Show notes

On this episode of "We're Still Cool Right?", Shaun, Mike, and Erik kick back with a homemade Butterfinger-inspired drink and swap stories about football playoffs, wild player moments, and MVP debates. They dive into the nostalgia (and chaos) of card collecting, laugh about parenting teens who raid the fridge, and reminisce about old-school parties. The guys also debate whether Harley-Davidson still has that cool factor, mixing in plenty of jokes and friendly banter. It’s just a bunch of buddies hanging out, sharing laughs, and keeping it real about life, sports, and what’s still cool.

Welcome to We're Still Cool, Right? The weekly podcast where the conversation flows smoother than top-shelf whiskey. And cool, well, it never really left. Grab a drink and hang out with Erik, Mike, and Shaun while they dive into nostalgia and attempt to answer the age-old question. We're still cool, right?

Horns up, Mob Squad! Let's go, Rams! Oh, it was a good day yesterday. Right as we were going, I'm like, I wonder what he's going to say. And I'm like, duh. I know what he's going to fucking say. I thought it was going to be, the kick is up. And it's good. And it's good. I should have did that one. Maybe I'll do that next week. We'll see. Hopefully. They look pretty good. Yeah. We'll get into it. It was a fun one. Yeah, with that being said, we're back here for it. So thanks for joining us. My name is Shaun. I'm Mike. And I'm Erik. And this is the We're Still Cool Right podcast. Ooh, yeah. Ooh, yeah.
00:01:06
We got a lot to talk about. We got some good stuff here. Just thick into football. But I believe we should get into this drink here. Yeah. I did this one this week. It's what I saw online. It didn't have a name that I saw. And you know I love naming drinks. So from the purple-headed yogurt slinger to now we have the butt finger. So. The drink brought to us from Benz. Benz Beverage Depot, yes. 501 7th Avenue in downtown Cedar Rapids. Go check them out. They're awesome. They hooked us up with everything we need here for it. You're never going to forget that address now, are you? I mean, if they knew what you were naming the drink, they might have taken the weed off.
00:01:47
The Benz buttfinger. They come in and ask for it. But no, if you need something, stop in, see the guys. hey tell them we sent you please tell them you heard it on here they love hearing um they love hearing it and actually um have been great to us so yes thanks to them but yeah i'm excited to give this thing a little whirl here what uh what's all in it so two ingredients super simple this is equal parts pineapple juice and peanut butter whiskey so it's supposed to taste like a butterfinger uh i had a little sip and i thought it did is this where the butt finger came from That's funny. No, it didn't.
00:02:23
The Ozark shirt was on its own. But now we can tell Nick he has his own signature drink. So cheers, everybody at home. You can shoot it or you can sip it with these glasses. I've learned don't try to swallow it too fast. You'll spill on yourself. There's an outtake of me making this drink on our Patreon if you'd like to see me make an absolute ass out of myself. Let's see what it looks like when a little kid tries to drink out of a big kid cup. Cheers, everybody at home. It is like an off-putting smell. Smell, but the taste is great. I don't know if I taste the butt finger, but... You always taste the butt finger.
00:02:58
I think it's real close. I think the more cold it is, the more it would taste like it. I think colder would be it. The pineapple juice was cold, and I tried to chill the whiskey a little bit beforehand. I really like it. It's really fucking good. It tastes like pineapple and peanut butter to me. It doesn't smell good. It's a shooter. I guess I haven't just smelled it. It's not a great smell. It's not a great smell.
00:03:22
It smells like the butt figure. They say smell is like 80% of taste or something like that. It smells like fake peanut butter. That's kind of what it is. It does smell. It's a pretty good name for the smell, but it fucking tastes pretty good. Probably a better shot, but it's good. Yeah. I don't know. Make it at home. Like I said, chill it first or put it in a shaker with some ice before you pour it. I think it's good. I don't know. I don't know. It's definitely going to be more of a winner than a loser, I think. Yeah, I like the flavor. It's good. It's not bad. Way better than it smells. It's kind of one of those things that you probably have laying around, too.
