to us that when we show up and ask for something that's what they deliver so i mean um it's an incredible place it is it is it's it's 501 7th avenue he's got it down now he's never going to forget the address and uh yeah they're just amazing there So thank you to them and thank you to everyone that goes by. And please tell the boys that you heard from us to stop by. So just let them know how much we appreciate that. Yeah. So we got a lot of stuff to get into.
00:07:44
I don't even know where to start. Before you guys get too far ahead, because we are live. We are. Even though you guys aren't directly engaging with the audience just yet, there's a couple of comments I want to throw out at you guys. Please, please. I'm terrified right now. Damn, Shaun, you're still alive. I hope it's making fun of Erik's coat. All of them are about that. There are a lot of comments about the coat. I mean, it's our first live episode. You gotta get dressed up a little bit. You could have told us, Dick. One of the comments I pulled was, yeah, I feel like the other three didn't get the dress code.
00:08:15
Sorry, guys. So people are with you on that. Or the one. Or, Erik took the life of a 70s couch for that jacket. Yeah. I feel like you run a brothel. Shout out, should be committed, said drinking hours out of some Benz Beer Fest glasses. Oh, that's Jody. Jody and Nathan, yeah. Which I believe you guys might be there in the future. We will. We will be. We will be at the Beer Fest. Yes, we will be at the Beer Fest. We will have our own tent. We will probably be doing a live podcast from the Beer Fest and a lot more fun stuff to come around that. Two more good ones here. Zach says he's having a bit of Confused Breakfast American Single Malt.
00:08:56
Oh, damn. All right, is that you said Zach yeah? Yeah, yeah awesome, and then I'm not sure who this is But they said dad and Shaun look at they're on a date. Oh He's hyper 87 mother fuck it's my son We'll keep the comments go Read them later right oh for sure yeah, we just we knew if we saw them constantly we'd never talk That's awesome. And just to respond to this comment, they don't let me be on camera. Oh, yeah. I have to hide in the corner here. We want you on camera. Some people were meant to be in front of the camera. Some people were meant to be produced. I do have a voice for radio.
00:09:42
I don't know why the hell I'm in front of the camera. I know our friend Wade's out there watching, and he needs a bald spot cam or something. Oh, yeah. Wade's got one that's right behind him. And it's called the bald spot cam. Amazing. I mean, you've got to lean into it at our age. Do we want to do an Underberg? Oh, Underberg? I mean, they're here. Mike's never had one. I don't think Logan's ever had one. I don't know what this is. Did you give him one? I did. He's got it over there. I'll talk about it while you guys drink it, and then I'll have mine. What do you do? Do you take the paper off? Rip the top of the paper off.
00:10:17
It's like you're drinking a Mini 40. Keep the lid. Keep the caps for me. Because the lids, so they, the company, you could turn the lids in for like special merch. I'm really, I'm donating them to our friend Clint Wheatley so he can hopefully get a bandolier at some point. Yeah, and it takes like a lot of cap, so you gotta, you definitely gotta get it. So just jerk this bottle off in my mouth? You gotta jerk it off. It doesn't come out easily. You guys are really cool.
00:10:43
You hear that, kids? It takes a real cool, you gotta be super cool to do this live, so yeah. It's true. This will help the beverages and food go down later. Yeah, and if you haven't shared the live, please do, because everyone wants to see us jerk off a mini bottle. Right.
00:10:59
Oh, the noise is so horrible. That's terrible. I agree. So, like, I get... Okay, listen, I've heard you talk about it, and I do agree that, like, an hour later, I'm happy I drank it. Yeah, you'll be happy about it. The episode, you're going to be like... The drinking of it. I have this cool thought in my mind. So my wife and I have been to St. John, Virgin Islands like 12 times. It's our place to go. And one night, one of the greatest nights of my entire life, you know when just everything's perfect and the breeze is perfect and the day was perfect, they gave us a Ferrari, which is Fernet and Campari mixed together.
00:11:40
And it's not good. Right. It's not. But my brain tells me it's good because of the moment that I was in. Right. So if somebody's like, you want a Ferrari? yeah yeah and then i'll drink it and i'll go god that's terrible it's not the same when you're on the beach with the sun setting with your beautiful wife you're upstairs at the you know what this place called the bowery and it's just the most beautiful moment of my entire life followed by the worst drink of it that is that is the ultimate palate wrecker it's just like bitter on top of bitter it's too much man like with the coolest name well what did we eight days yeah yeah what's My drink the Ferrari be like fuck. Yeah, when I would take three of them without even give me the yes Yeah, we had digestives at a what was that place in Chicago with the best goddamn burrata we've ever had Oh, yeah, we went to Yeah, I can't remember the name of it A whole menu of them and we all tried different ones and agreed in the moment I'm like wasn't a fan and 30 minutes later. It's like I'm really glad I did that Have you guys done Negroni's on the show yet? Not yet. Have you ever had a Negroni? Yeah, so why it was on an old I was watching and it was like an old Prohibition type drink It's gin Campari and then Sweet vermouth The idea of it sounds incredible I'm like oh these cool people Drinking migranies And then you make it and you're like And then you try it again and you're like Maybe the 12th time I'll like it I do want like a real bartender to make me one Because there is a difference
00:13:10
When I go to Cedar Ridge they make an old fashioned that I'm like this is what an old fashioned is and then I go home with the exact same ingredients and do the exact same thing that they do and it never tastes the same I've always said that is the best old fashioned I've had like hands down so I've tried making them and it's never the same have you had one of the box smoked ones no I have a smoker at home do you have one of those? I had one the other day where it like showed up in a box she's like if you like it's smoky just let it sit there for a little bit and I'm like i'm like but i'm thirsty so you know i can't wait you gotta be patient it was fucking awesome you know but at the same time like there is a difference when you get to a place that knows how to make cocktails and one that's just pouring cocktails and i respect both of them because it's like what lane are you in are you in the one where like i'm going to be comfortable with being they're like you know it's 17 and like sounds good you know i mean or are you gonna be the other ones where it's like no i just want you know yeah give me the give me the basics basics you know what i i was thinking about the other day though you know how we've we've all done this everyone listening has done this you've gone somewhere and you've asked a bartender you sat down you'd be like how's your old fashions oh god yeah and it's such a stupid question to ask because they're not gonna say it tastes like shit and they all legitimately think it's good i remember that when i was like 19 i worked at a bar and they're like how some guy said how's your old fashions like it's really good and i started muddling cherries and shit like that like no of course it wasn't good yeah But it's such a dumb question to ask.