00:03:57
Because you bought peanut butter whiskey for something when that all came out. And how many times you tried to make peanut butter and jelly and shit like that. It's kind of with the sweet. Well, I remember speaking of Benz Beverage Depot, we went to their annual whiskey tasting a couple months ago, and our buddy Brian there was pouring. He had a bottle of peanut butter tequila and i was like this is gonna be awful because i'm like not a top shelf tequila sure it just tasted like it was delicious we need to get our hands on that i actually found shooters of it did you they have them at oakland road yeah so okay we can buy some shooters i didn't see any full bottles but yeah it's really good we need to do that that because that was good yeah when we did that i love peanut butter flavored almost i mean i love peanut butter i think if you don't love peanut butter you're not american like i don't i remember the first time i had it like not too long ago no i was four years old yeah it was a day i'll never forget um no when we had when i had peanut butter whiskey oh yeah like everybody else i think we ended up going through the whole bottle that night that we had it you know what i mean and then woke up like oh what the hell and it was it was we didn't screw well we had the bird dog or we had the um what you also yelled smoky yeah that was the first one i had um but yeah i remember i think it it was like during covid i feel like that's about when it was yeah we drank a lot of people and we drank a but you know i mean in the next day i was like i feel terrible it's like all those whiskey shots yeah it's good at the time it hurts the next day it's good going down fake sugar for the win so yeah should we kind of get into football a little bit i think we should because
00:05:31
it is playoff and it's been they've been fucking good games every game's been close or comebacks or The Bears have fucking pulled off miracles in the fourth quarter, multiple games. Outside of the fucking Niners getting just worked, walloped, you know, which that was just a buzzsaw. I mean, everybody knew that was coming. Well, yeah, Niners are playing like one-legged. You know what I mean? They didn't have any other players are hurt. The craziest thing, though, still out of everything has to be what happened to the Broncos. I can't believe I never even saw anything happen. No, neither did I. I still haven't seen the play.
00:06:03
They showed the play. He hops up and runs off the field like you can't tell anything's wrong. Yeah, for context, Bo Nix. Yeah. Yeah, sorry. On the second to last play of the game, they said, in overtime. I thought it was a joke when I saw it. You know what I mean? A lot of people did. A lot of people did, and then there was a lot of the videos going around of like. Oh, like husbands like, shut up. Yeah, shut up. I'm going to stop that. You know what I mean? I saw them. They didn't say anything about it, you know? And then this guy like, you're already fucking mine. Is this real? Well, I can do it.
00:06:27
I mean, think of the story now, though. What if they beat the Patriots and go to the Super Bowl with a backup quarterback who's barely ever played? Stedham? I can't remember his name. I don't know but the best one I saw was a fucking picture of Phillip Rivers putting his helmet on.
00:06:43
That or Peyton comes running out. I've got this. That'd be fucking awesome. So we talked about this. We all got together for the Rams game. We'll talk about that. Rams-Bears game. But I said what a genius Phil Rivers is. Because, okay, so when you retired from the NFL, I thought I read that you get insurance for so many years or whatever he has 10 i think 10 kids or more he has at least 10 kids at least 10 stay offer man jesus christ but anyway uh pull out yeah pull out so by him coming back the only thing he did was yeah he reset the timer for him getting into the hall of fame big fucking deal yeah healthcare for 10 kids for like five extra years can you imagine how much money that is he's a genius even for the amount of money he's made it's still gonna be expensive oh god dude having all those kids living in San Diego.
00:07:30
Yeah. So there you go. Here's to you. I saw a thing of that. I'm on it, boys. Move over, Pappy's back in town. There you go. But yeah, we got together yesterday. We had a crew. Shout out to you for getting that organized. We had a table and everything else. We're at Cliffs, and they set us up down there. and we got together to watch the Bears-Rams game. It was a good game. I mean, everyone was saying all week how it was going to be really hard for the Rams. I was scared. I'm going to be honest as a Rams fan. I'm like, that's fucking cold. You know what I mean? And Stafford played in Detroit, but some of those guys, like Puka doesn't play in the cold and Devontae Adams.
00:08:11
I mean, I guess he was in Green Bay, but it's not the same. The memes for that were pretty good, too. They were hilarious. The one I sent you, the little kid in the pool, he's like shivering. He's like, are you cold? I'm not cold. Do you want to get out? No, I'm not cold. he's like that's gonna be fucking sean mcveigh on the sideline that are the cool runnings one when they're like locking up the the cool runnings video that was pretty good too so yeah um but yeah i guess we say rams game because you are a rams fan the majority of us were all rooting for the i know trust me i knew i was in enemy territory and i'm like fuck it you know we we did meet up uh we went to a different place at halftime my uncle was there he's a big rams fan but i got to watch win ashley was telling me about this one this video she saw where um things you know this world's been so up for a while that it all happened when the cubs won the world series and they're like the bears got to win the super bowl just to get us out of this portal well god damn it now i feel bad yeah it's been up ever since and it's like they gotta get us that's the only way we're getting out is the bears gotta win that's actually pretty funny that's uh pretty good. You know, this is the first time in a long time that I haven't had any, you know, skin in the game. Yeah, because the Chiefs are always in it. Not only, but they always make it to at least this game. So everybody's like, who are you rooting for? And I'm like, I hope they all lose.
00:09:29
That's the last time I ever root for the Chiefs for you, asshole. No, I was out there I was out there rooting for your Rams. I know. It is funny though, like, I don't, if I don't have any skin in the game, I just root for my buddies teams or at that point, I'm just like, i want to see an underdog win it or i want someone that's never there to win it you know like i'm the same way i know how big of a rams fan you are i just like my family's barefoot like i would call myself kind of a bears fan like if i had to root for you know um so but i don't lose any sleep if they lose you know but at the same time so i'm on your i'm on your team for the rest of the life here but i can root for the damn sometimes i get on board like also the teams that we hate like oh yeah you're talking about the seahawks but also like the eagles the you know the old patriots back when they were winning all the time like everybody hates yeah because we like we were talking to adam he's a cowboys fan and he's like i he's like the team i hate the most is the eagles i'm like that makes sense as a you know i'm like the seahawks are our eagles you know what i mean i've always hated them i fucking hate pete carroll more than life itself just the fact that he was I can't stand the Seahawks.
00:10:37
So I'm terrified. They look really good right now. I don't know if they're... I mean, their defense looks ridiculous. I want to defend the Seahawks in the tiniest way. How dare you? In the tiniest way, which is that I'm a really big Sam Darnold fan. That's fine. Because I had him in fantasy last year with the Vikings. That's why, yeah. That's usually what it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And man, I'm rooting for that guy. Talking about underdog stories. Sure. He has a terrible career. He's trapped on the Jets. Yeah. Like what? Like just everyone's given up on him. Yeah. And he goes to the Vikings shows.
00:11:08
He has it. And now he's going to the championship game. Yeah. Like in two years. Yeah. I mean. It is a Cinderella story for him. For sure. I'm rooting for him. You know. Yeah. I get it. So there was a cool video I saw of like the light show that they did in the beginning. You know what I mean? When they're introducing players and everything else. And that fucking stadium where this guy's seat was was right through where you can see out of the front of the stadium or like the past the end zone. And it's just a city skyline too. And it was like right through this. I'm like, that looks fucking awesome.
00:11:35
You know what I mean? It's kind of a cool stadium. And then the 12th man how loud it gets there. So I can see where it'd be fun to be a fan, but I'm the same way. Fuck the Seahawks. I want to rip people's throats out when they say the 12th man. I fucking hate it. Oh, you would have hated this video because they had it flying across the field. I hate it so much. Their fans are annoying. I'm sorry. I fucking hate them. Didn't the Chiefs break their record on the seismograph or whatever? Yeah, probably. Well, that's you're talking. That's right at home. That's the two loudest stadiums. Probably there is.
00:12:08
Yeah, I saw a thing today. It said like is Matthew Stafford a Hall of Famer? I'm like, how the fuck is he not? Is he not? He's he's every biggest. Because they said he needed a Super Bowl. Then he got that. I mean, and now, yeah, he's set so many records like he he's thrown the basically the top two triple crown winners. He was the quarterback for like Calvin Johnson and Cooper Cup. Yeah, it's like, dude, I don't know how you could deny it at this point, but that's I'm obviously biased, too, and I'll admit that. I was so excited when they got him That's just a talking point though too right now That's true Do you think that he wins the MVP this year?
00:12:39
I think he should I think it's hard to argue Who else are they talking about? Who else is in the mix? Drake May is the other one That's kind of really at the top of the list Quarterback for the Patriots I wonder their touchdown interception Ratios Against each other I feel like Not that that's everything but like that wins yards you know what i mean yeah that's but when you think about hall of fame like if you're reaching the end of your career and you're putting up mvp campaigns right back that's kind of crazy yeah another team like it's you know well and the rams are dominated more by their offense than they are their defense yeah certainly and the patriots are not patriots are defense driven yeah so like this year when you talk straight stats drake may generally outperforms Matt Stafford in efficiency metrics like completion percentage, passer rating, QBR, but Stafford has way more passing touchdowns and passing yards.
00:13:40
That's exactly what you're pointing out, is that they're more aggressive. They've got to win. The offense has to show up to win where the Patriots can pull it off with their defense in some games. Just think to myself if Aaron Donald was still on the Rams because he didn't have to retire. Like he was still in his prime. Like, dude, he had a couple good years left. But he wanted to go out on top and I get it. I think about the fucking Patriots already being back again. Come on. Come the fuck on. There was a comedian. You know that Stavros? He's a fat guy, but he's got like a mustache. He's on tires if you haven't watched it.