00:14:39
Oh, yeah. Yeah. In some places, you can look at what they have behind the bar and know that it's not going to happen. Or watch them make one first. Yeah. I want to watch you make that first. If you don't have bitters sitting behind the bar, like you don't have a bottle of a cigar or something. Accessible bitters. Yeah. No. We were at one the other night. We were all together. And I was talking to Ashley. I'm like, we should go. She's like, I don't know. Do we need to go out? go again i'm like let's go meet the boys come on she's like you know i did see this one you know old-fashioned i'd like to try i'm like that's where we're going and she's like texting these two and they're like hell yeah they got this you know like make sure we get down there and it was terrible don't name this now it's so horrible was it in cedar rapid city limits it was it was very much so um it's such a sweet place i'm not going to say where we're at because they do everything else so well that apple boots I'll say it it wasn't eating good in the neighborhood I'll tell you that much but it was one of those things where like that same thing and I'm like looking at her going shit you know what I mean because I like didn't quite go to that link so a local pub will just I mean they don't some of them don't have bitters they're like an old fashioned is just you know sugar because they don't even have simple syrup yeah exactly but that's whiskey so I said that I'm like well just show her like what it was and she shows she's like we don't have that we don't have that yeah she's like just throw some more of this and it won be good because she if you don have good simple syrup yeah not just like the basic bar simple syrup and good whiskey it gonna fail like no matter what it going to fail I know people dog on Applebee and Chili and stuff like that chain restaurants
00:16:23
But here's the best part about those restaurants. Every drink you get, every food item you get, will taste the same every time you go there. And that is why I love places like Chili's. I worked at Chili's back in the day. Did anybody else work there? I feel like you did. No, I never did restaurant. My son started eating there, likes it within the last couple of years, and I'm like, I forgot. The only thing I get there every time is their honey Chipotle chicken crispers. I'll still eat them any time. And guess what? You can go there in 10 years. It's going to taste the same. Taste the same. I always get the finitos.
00:16:57
Kathy would be so pissed off. Oh, Kathy would be so pissed right now. Yeah. Speaking of that, there's a movie, The Chef or whatever, that's got- The Chef? Maybe it's not The Chef. It's The Bear? The Bear? Who's on the show? Yeah. I was thinking about that. That's different. Do you know what the Jon Favreau one? No, Bradley Cooper's in it. Okay, yeah. I think it is the chef. I think it's something like that, but one of the parts of it, he goes to Burger King. You know what I mean? He invites one of the other chefs that he wants to work with him, and she's like, what are you doing here? He's like, you don't like it because it's consistent.
00:17:32
Yeah. You know what I mean? Yes. Because it's always going to taste like this. The danger is not there. There's no danger in going and getting a bad meal. It's always this. Yeah. We have a buddy who is a chef and his favorite food is a chicken sandwich from Quickstar. And he's like, you guys gotta remember, I cook this shit all day. I want just normal run of the mill, but it's always good and it's always the same. And I'm like, that makes sense. It's like the guy that works for a landscaping company, you go home and his grass is out of control. Of course.
00:18:01
My windows are dirty until people show up and then it's like, we're having a party in that bay. There we go. You know, I like that. I'll never walk into your window. there you go it's funny one of our one of our friends that is part of the fun not fancy his favorite chicken sandwich that's what i'm talking about burger king oh i'm talking about tim the long one yeah the original chicken sandwich it's like it's like your school lunch chicken that has tasted the same since 1991 you used to get two for two bucks or something like that and it was like that's one of the most incredible sandwiches as i've ever had yeah yeah so i'll tell you yeah there you go chaps my ass is the fucking price of goddamn fast food down calm down i know i know me too yeah it does only when it's like i just need a fish price like i know i'm eating a chicken sandwich that looks like this that's not what it fucking looks like i just wanted to be cheap because oh yeah yeah buying it for cheap yeah i have to ask i'm terrified because what what were you dying laughing at a couple minutes ago where you were keeled back in your fucking chair It was this comment that says My son says morning wood is not cool Because when you sleep on your stomach it hurts when you get up Jesus Christ It feels better when you get up It's like a kickstand at that point You can do one cock push up that's it One's all you need Was that Tenacious D?
00:19:16
Yeah Speaking of Kyle Gass Did you know he was in the Cable Guy We just did the Cable Guy on Confused Breakfast No I didn't know Kyle Gass is at the very end when when he falls on the satellite and everybody's watching TV and it goes out, Kyle Gass just decides to pick up a book. He just picks up a book and starts reading it. It's like a three-second cameo at the very end. No, I had no idea. Again, most people hate that movie. I loved it. Well, let me spread some love, Confused Breakfast style about Cable Gass. Please, yeah. You guys are probably like me, where when that movie came out, we had seen Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, When Nature Calls, and we're like, Jim Carrey.
00:19:55
And you remember the trailer? The trailer was hilarious. It was like, wow, wacky cable guys coming in. It's going to be awesome. Right. And then we went and saw the movie and we're like, what? This is not for me. It's dark. Yeah. And it got a bad rap, too, because we found this out that it actually made like $60 million profit. But everybody called it a flop. It was a fake media ploy from all the other movie studios because Jim Carrey was paid $20 million for that role. The most by far. Was he the first that ever hit that $20 million mark? The most somebody had ever made was like $10 million. Is that still the mark?
00:20:31
The $20 million mark? I think people made more than that now. But RDJ has. These other studios wanted it to be a flop so bad so that they could say that you should never pay an actor that much money. That wasn't the standard to the go. But it was actually like the movie did really well. We just didn't like it. We didn't get it at the time. But if you go back and watch it now, it's better than you remember. They should have promoted it differently. is all it really comes down to. And I will say, I remember just thinking about it, going instantly, I went to Ace Ventura when he was the UPS guy. That part of it.
00:21:10
He's going to do that as a cable guy. You know what I mean? And that's going to be... Because I thought that was one of the best parts in Ace Ventura. I'm like, that's going to be the whole movie. Kicking the boxes. He's going to be doing all that kind of shit. And then all of a sudden, it wasn't... We did talk about that. I think maybe you guys know this. Jim Carrey in one calendar year did Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. In 1994. Jesus. Just a rocket ship. Filmed or released, I guess. Released. So maybe he started in 90s. But still, what a psycho. He was on set the entire, more than a year.
00:21:46
And this is pre-internet, so all of us are just talking about these movies via hearsay. Did you see Ace Ventura? I'm bringing it over. I'm renting it. I'm bringing it to your house. It was the era of when you had to know a friend who knew something. I miss that, man. We've talked about how superstitions or urban legends start. Marilyn Manson removed his rib. He did. But it's like there was no internet. That spread through America. If your older cousin told you that, through telephone. Somebody told you you read the movie theater, you saw a poster, whatever. Yeah, you saw it. You could see it and put your hands on it.
00:22:20
Yeah. Jim Carrey, he's going to go down as one of the greatest actors in the history of time when he's done. I mean, he's kind of done and hung it up. He doesn't need any more money, but Jim, if we had not gotten Cable Guy, then we would have never gotten Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and everything that he did beyond that because he was so pigeonholed. He needed one role to just be like, I'm really good. I'm very talented. Kind of good at all of this. So I wanted to bring something up with Confused Breakfast. Before I do that, again, just reminding people to please sign up for the Google form because we're going to give some stuff away at the end and I want to make sure everyone gets a shot at it so we have some cool stuff but confused breakfast we have talked about uh things that we thought would be a bigger deal as a kid quicksand piranhas dude i watched your guys's episode on rookie of the year okay dude when he gets stuck between the adjoining doors the hotel room i remember his kid being like oh fuck i'm never going in one of those like it scared the fuck out of me and i forgot about it until you guys brought it up daniel stern yeah caught in between the doors is like is one of the more viral videos we ever made because so many people So many people have that irrational fear.
00:23:23
Yeah. But I forgot about it until you guys brought it up. It was like I had finally laid it to rest, and now it's there again. That was a live podcast in Chicago that we did for Rookie of the Year in Chicago with the Cubs. Of course, we have to, right? Yeah. And we talked about how most people don't know that Daniel Stern directed that movie. Really? Okay. Daniel Stern directed Rookie of the Year. And he realized about halfway through that he needed to write himself out of the movie in order to be able to concentrate on directing it. So that's why he keeps getting locked. He got locked into the chain.
00:23:55
That's right. So he's like around, but he's not. He's always part of it, but not throughout the whole. But he could film in an hour. When the baseball scenes were happening, he was locked in the thing. So he couldn't be on screen, so he could actually be directing. So he's all part of the setup and never part of the actual event. That's fucking awesome. He's incredible. Another thing that just came up of things you thought would have been a bigger deal when you got older was we did There's Something About Mary. Did you ever think about getting your dick stuck in a zipper? How'd you get the beans above the frink?
00:24:25
That's the only quote from that movie I've said until this day. I just said it the other day to somebody. Oh, it's you! In the bathroom. He pushed me at the earloin. I was like, I got piss all over me. And then he went in there and was laughing his ass on me. Oh, I got the beans above the frink. Bigger problems. That being said, I'm pretty sure we did not mention this in the beginning, but you are one third of the confused breakfast and he left out a couple things yeah you have so much going he said the most important first and that is father exactly he said that husband yeah yeah confused breakfast uh we talked about it a little bit last time is it's a podcast that was spurned out of boredom of covid yeah and just wanting to have something that could be viral and could be like worldwide it's something to do like come on like literally something to do what you like and you just want to talk about it like the same thing you guys are doing is you you're having conversations going, you know what?
00:25:17
We like having these conversations. I wonder if other people would like to hear that. I wonder if other people have had these same conversations. And so we said, we started saying, well, people probably talk about movies like this, right? All the time. And so as we put it out, people were just loving the fact that we're rehashing old movies. And it just, like, there it is, man. Five and a half years later, here we are. I just love how nostalgic it is like yeah it's so god i feel like a kid again that's what i'm saying so if i was going to start right now um anybody listening just go to their just go to their i mean they're everywhere you can get confused breakfast on any yeah wherever you get your podcast from but go through all their episodes and just find a movie you like that you that you would consider that it's one of your favorite because they they put them right on there so you know what they're going to talk about and then you get the full buy-in of it and you'll get to really see like where you compare your feelings with it with theirs and you guys find there's so much behind the scenes stuff yeah you learned stuff about it you learned all kinds of you know things that you guys do and you got three different opinions and you see kind of where you fit in with it and if it's a movie that you really like you're super you know vested like you are protective of it which is what you are because fuck mike he doesn't understand what i i i was listening and i'm like there's no fucking way that's right and so i have to go watch it myself to like prove it like i'm gonna go watch fucking cable man again just to be like fuck it wasn't that man how did i miss that i hope you search
00:26:48
cable man and see how close you get well you kind of sight you're on yeah i won't give it away but on cable guy we pose and we try to like try to be interesting like we're not just gonna be like here's the camera angle of this one over here so we pose the theory that actually uh steven is actually the bad guy in this. That cable guy, Chip Douglas. He's actually literally trying to help Stephen become a better person and Stephen refuses. So we're going to hit that one. Also, I forgot. That's what drove people so nuts about that movie. They're like, I can't stand the way he talks. I'm like, no one can. That's part of the thing.
00:27:23
Exactly. It's dark and goofy. He's the fucking cable guy. Yeah. There's not a lot going on there. We just hit 250 full-blown movie reviews. We're at like 450 total episodes. So chances are we've done some movie that you really love. Mostly 80s, 90s. We were talking, and I went to your website the other day and went through the whole. I'm like, they've fucking done so many movies. I've got to ask about one. I'm pretty sure you've done it, but I haven't fact-checked this. Goonies. Of course. Somebody here hasn't seen the Goonies. Really? and that's okay. But once you argue that, I think it's unacceptable.
00:28:03
No, no, no, no. Because I guarantee you... You want to talk about my childhood, Erik? Let's do this. There's an episode on Deck Diaries. Go listen. It's a great episode. Thanks, man. I guarantee you everyone in this room has a movie that they have not seen that 90% of the public has seen. Yeah. I'll just start us off. Yeah, what's yours? I've never seen The Godfather. Oh, really? I've never watched The Godfather. Damn. For a movie guy like you, It was a long time before I saw it too. But that's consistently the top 10 of everything. Correct. That's one of the top 10 movies ever made. I've never seen it.
00:28:36
Mine all got exposed on our movie bracket. Did it? Yes. Or on our sports movie. Well, yeah, Erik has seen two sports movies. Yet he's got the fucking balls of hope. And the most controversial of all being Rounders. Rounders is so good, man. We did Rounders. You probably listened to that episode, right? Yeah, and you guys just talked about the most rewatchable movies. Rounders is my number one. I loved it that much. So The Goonies, to me, is one of the most important films in history because it proved that with the right child actors in place, you can create the perfect movie of adventure that parents and kids can all adapt to.