00:14:12
So anyway, he's hilarious. He was like in New England doing a stand-up show. And he's like, fuck New England. Fuck Drake May. And the whole crowd's like, boo. He's like, no, fuck you guys. You didn't even have to suffer. You guys shouldn't be able to win a game for 10 years. He's like, you guys don't know how it feels. They were bad for, what, four years? And then they're all of a sudden back now in the... Like, already that close to a Super Bowl. I'm like, you fucking assholes. I struggle with hating on them, though, because, like, everybody's been hating on the Chiefs, and they didn't even have as long of a run as the Patriots.
00:14:38
Right. Welcome to the dark side, Erik. Just start hating on them. It's what you do. Just hate everybody that wins? Yeah. We hate whoever wins. Unless it's our team. Well, no, it's just that they're good forever, and then they just barely stumble their toe, and then they're back into it. Yeah. Like, goddammit, man. And then you look at other teams like fucking the Browns or the Jets, and it's like, ooh, just can't. Browns looked like they were going to have kind of come back there, and then it fell apart. It shows how important it is to have good fucking ownership. You know what I mean? Because if you don't, they hire bat.
00:15:10
You know what I mean? It just sucks. So if your team you root for has terrible ownership, then you're just fucked. They're not going to do well. You're just over and over and over again. Look at the Bengals. I mean, they've got some really star players. Well, the Bengals are super fucked because they don't have money. Because Joe Flacco takes most of it. Or not Joe Flacco, Jesus Christ, Burrow. Sorry. No, it's not that. It's their owner isn't as rich as the rest of them. So when you do a guarantee contract, as the owner, you have to put up the money to do that. You have to show you have that much.
00:15:43
And you have to set aside the funds or whatever to do it, and you cannot use your team as leverage because the NFL is not interested in any bank owning the team. so you are you have to put up your own assets as a so like i have all these you know guaranteed contracts out there these billionaires are putting their own money aside that are leverage against that guarantee contract and has nothing and you can't put your team up against it of course their team would be worth it but again they don't want the nfl doesn't want any banks owning a team it's smart so you're not allowed to put your team up for it yeah so it goes to show like you got to be a fucking multi-billionaire to pull it off they just don't clearly they're a very wealthy family just in the grand scheme of the nfl they're not yeah so yeah it's not like jerry jones and right and i think of him when i think of just bad ownership because it's like he thinks he knows everything and he has to have his hand in everything and it's like dude you're the money at the end of the day like you're you know you don't know at all i mean he knows a lot he's been doing it a long time but yeah clearly it's been since the 90s you're not doing great anymore so yeah maybe i think because he had the you know one or two good calls in that space right in the 90s now he thinks he thinks he knows it all yeah see what happens i don't know yeah well that's what i'm saying like as adam being a uh cowboys fan has to fucking hate to see the patriots back oh yeah because cowboys were so good and then haven't cut back to it since then yeah and the patriots like hold our beer we'll be right back just give us a couple years speaking of which did you hear this stat really quick no um either the patriots or the chiefs have been in the afc
00:17:16
championship game for the last 15 years is that okay since 2011 because one of those two teams have been in the championship that streak still alive and that still alive yeah that fucking bananas that is fucking bananas yeah i mean that a lot of teams to beat out for 15 straight years so no matter what team has gone to the Super Bowl you would have had to have beaten the Patriots or the Chiefs for the last 15 years in the championship game which is fucked up in a league that has so much correct what's the word I'm looking for parity like parallels like equal most teams are There's a lot of people.
00:17:55
A lot of teams can win the Super Bowl. Not all of them, you know what I mean? But really, more than most sports, you have a lot of people at the beginning of the year that can win the Super Bowl. So then for it to be those two teams. And the last couple of weeks have really shown that, right? I think parity is a good word. There's a lot of parity. I think that is the word I was trying to say. There's a lot of it where teams could win at any given point. All these are super close games.
00:18:18
Chiefs and the Patriots, though. I don't even have to look this up, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. Who's the team that's lost the most in the championship game? The Bills. The Bills. Yeah. Poor Josh Allen, man. Like, I don't know. We've talked about this. First of all, that was a fucking catch at the end of that game. It was a total bullshit call. I'm sorry. Yeah. I agree. And, you know, whatever. Don't leave it down to one play. But that guy just keeps getting fucked. You saw they fired the coach. Yeah. Which I'm like, and everyone had the same take. They're like, he's a great coach. But clearly, just something's not working, and it's time to mix it up.