00:29:14
Because prior to that, I really don't believe that child actors were any good. And I also believe that not many child actors since then have been great. But you see what happens with like Stranger Things. now granted they all grew up and some of them were terrible guys for season 5 some of them were terrible but as cute kids they were incredible without the Goonies you don't have this the first time I saw that movie I was like this is unreal this is what I want to do with my friends this is like I want to save my neighborhood and I want to save my parents and I want to go on an adventure and that movie captivated me Absolutely.
00:29:54
And so then to be able to go in 2022, we were in Mikey's house for an entire day. It's on YouTube. We had to spend the day in Mikey's house as one of the most pivotal movies of my childhood. It was like, how? That's unbelievable. How do you do these things? Yeah. Like, I'm trying to check things off in my box that someday when I'm in my deathbed, I'm like, pretty good. Pretty good run, man. Okay, fine. I'll fucking watch the movie. That all started from being bored during fucking COVID, pretty much. It's literally all of us. The pork tornadoes canceled like 35 shows in 2020, and I didn't have kids.
00:30:30
Yeah. And eventually, I was like, I need to do something. Yeah. And if you know anything about him, he does a million things, so he can't fucking sit still. So I can imagine. Not anymore. Then I had kids, and now I'm saying no to everything. Yeah. Sure. Well, your kids take up all that time, too. Like, you have no, still don't have any downtime. It's just filled with other things. Just make sure that, like, listen, the one thing I learned being a late dad in life was that you can always make more money. You can always work harder later on. You'll never get the time spent at home between school and bedtime.
00:31:02
You'll never get that back. And so I'm trying my best to literally, no matter what, no matter how hard I work during the day, no matter how hard I got to work from 8 p.m. on 4 to 7. Like, you got to make sure those are time. And you talked about time. And we've touched on this before. Like that's why people who listen to our podcast and people who listen to confused breakfast, it means so much. Cause it's like, I know I only have so much time to listen to certain podcasts. Right. So like there's five where I make sure I listen to them every week. Yes. But like, it means a lot for someone to give you their time.
00:31:33
That's so much more than anything else. I do want to tell you guys that like, uh, with, with all the podcasts in the world, I truly believe that podcasts were started as a medium for the average Joe to have their voice heard. Yeah. And then we lost our way a bit. Like once every celebrity known to man could just start one and 10 million downloads on episode one. Yeah. The world lost its way because now it's so saturated. Yeah. But I only listen to like four podcasts and they are all local and you guys are one of them. Because I would rather hear what my friends locally have to say than what any celebrity has to say about anything.
00:32:12
And I hope your audience feels the same way because like you guys are more in touch with anything than anyone else is. Yeah. Well, and I argue when you get into some of those celebrity ones, you almost start getting too much of that celebrity. You know what I mean? Yeah. That's how I felt. I like the veil of status. I really liked it but then yeah It kind of like Don meet your heroes Well we talked a little bit about you know leave a little mystery We don need to see the nipple Don pull them out right away I watched Prodre Let leave a little mystery It's okay. And I get that same way, too. You can flash me every now and then, but not all the time.
00:32:43
I'm really happy with the celebrity ones just consuming some clips. I'm good with that. That's how I do it. That's how I do that. Yeah, if I run across one, that's great. And some of them are entertaining, but it's like I'm not going to watch the whole episode. And every celebrity-driven podcast is revenue-based. Who cares? How many people are listening? How much money are we going to make? Change our format to make sure we're making the most money. Where the reason you guys started this was for the love of it. It was just so, because we're sitting at a bar. Or when we go out and hang out, a lot of people laugh.
00:33:14
So it's like, we've had people tell us, you guys should start this. And don't ever lose that passion. Because I met with a friend locally who wants to start one up. And I was like, the minute you think you're getting in this for ratings and this many people and this many, do not. That's not what it's about. Because it'll all change. And you're going to hate it. You're going to look at it and go, oh, nobody likes us. And at some point, yeah, eventually maybe the passion will die out because you're putting in so much time. But I sent you the graph of our numbers, and you can't even read for the first seven months.
00:33:50
It's like, did you get any downloads? It's like, it's there. it's like it's right down here borrow my magnifying glass yeah and then you know you you either get lucky or you don't care yeah like that's that's just how it is yeah yeah yep and i yeah i i've been really happy with like we've just had regular growth it's not super fast it's not viral it's not like an explosion but i mean i can say a year ago we had our closest 15 friends listening yeah and now we have like 90 plus on each platform so that's great like i love that we it's big for us we're reaching out to new people and it's also been we still love doing it and people come up and say something to us and they're like hey we'd love to hear it and it's like okay cool because we still like to do it i've said multiple times this is my therapy now yeah i just i need i need to like talk with them and get shit off my and just riff and i'm good well logan here at the incredible Upload Media Group, the greatest man in podcast known to man.
00:34:50
If you want to do a podcast, you just need to do it. You son of a bitch. The true puppet master. I love it. One day he told me, he's like, well, what are you focusing on? I'm like, we got to get all these new people in. He's like, well, how about you focus on the people that listen to you every week? They should be the most important people to you no matter what. It shouldn't be for the, hey, new listener. No. Like, hey, people that have been here for 50 episodes. Yes. Welcome back. Good to see you. You know, because like that's really the people. The people that are tuning into this Facebook Live right now are your people.
00:35:24
Yeah. You should be speaking to them. Shout out to you guys. We're live, baby. We should probably check in with Logan if there's a couple comments. But I do want to give a couple quick shout outs because we do have. Pass me that glass. Oh, yeah. And I'm sorry. I'm just talking. No, buddy, you're good. So because we were talking about Rookie of the Year brought up baseball. Our buddy, Matt, who has been on the show before. Matt Carlton. Yep, it's Carlton. Local GM or local Quintons. They are having their big event of the year, which is opening day for baseball. And so they are giving away two $20 gift cards tonight to Quintons.
00:35:56
And just a quick rundown to that event. It will be on 326. He told me today also it's a sweet 16. So it's going to be just sports overload. But it's opening day for baseball. They open at 11. Cubs play at 120. All day happy hour. Half price drinks on almost everything. $3 tall boys. but the giveaways they're giving away giveaways all day 7g is giving away a gift card to your favorite team so if you are a cubs fan like the good people are uh they are giving away it you could go toward tickets toward merch there's lots beyond that it's sponsored by uh exile brewing and our friends at toppling goliath and uh one other thing oh free edgewood locker hot dogs with your purchases all day long so nice can't beat it i will be there taking the day off you can enter to Win that. You can enter to win four Pork Tornadoes GA tickets to the Lion Energy Powerhouse on the 28th.
00:36:43
Yes, sir. Tons of prizes. I also might as well say this, then. What do you got? Well, we stopped at Cliff's earlier, and I was like, you know what? Let's give away a bottle of apple pie. So I picked one of these up. We're also going to give that away. Get at Cliff's homemade apple pie. It's delicious. We play darts, and if we're playing 0-1 and you shoot nine or less, you have to buy a round of shots. Speaking of Cliff's, Sapadapiso, parade Tuesday, March 17th. They're opening at like 7 a.m. with like Wild Net playing and food and Z102.9 is broadcasting live from there. Greatest day of the entire year.
00:37:19
It is. Yep. Very good. Oh, and lastly, I'm also giving away $20. Yeah, dude. Shut up. I know. We're also giving away $20 on a Saturday. Field Day gift card to our friends in North Liberty, so sign into the Google form. Lots of good ways. Win you something. But a couple of quick legal things. You do have to be 21 or older to win any alcohol-based prizes. There's no fee to enter to win. There's not. There's really important things you have to say out loud. God, you didn't tell us there was legalities. We just got to do whatever we wanted. Thank you. No fee, and you have to be old enough. You've got to come to Mike's house, and he'll check your ID.
00:37:55
So with that being said, we're going to jump into a Still Cool, and I can tell you, fucking reading that stuff is not cool at all, Logan. But anyways. You bastard. But let's jump into it. say you want to start this is that's where we're at do you i mean we got mike we gotta go to all right is karaoke still cool okay so we're just talking about cable guy but i also want to know how i'm assuming you've done karaoke and then i want to know like what is if you do what's your go-to song yes uh so yes karaoke is is i've done it before not very often when i do it i'm there whenever i'm not playing i'm not there to perform sure so whenever we go to a show and somebody's come on up i'm like no yeah right no okay so i do not like to karaoke unless i've really had a few and i'm like and they need some help let's say the room needs some help yeah yeah and i will i will either do one of the many hip-hop songs that i perform with the pork tornadoes yes because i know them all by heart gangsters just a friend whatever yeah uh but for a while there i was doing total eclipse of the heart but the dan band version hell way better okay yeah annoying i'm sure just the worst but yelling as loud as i can oh i actually got to meet the dan band they performed at adventureland oktoberfest really uh before us they played before us and dude was cooler and shit he seems cool as shit because he that was what was that wedding crashers he was in a ton of movies he got spotted by somebody in that crew playing a wedding like that was their thing they
00:39:25
played weddings and they they got raunchy on it yeah i remember when the very first one when he said that like instant laugh then i'm like oh i'm fucking up now like it was it was the most instant laugh like that's great coming yeah so i assume that i'm so funny and i'll get laughs and i probably did it yeah fair but you want to know if it's still cool yeah i believe that it is cool only based on what you're willing to give to it sure if you are that person there are you're out there if you're that person that goes that's like i'm going to be the best singer in here i'm going on american and i'm going to go on american idol tomorrow there is a there's a major difference between being good at singing karaoke and being a good singer yes and some some people need to hear this okay and i don't i don't mean this but uh being good at karaoke is not being a good singer right yeah yeah it's owning the moment it's just because you know the same stevie Nick song and you fucking do it well.
00:40:28
I love her, though. She ain't walking in. She'd be like, there you are, girl. It's the guy at the pickup basketball game that thinks the scouts in the crowd. Exactly. It's the same fucking thing. They aren't there. Yes. So I have this... We've talked about this. Mental... Yeah. You've never done it. And I want to say quick, we actually went out to Red Lion for karaoke recently with Tab and Meg from The Deck Diaries. I didn't sing, but it's always fun to watch. it's it's a it's a show it's fun it's better than tvs like i want to see experience but yeah um you know it's it should be funny yeah my block is i don't want to sound like bad to the level where like your ears are bleeding like some people i hear them sing and i'm like oh my god please stop not they don't know yeah and they don't know and that's okay like i i don't hate it because it's karaoke and they're having fun right but i'm like i don't want to hear any more of this i don't want to be that person but i'm not trying to win american yes like i'm this like in between and i get in my fucking head about it you pair something simple eric is range eric is so much in his head that i just want to i don't know i just want to drag him up there and just make him do it because yeah it's not going to be horrible and the other part that you miss is like sometimes horrible people you look up there they're having a fucking blast you're going It's supposed to be fun.
00:41:48
I'm so jealous of people like Todd, our friend Todd. He was like, you know, he just went for it. And he's like, he didn't give a shit. He doesn't care how he's done. Damn, I was gone before that. I didn't know he sang. It was on Snapchat. Dude, I got up there and my fucking dyslexia kicking in with the fucking music going around. Ashley's singing next to me. I can't keep up with what's going on. Oh, yeah. But I said to you, I don't know this. I mean, I know the watermelon crawl, like the main part. But don't get me in the middle. She's like, I got you, baby. I'll carry you. Most people, it hits the riff, and you're like, oh, they're back now.
00:42:20
Yeah. Well, I'm sitting in there. Fuck. Yeah, that's going on. Lights are going off. Everyone's laughing, singing. I'm like, you just take this, baby, and then I'll be like. He got most of the words of the chorus. If you don't drive, do the watermelon crawl. Come on. I got this here. I got that. So because we are Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and we are 10 years behind the rest of the nation, there's something that's been going on all over the country that will eventually make its way here. It's called live band karaoke. where a live band performs the song and you sing. So you're singing with a band instead of a shitty karaoke track.
00:42:56
Really? Lyrics and everything. All to click tracks just like we do. And you will perform with them. Why has that not happened? Because many reasons. One, venues around here would never be able to pay enough money to have that happen. Sure. You can give a guy $100 to show up with his little screen and his speaker or you can give a live band karaoke $1,000 to make it way cooler. It will eventually come around. You have to know the songs. And they have a list. They've got their whole list of stuff and they're prepared. I've never seen it live, but I know it is a giant cool thing. I bet, yeah. That is cool.