00:18:52
Like if you have Josh Allen, man, I'm sorry. Yeah. You got to be doing something. They need an offensive coach is what he needs. Like if he had fucking Andy Reed, you know what I mean? Like that, like someone like that, like an offensive, I think he, I think. He's such a stud. I like Josh Allen. And I, I would say that I'm more of a cheese fan than anything else. And so like that whole kind of been against, you know, they battled against, but they've had some of these great battles, but I like Josh Allen from, I don't know, social media and shit that you see like that. Like he's a boozer. the ultimate like bro yeah he's like the total bro you know he's got a fucking hot crazy hot wife like he's just yeah i loved her in uh she was in a marvel show hawkeye kate bishop and i'm like when i watched it i was she seemed like a kid i was like what like whatever then i found out he's married her and i saw her i'm like what the fuck like i had no idea a she was that hot right b she was like a famous with him.
00:19:51
He's doing great at life. He just can't get there in the NFL. Is he going to do it? He'll get there. I don't think he's going to. I hope he just gets there, whether they win or whatever, but he deserves to at least get to a fucking Super Bowl. And for the Bills. I was partially right. They're tied with the Bengals. They both lost twice. Well, yeah, that tracks. Either way, great fucking games. I'm obviously rooting for the Rams. Fuck the Seahawks. unless you like them, then fuck you too. No, I'm kidding. It should be a good postseason. Only a couple games left. They're the night game again next Sunday.
00:20:23
We'll see what happens. Who would you rather have the Rams play against in the Super Bowl? For the AFC? Yeah, like the Broncos, because we don't know what that quarterback could be. That's why it feels broken. I think if it was Bo Nix, I would rather them play the Patriots. Sure. I don't know. The Broncos with him felt like the Seahawks do right now, just fired on all cylinders you know what i mean it is the patriots you've seen at least stumble a little bit it's very interesting to look at that and you have mahomes allen um you have who's the broncos or the um bangles bangles yeah burrow burrow those three guys are like the best quarterbacks that aren't in it you know they're none of them it's never happened it's you know like the eagles aren't in it uh ravens aren't even in it yeah you know like there's It's weird that the top quarterbacks aren't in it.
00:21:17
It should have been Josh Allen's year. If he was going to do it, this was his time to do it. That's what everybody was saying because this was the first time he didn't have to go up against Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. He didn't have to go up against him. People are wondering why he was crying at the press conference. That's why. He knew this was my chance and they fucked me. And the refs snatched it right out of their hands. They just took it right out of their hands. Well, come on, you need a wide receiver one. Brandon Cooks is not the guy you need to be passing it to on that play. Not on that play, no.
00:21:49
Well, and I love when they get excited about it and you're like, you're really stretching there. Yeah. Hey, man, they picked up Cooks. It's like, did they pick him up or did he? He just kind of fall into the team. I was a little disappointed. Hardman got that touchdown. Oh, yeah. I was like, man, former chief. Doing it for the Bills here. There you go. That being said, that's NFL Tonight National title You want to make a bet, Shaun? Yeah, we are I got 20 bucks in Indiana if you want to take it You tell that story We were at the bar a few weeks ago We just spent too much time at the bar Okay, so We got a conversation We got a conversation about it And there's no shock here I'm a huge Notre Dame fan And so I believe the only fucking team from Indiana that's winning the national title is Notre Dame.
00:22:42
So I don't want to root for fucking Indiana. And I don't like the coach. I don't have a good reason for it. I was talking to my son about it. Cooper's like, why don't you like him? I'm like, I just don't like him. He has a punchable face. I don't know what it is. He's just so punchable. And then he said, he made some comment. Cooper was telling me where he's like, all I do is win. Look it up. Google me or something like that. And Cooper goes, he didn't fucking win against Notre Dame last year. All right, buddy. Good for you. So he was like, I'm rooting for Indiana. He said that when we're talking about it today as I'm getting ready to come here because we're going to watch it tonight.
00:23:18
He's like, Dad, I'm with you. I'm rooting for Miami because I get it. Nobody from Indiana is going to win it. That's a smart way to look at it that I never thought of. I totally get it. Oh, I don't know. It's smart. But I guess if Miami is going to get in over Notre Dame, they might as well win the whole damn thing. And you might as well pay me 20 bucks if they do. No, Miami, that's me Oh, I thought you were saying I don't remember making the bet You bet on Miami, I bet on India How did that go? We made a little bet Yeah, you were just talking I have this gut feeling Miami's just, they're going to take it They're going to be able to beat them And I was like, really?
00:23:56
You were like, yeah, I'll bet you $10 And you go, we're adults, $20 And I go, done I would have said yes to $50, let's be honest Yeah, I was going to say The odds are definitely in your favor And if I lose, that's fine. I'll go out on my shield and be like, that was worth 20 bucks. So not a bad deal. Me running my mouth at the bar. Fucking imagine that. It should be a good game, though. I like that either way you guys are giving money to a friend. Instead, I'm giving it to the sportsbooks. Yeah. Right? Yeah. FanDuel ain't getting this shit. I know. I finally deleted all those apps a few months ago.
00:24:28
I'm like, I'm done. I love giving the internet my money. Right? Just throw it away. Literally, light it on fire and just watch it. So good. Yeah. I, and I did pretty good. Like the last couple of months, I, like I won one that was $400 off a dollar. I won one that was three 75 off a dollar. And I was like, you know what? I just recouped basically everything I've lost. I just deleted them. It's time to walk away. I'm down. Yeah. Cause I'm like, I could have went out way down. I'm like, I went out pretty even. Yeah. I'm going to do the same thing here in about two, three weeks. Yeah. Whenever you take a break until next August.
00:24:58
Yeah. So that's the thing too. Yeah. Once football starts again, maybe one of my friends has still never pulled his money out of there. made a bet one and then he had a big win like right away and so he's never pulled anything out so it's it's he's still he's still judges where he's at based on the fact that he's never pulled his money out of there that's awesome jody did that she won like they went to a cubs game she just like you know the first time you sign up they throw all these free bets at you yeah she went for like 300 and something bucks and she just she's like it's still my account yeah she's like if i ever get another wild hair i have money to gamble with i'm like that's one way to do it i have been able to resist it and i'm going with it it's kind of just one of those things i'm glad i don't because once you start once i get into it then i'm yeah i just plus i don't i can't i just don't think i'd be good at just doing a five bucks here you know i'm kind of like let's fucking get a thrill that's the problem hence you like 10 bucks i'm like let's make a 20 you know what i mean like that's yeah i say two fingers better make it three we're going all in when i'm in i I don't look at it as winning 100.
00:26:01
I look at it as losing 400 that I could have got if we would have bet more. Dude, when I hit that one, it was like five dudes to homer in a game. But I was watching the game, and the homers were just going off. I can't remember who it was. Anyway, but it was $1 to win $400. I'm like, God, if I had just put $10 down. But that's the other thing you do is when you hit one, you're like, I could have won $4,000 right there. But if you bet $10 every time you wanted to bet $1, you'd be down so much money. Or you'd be up. You would have hit the big one. Fucking devil on my shoulder. God, the worst. That's why the apps aren't on my phone.
00:26:35
Because that's the thing. They need to hire you as just a hype man. You're like the Flava Flav for DraftKings. I'd get everybody hyped up and then be like, I don't even fucking do it. You should bet more, Puss. Off mic? I don't do this shit.
00:26:52
So anyway, go sports. Hopefully a good game tonight. Should be good. But the only thing that sucks is that we're coming to the end of football season. It's the most depressing time of the year. It's like the best and worst time of the year. Yeah. So the only thing I could save it is summertime. And we're not. It's that lull where it's just it's still cold and shitty and you can't do anything. It's that gap there. Nothing to watch. Yeah. Just gambling. Yeah. I'm going to start gambling on table tennis every day to keep my spirits up. You know, we'll get to the NCAA tournament. That's always fun.
00:27:18
That's true. That's the other thing. The amount of stories I've read about wealthy people down to broke people who like gambling addiction, obviously, is like off the charts right now. There's been players. There was a player in the NBA recently who was like, dude, I would bet until I fell asleep and I'd fall asleep with the phone on my hand. I'd wake up in the middle of the night. I'd be betting European soccer in the middle of the night. I'd wake up at 5 to get a drink of water. I'm betting on table tennis. Jesus Christ. That's crazy. I don't really have that. I don't have that addiction part with that part with gambling.
00:27:53
No, I try to stick to cocaine for that. just kidding kids disclaimer Mike doesn't really I do not with that being said should we get to some still cool let's do it yeah well we can all agree fucking football still cool unless you are a Seahawks fan I'll fucking rip all your limbs off too 12th man shut up guess what I'm going to be texting him Oh, fuck off. Jesus Christ. Guess who's not showing up next week? Unless the Rams won. I'm ordering a 12th man jersey. Fuck you, dude. I will literally get custom-made shirts with You Love Osama Bin Laden on them if you do that.