00:43:33
There we go. That sounds like our mission here. Let's find that. So based on our experience on Friday night at the Red Lion, it was fucking packed in there. There was a ton of people having fun. Yeah, and it wasn't just our group of people no good whole bar. I think it's still cool. I think it's still cool Yeah, I'm gonna put this cool stamp on it too. I'm putting the cool it's fucking fun But do we remember the old guy's name that did Frank? What the hell was it? Jimbo that was him. Was that what it was? Yeah, cuz every time you go Jimbo! Yeah, you were screaming on Jimbo. He's like come on. He's an old man Old man barely making his way up there, and I'm like come on Jimbo And then he just nailed it. I'm guessing 85 maybe?
00:44:08
Fucking just nailed some Frank. Nailed it. Still singing the same song. It was beautiful. His wife was sipping a wine, and she wasn't even looking at him. She was kind of closing her eyes and singing along. And it was like, damn, dude, you know they've been doing this for a long time. Jimbo's been dragging her to the lot. It was beautiful. And he kept just whiskeys just on ice. Definitely cool. Jimbo was, yeah. Somebody was just bringing the drinks. Just bringing over Jimbo's like, come on, you know I'm going to do six. Yeah. Let's get it going. Keep it going. So what would your song be? If you could only pick one Walking up right now to make sure I'm going to do it Make it cool but not try too hard Probably be Lose Yourself Eminem It's part of our new rap medley We're going to debut here on Saturday February 28th That's what I'm talking about I'm so glad to be there for this It's a new medley It's hypnotized by Biggie Hell yeah Into nothing but a G thing Into Lose Yourself Nice It's about as hot as you can get Your boys will be there At the Align Energy Powerhouse February 28th What does that hold?
00:45:20
Well not as many as we're going to Or wait sorry We won't get there I mean the Align Energy Powerhouse Full blown concert is like 8,000 people Or something like that Guys we're going to put about 2,000 people in there That is the plan 2,000 people are going to come see you. It's going to be awesome. That's fucking unbelievable. It's awesome. That's a big venue. My anxiety has never been a thing until I had kids. Did that happen to you guys? Yeah. I was never an anxious person until I have kids and now every little thing I'm like, why did we book this? What the fuck? Everything's going to break the stage.
00:46:00
It's going to fall over mid-show. What are we doing? I'm pretty sure it was your idea. Of course it was. Of course it was. I'm the one that said, hey, Pork Tornadoes, we should stop playing bars. We should play the Paramount Theater. Shooter, get off the pot. Let's do this. Let's go, boys. And I'm glad we did, but also we have the entire month of March off this year because we just clean gear and rehearse and stuff, and I've never been more excited to not play music because I'm just like, I just need to. And it's spring break. Spring break. Just chill out. Okay, so I remember playing sports, football, same thing.
00:46:33
super anxiety until you get hit. Until you get hit. So is that what it's like for you? Once you come out, bang, and then you're in it. We have a special intro we've been using for about six months where the countdown clock ends, lights black out, proud to be an American starts playing, American flags going, proudly stand up, and then it cuts, and then it's Kevin James going, I've only got three things to say. And that is when we walk on stage. And the minute he starts screaming it Gentlemen, I can hear the crowd singing it through my in-ear headphones. I'm like we're good Yeah, and then it's first note and we're good. Okay, then you're just so in the same way I'm like should I just leave? Yeah, should I just go? Yeah It's not because I'm nervous and I'm just anxious Somebody text me like because I need to probably get out. I probably have to go save the day My kid has a cough. I got guys I better, yeah People forget that anxious is not scared. That's a good point because like I was anxious for tonight I do this every week.
00:47:30
But I'm excited, but I'm just nervous. Because you care. I want to start right now so that I can get in the moment. I could play drums in front of a million people and be just fine. But I couldn't do something that I'm not comfortable with. Like Xavier dancing with the Saints. I was just a judge for that. These guys have more balls and girls have more balls than anything I've ever done. To dance, to do something you're not comfortable with in front of a room of 2,000 people. Everyone going, yeah, that's nuts. Couldn't do it. Play rap Gangster's Paradise in front of the president? Done deal. So funny what everybody thinks, though, because if I said to some of those people, you can either dance or you can rap Gangster's Paradise.
00:48:13
Dance in front of 2,000 or rap. Or play a rap in front of a million. People outdance. Yeah. But I'd rap. Well, I'm just saying, it's funny how everybody rolls into their own little cover zone. But there's the safety of my best friends on stage with me. I am never the only eye focal point on stage. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. If it were just me by myself, that would be a little tough. Well, and you guys have put in the hours, so it's like that same sort of thing. Like once you log that many hours, you've already done the hard part. You already know what to do. It's a loss of memory, yeah. That doesn stop you from just being anxious before you go up there for what you don think you can control Then the minute hits I want to make sure that all these people that spent their hard money and got babysitters I want to make sure that this is such a great night.
00:48:57
I want to be fun. At the end of the night, I want people to be like, that was fucking awesome. Thank you. I don't have fun on stage sometimes because I'm more worried about you guys having fun. Right, right. I hope that you guys are having fun. Thank you. But there is absolutely no way somebody leaves a Pork Tornadoes concert and isn't having fun. Oh, God, no. There's been like two guys. I saw one of them posted a review. My billboard. That's so good. That's why I don't want to say I love negativity because I don't. But when it happens, sometimes it's like I'll lean into it every time. Lean into it.
00:49:30
Yeah. Congratulations. But I still love the guy with the Snickers that said these guys only like Snickers because there's a vein in it. That's still the funniest thing I've ever known. That is a comedic level genius. Yeah, it was. I loved it. Those guys eat the Snickers because it has a vein in it. And Mike's got me, you're damn right. Upside down because that's where the flavor's at. You're like clutching your curls. When we tear you. Mister. Yeah. When we stop laughing. Oh, my God. Yeah, dude. When we said on the podcast, like Logan almost fell out of his chair. And that's, we need a camera on him because like sometimes he just goes.
00:50:06
we need one just to see how serious he is most of the time and then when you catch him you're like that's what I'm talking about when we make him laugh we're like yes same for us if he laughs we're like we did it that's what he said he's like why are you always listening to me because I'm trying to find out I had a couple things real quick so do you guys have do you guys do any Limp Bizkit songs no I mean I would love to I would love you too if you can do it on Saturday for me that'd be great we're giant Limp Bizkit fans But like, we're not the band that's going to play like break stuff, you know?
00:50:39
Exactly. And like the rest of it, to tell you the truth. I think Nookie would be all right. Yeah, but here's the deal. Poor Faith. Wes Borland is one of the greatest guitar players. He is. And it's very hard to replicate the riffs that he plays. Our lead singer being our guitar player. Right. What that man does to play guitar and sing at the same time is mind-blowing to me. But some of that stuff just does not. You can't play that and sing that at the same time. So then it's like when we do Bulls on Parade, I end up rapping that. Yep. Because he's busy playing Tom Morello riffs. So I would love to.