00:28:41
It's just gonna be Shaun wearing an I Am Her Osama shirt with an eggplant in his hand. Don't test me. Touche. I was kidding. I was just kidding. yeah who wants to kick it off okay fine i will i'm sorry i was taking a drink it is i got an air bubble in there it was like no but i so i've kind of went on this kick and i know i can talk about this because so growing up my stepdad had a baseball card shop on mount runner road and it was awesome like i collected cards he collected cards he's actually still uh he's the number one person in the world with he owns the most nolan ryan rookie cards they like honored him at like a convention really because those used to be worth a lot of money i don't know what they're worth now i think still a good amount but he has like hundreds of them he that was his thing he's like he loved nolan ryan so he collected everything him but then at some point he got he had so many rookies like i'm just going to try and own them all i mean the best fucking nolan ryan thing was when whoever charged him out ventura and he smoked him and then he pitches the rest of the game with blood all over him and he's like dude it was badass uh but yeah our base so and also i get these ads i'm not into pokemon cards i don't understand it but i know it's huge right now i know you collect them with your son kind of or like you find them and i i get ads with my son maybe you use it as a curtain i don't know but like yeah i but i'm like it's clearly still cool i just don't understand it but it's like our baseball cards and card collecting still cool because now you can't even find baseball basketball cards like they fly off the shelves yeah i know
00:30:14
it's like cooper talks about in his class so those guys do it but he'll ask me to get them i'm like remember one time of christmas he's like will you i'm like fine yeah no problem i'm like why can't i fucking find anything there there used to be everywhere you know i mean you could get them anytime yeah and i remember going through i did no clue you know i was like i'll go to target and pick some up nothing and i'm like oh maybe they're out i'll go you know nothing then i like learn that you can't fucking find them anymore yeah but that's like half the battle right there people just buy whole like bricks of packs yeah like so like i know a guy i'm not gonna say his name but his son works at a place that sells them and so he gets like first dibs and he'll buy which i think is kind of crap but it's not my i don't have any skin in the game but he'll just buy the whole thing so like there's like literally a stand with i don't know 150 packs whatever and he's just like goink and buys the whole thing so and then what just sells them well either resells them to make money or rips the packs open and is then reselling all the good the good cards yeah you send them to get graded then they're worth like 10 times more if they're a perfect card and all this stuff so i mean are people still buying those right now like are they still like like so that's still like walmart actually changed didn't they change their policies recently so more kids could get them like now you can't buy more than like 15 bucks of pokemon cards at one time or something like that and now i've heard they last on the shelves a little yeah even like like so like over the holidays best buy had some packs and we got some for the kids for like stocking stuff or type stuff So don't you like play Pokemon, but like it's different power and so like, is it?
00:31:47
Yeah, but I don't think most people even play it. I think they just collect the cards now. I mean, it's, yeah, there's a lot of things happening in this conversation. So let me provide a little context. Maybe that can help. We're good at that. Because I'm deep in it. And I have been for like a year and a half now. Yeah. Because yeah, Liam and I got into it. My stepson and I, great bonding experience for us. I grew up collecting Pokemon cards as a kid, right? Oh, really? Like a lot of people did. Yeah. So yeah, like in the, in the nineties. But do you still have any of your original ones? Some of them.
00:32:14
A lot of them lost and disappeared. Yeah, which is always the case. All my super valuable stuff's gone, so whatever. And then, yeah, I got back into it, and it's really reignited some childhood stuff for me, so I'm having a great time. But yeah, the whole thing is a shit show. Pokemon's the really big, obvious one because it's the biggest media franchise in the world. It's like the biggest IP in the world. But it's affecting everything. It's sports cards. one piece is what all the scalpers are going to right now it's anime if you haven't heard of it yes that's the thing right now and there are people who are building entire businesses just around flipping these cards and so there was a card show in town yesterday that I went to at the convention center down here and they do it like every month or two and they're always packed thousands and thousands and thousands of people going through in Cedar Rapids Iowa I can't even imagine how much money is going through that place.