00:51:14
I just don't know what the song is. That's fair. That's fair. I just always wonder, because I'm like, I hadn't heard you guys do it. I'm like, maybe they have, and I just missed it. It's there. It's just like, I don't know what it is. Okay. And then the last thing was, do you guys have a name for your fans? Because I was like, what if you're the pork pack? Okay. Because I wrote down porkers or tornadoes. Tornadoes. I know because I came up with this This is it. You got him. You got him. I got him. Fucking put the camera on him. Shower thoughts. I'm sitting here. I was like Tornadoes. Tornadoes. Tornadoes.
00:51:43
Tornadoes. And I was like tornadoes. That's great. Maybe like when the band started back in the day. I just want to know I'm a tornadoes. Good. Coming through here like a tornado. I like it. Alright. That was so good. All right, what's your favorite song out of yours ones that you want to do? Like, what's your favorite one that you play? Yes, you guys play, but what's your favorite one? I know it's probably changed, but overall, if you went for the consistency, that's been your favorite to play. It's dependent, right? It's like sometimes, is it the most proud drum beat that I'm proud of being able to play?
00:52:21
Is it the one that gets the crowd the most into it? Let me put it this way. Like, if you were going to go out and it's up to you to pick the one song you're going to play. We only get one song. You get one song. What are you going to play? So that's going to be for the crowd. Hold on. That's going to be for the crowd. Okay. And then I'll ask it a different way of this one. So you got one shot. It's your moment. You got one shot. You got one shot. I see what you did there. You only get one shot. Do you want a chance? One opportunity. Actually, right now, I'd say it's probably Pink Pony Club, actually.
00:52:50
Okay. Because it's new. So there's a freshness to it. but the crowd singing that back is wild. The fact that that is one of the most popular songs in the world and people just it's pretty cool. I don't know how that song could be on you and you're upset about it. It's just such a fun, happy song. And we of course pork tornado-fy it. There's some rock and guitar in it. Don't. We made it our own version but it's pretty and it's awesome. It was the lead song of one of our Little League baseball comebacks. Oh, really? We switched all the songs over to funny songs instead of their serious walk-up song. The first one was Pink Pony, and all the kids started going, Pink Pony, and now all of a sudden, we scored 15 runs. Just bat it all the way through the lineup, and away we go, because it kicked off of that same fun fight. It's like Gloria from the St. Louis Blues, man. You just fall into something like that.
00:53:39
So you got that for the club, but then what do you love to play? Like, just what do you like? So, I mean, you're the drummer, right? I mean, I know you sing too, but like, if you had to pick, what is your like, God, I fucking love this song. The song that I'm most proud of that I'm proud of what I do and add to the song is probably Mr. Brightside actually. Because the drummer for Mr. Brightside actually looks a lot like me. He's a very cool dude. The coolest. He's very cool. Great looking guy. He's very underrated when it comes to drummers. Drummers are like referees in my opinion. If you don't know they're there, they're the best.
00:54:17
That's generally. Because you're either really shitty or you're just hogging about yeah i'll never ever be the best drummer man like i wish i wish i was good enough to just have people be like mike schulde is the best drummer you know that's what i know well you don't know a lot of drummers but you'd be surprised i grew up knowing to be humble and stuff and like there are so many drummers better than me but when it comes to to being in the pocket and being strong on the drums and never fucking up and just being an intact allowing the rest of my band to just be able to show off their talents, there's nobody better at doing that.
00:54:54
So Bright Side's kind of the one song where I'm like, if you knew what I was doing, you'd be like, that guy's fucking awesome. But I'm just playing the song. But there's some intricate little parts in there that I'm very proud of. That's awesome. Yeah, I like that. Much like the Killers drummer. He's like the least known of the band, but he's so solid. So solid. That's fucking awesome. Mike and I had a little bit earlier. so i was betting um in the air tonight okay just because yeah but i'm only playing for like a minute of the song what the fuck do i know it's just the biggest like i'm like thinking like that part of it it's also the most nerve-wracking of the entire night if you're late you're fucked i've never messed up yet but like there will be a day when you're just doing it on purpose it's hilarious where you're like ah so there's that youtube video where that guy was playing and he messed it up right yeah Well, no. So I was going to talk about your YouTube video of In The Air Tonight.
00:55:47
Yes. And it's so funny because I watch you and you're like right on the beat, but then you also do like drum flips and stuff. It killed me. There will be a day when Phil Collins passes away and it's probably coming soon. I keep thinking he's passed away, but he's not. I already know what we're going to do. We're going to some stranger to you and me and we're going to black out everything. no drum beat and on the screen is going to fade in r.i.p phil collins for like 30 seconds because the man literally is the reason i play drums today yeah that when i got my first drum set i know i had no one to teach me i my mom goes here's some cds and she had no jacket required the orange face phil collins and i just went downstairs put on headphones and just started playing along to it like i saw on mtv you kind of crossed your arms okay i'll so like phil collins passing away will be a tough day.
00:56:41
And for what it's worth, your whole band's great. I'm not saying that, but I know you as the front man and a drummer. You know what I mean? Where you're out promoting, you're out doing that stuff, and that's what he was. I'm the mouth. But you don't see that a lot. The drummer's normally like, get back there. Can I just sit back here and play? No. You can't. I knew the rest of them. Oh, dude, I was such a grunge kid. Everyone was. I've had to say this multiple times. I don't hate Nirvana at all. I just don't like Kurt Cobain's voice. There's something about it that fucking makes me want to punch out a window. I don't know what it is. Strange. I know.
00:57:19
Musically, I understand they're great. I'm glad you said punch out a window. I don't know. It just makes me mad. There is no Limp Bizkit without Kurt Cobain. I know. I get it. That's how big... I remember when he died, my sister bawling. You mean when he was murdered by Courtney Love? Amen. Yes. You haven't seen Soaked in Bleach. It's on Netflix, I think. Yeah. They just reopened the case. Shaun knew me as a grunge kid with long hair, parted down the middle, butt cut, chain wallets. Still fucking cool. JNCO jeans. He looked like a total douchebag. I sure did, dude. My daughters are going to bring home a total douchebag, too.
00:57:53
You're going to be like, give him a chance. He's going to fucking show the woman. But it's going to be broccoli top. No, you're always fucking cool. You're always the kind of... Actually... Yeah, wow. Well, let me explain to you why. It's because the Regis mentality, the Xavier mentality was always about good people and always about respecting elders and i didn't know that until i moved here when i moved here the first batch of friends i made came over to my house for the first time and in st louis i was used to like all my friends just going in the basement don't talk to the parents parents are cool yeah here um all of my friends like i went downstairs and they stayed upstairs like mr and mrs schulte how the how are you good to see you my name is mike my name is bill yeah and like that instilled to me that like even if you're a shithead like you need to be like cool with parents and have conversations with the parents.
00:58:40
Dude, I'm telling you, that is the gift of gab that was given to us by that school. We went to lunch. You and I were talking about how it's so easy for us to just talk to anybody. I never realized, honestly, in the last few years how that's not easy for people. I'm just used to it. You said that's what Catholic school put in this. I'm like, wait, really? I don't remember a lot of good about it, but you're right because everybody was like that. You go to other people's houses, you just openly talk to the parents. They go over to your house and talk to your parents for an hour. Always. Go talk to your uncle. Or you meet the girlfriend's parents for the first time. Yeah. And like most people are like, you're doing Daniel LaRusso, like kicking the thing. Yeah.
00:59:19
No, it's like, hey, how's it going? How are you? Wow, so great to meet you. To the point where they're like, tell your boyfriend to get the fuck out of here. Yeah. That's what I want. It's so funny because then my kids have kids, friends over and the ones that were in the basement, I'm like no good. Like that is That's the one you're going to get in trouble with And the other one they're checking my ear off And they still might get in trouble Even when I know you're an Eddie Haskell But I don't give a shit, I love you Aaron says that shit all the time, Eddie Haskell I'm like, I know it And Ashley will be like, he's an Eddie Haskell I'm like, I know it, but I fucking love it When my kids bring their friends over I pull it out of them I'm like, no, you're not running right to the room I talk to them, I joke with them But that's when they like you you know what I mean?
01:00:07
I'm going to leave you being. Let's just talk for a little bit. I don't need to know everything about you. Give me a little rundown. Who you are, this is who I am. What do you like? What do you do? Don't hang out with me all night because I'm going to get annoyed with you. But I also like, give me the rundown. My fucking favorite is I run into him out in public and they're like, hey, Mr. Allen. They know it's Mr. Allen. A little bit of respect. I know you, dude. I know you, dude. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
01:00:35
There's Coach Shaun. I'm going to go talk to him. I'm cool, man. Am I cool? Am I cool? Yeah. Hey, man. How's it going? Yeah. Yeah. All right, boys. How are you getting home tonight? Was there anything else that you needed to comment about as far as comments? We just haven't checked in in a while. I just want to make sure. Do you want me to read some comments? Or what do you want to do? Yeah, do a couple, and then we'll do a dad joke, and we should take it to the live. And then we'll jump it to the Patreon after this. So if people want to hear the rest of the conversation, you've got to move over to Patreon.
01:01:01
So we are going to actually stay live on this one. Because we're going to sell it. We're going to put it on the Patreon later and then further going. But as long as we have you, we're going to miss the shit out of you tonight. As long as I can mention that on February 28th, this Saturday at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse, the Pork Tornadoes are playing. And you can join us. We're going to be there. You can't hang out with them because they'll be in the VIP, but you can be GA. You can win four GA tickets. And you can look at them from the other side of the railing. We'll wave at you. Oh, I should give a quick shout-out also to Third Base Bree because they are streaming this podcast at the bar.
01:01:39
Are they really? Yeah. I love that place so much. Shout-out to, I know Amy and Sarah are there. Hey, girls. I don't know who's all there, but thank you guys so much, and we appreciate you so much. Good people over there. Awesome. Yeah. Just to clarify because it was a little confusing. So the live stream is going to keep going. Yep. Yes. But, you know, this is your only chance to see it unless you're a Patreon subscriber, and then you'll be able to catch the restream of it later. Yeah, and I do want to say one more thing about this. is going to be a normal thing. So from now on, we do an extra 15 to 30 minutes at the end of every episode that you will only see on Patreon going forward. So this last one was absolutely ridiculous, and that will come out next week.
01:02:13
But that's every week now. So you will get basically a bonus mini episode every single week on Patreon. As well as a chance to win a bottle of Weller. Can we at least just mention this now? If I sign up for your Patreon, even though I'm on the episode, this is legit. You're good. The only ones excluded are us. We're going to do a random number thing. We're going to record it. I am signing up for the Patreon right now and fully understanding that I may not win. Without this being said, baby, I'm thinking of you, Ashley. She's looking at that bottle because she's my little whiskey girl. She's going to be like, what do you mean we're fucking not in love?
01:02:54
What do you fucking mean? One or two wives have commented can still pull wives enter to win. I think the answer is no. Yeah, I got you ladies. We got some other stuff. I'll take care of the wives. Whoa! Whoa, Jesus. Hold on. What did he say last episode? He's not just a sharp-dressed man. That looks great. That's something. I don't know. So, just like your morning wood, that jacket looks great. Doesn't it? Yeah. I hope Aaron said that. Morning wood and wears clothes like that. Do we want to announce more? Do we want to talk about the Benz thing that we confirmed tonight is happening and just throw it out there yeah going out to think we're doing it oh your code words are fucking fantastic nailed down so all right we'll wait there's um yeah there's stuff coming in the works with cedar ridge actually our good friends out at cedar ridge and ben's we're gonna try and see about doing a bottle so we're more details to come on that but that's gonna be awesome yeah so cool no marnie you can't win either sorry oh marnie i'm sorry To close this out, I got a dad joke.
01:03:56
This was sent in from one of our good friends, who I'm hoping is listening. Poop jokes aren't my favorite kind of joke, but they're a solid number two.
01:04:10
I guess that means you're regular if it's solid. I don't know how to touch that joke. He literally sent me a picture of a sign in a bathroom with that. I was like, that's perfect. Local establishment? That is a good bar joke. It is. Solid bathroom dad joke. Absolutely, yeah.
01:04:30
Alright, give us a minute and join us over. So the live stream is going to keep going. But hang out. And we're going to do our after party here. Can we pause it for just a quick second for some people that have to pee? Or I'm just going to go. John's going to go. Just go. From here on out, you can just get up and go. Yeah, can you go for- Right, right! Three dads old fights a new hype, crack a beer, argue all night on We're Still Cool Right! Right!