00:33:13
Oh, yeah. And it's insane. And people are selling things for, you know, five to ten times, you know, MSRP. Yeah. And people are still going to it because they can't get them anywhere else. It's just crazy. It is a mess across the entire collectibles world. Yeah, because what you want to do is you want to rip a pack for MSRP, and then you want to pull out a banger. And then, like, you either hold on to it and it just gains value, or you flip it, whatever. but these guys are just you basically now you can buy a brick of if you can ever find one a brick of pokemon cards you could just sit on it for a few years and it's going to be like yep 10 times the cost or it's going to be worth nothing because it's going to drop off right i don't know eventually like they're all so like sports cards did it but now it's back so even if it drops off so i suppose if you held on to it then and you kept them good they'd still be my thing is what's stopping these companies that make these from not just this happened in baseball they did this with ken griffey jr's rookie card there's a big story about it they overproduced the shit out of it and just tanked the market on it they could do why i'm not saying they should do this but that's scary like at any point they could just start overproducing maybe because they saw what happened when they did it but yeah so i mean like really like if you want to keep your fucking stock high to sell you better i mean it's like why everybody makes a limited amount of whiskey don't dilute market yeah i'm gonna misquote this stat but it's really interesting so pokemon i think produced like 20 times the amount of cars it ever produced in the last five years and it's celebrating its
00:34:44
30th anniversary so like they have ramped up production like crazy and they still can't keep like crazy and they still not keeping up so they are flooding the market the market just demanding so much more so like it just it this exponential climb and now people are treating it like stocks right it is a it its own economy now yeah you know that rises and falls in its own currency form and yeah it's really crazy well you could there's multiple ways to make money off it because then i've seen a ton of people that stream and just open up packages it's massive dude i mean like you sit there online and so you're opening up you get those things i've been in the bathroom before for a little bit and i'm like all of a sudden i'm like why am i 15 minutes into watching people rip pokemon i don't know what any of this is right but it's just entertaining to watch the is a pikachu yeah squirrel and we're talking about pokemon because it's the biggest one but but it's happening to sports cards too like it's it's really massive right now especially apps like whatnot where people are are ripping and shipping and you know yeah that's that's all huge dude i have you guys seen whatnot so i i nathan's got me on it one day and then like for two weeks i'm just like buying random online i'm like i don't even need that what am i doing but though you're literally watching a stream and they just open up random pallets of shit. Now granted that's the one I watched. Some are just doing hats or cards or Funko Pops. But this one they just opened something like Super Sharp Knife like from Japan and like you see the bids and I'm like dude it's at a dollar like fucking and there's a it's a dollar shipping like fuck it click boom you won. I'm like oh shit I want a knife by the way it's my favorite fucking knife but fuck I don't need to
00:36:16
know the name of that one because that's the one I will see had a baby. Yes that's a good way to say it because it's it's you know vertical scrolling vertical quick bidding on whatever people are selling yeah and now they're doing it on tiktok that's the one i could totally get into yeah because i go to bed and i just fucking looking at facebook marketplace the only thing that stops me from doing it is the effort to go fucking pick it up you know i mean where i'm like i gotta meet up with somebody i gotta go get it like yeah but one dollar shipping you know how much fucking shit would be coming to my house yeah it's not good yeah it's like What if Facebook Marketplace was TikTok?
00:36:48
Yeah. I can stay away from that one. Yeah, I deleted that. I did too, actually. I don't need to do that. It's too addictive. I'm glad I didn't do any of that. Don't do it. I got a couple cool hats. I got some kind of cool shit, and I didn't spend a crazy amount of money, but you do see people find some steals on there. Sure. Well, yeah. I didn't spend a lot on one thing, but I bought 50 fucking things. That I don't really need. Yeah, exactly. so but yeah clearly in my opinion they're still cool because the fucking demand is through the goddamn room so i loved them when i was a kid like i used to collect them too you know i mean and just kind of naturally grew out of it but i i mean i would like look at them at night and shit like that like i had books and you know yeah of that stuff for it i had so much fun collecting it and i remember the thrill of opening a pack and fucking getting one and then with my buddies like trading them when you know there's 10 of us that would trade cards together you know like that was just a blast but so i mean clearly it's cool i mean and it's back at its peak yeah it's definitely cool i mean think about like i don't know if you guys have watched it but there's a netflix show um king of collectibles yeah yeah golden auctions yep yeah he just bought logan paul's illustrator like the 10 million it's the most valuable pokemon card in the world is it like one of one why is it so no there's like 39 of them ever made but this is the only one that's a psa 10 like yeah we haven't talk about grading at all grading yeah you send your cards off you pay to get them graded but if you send it in and it's a 10 it just fucking quadrupled in value what like but the centering
00:38:20
is perfect there's no scratches it's like they they look at it basically under like a super magnifying glass use laser like they psa is like the biggest one that does it but there are other grading shops that'll do it but essentially it's somebody you know judging it and saying this is a number on it well because of like the other job i do professionally i've been with somebody that prints cards and so i've seen that stuff and i've seen when um some of them get made it's they're under total security like get shipped with it like this card is being printed and you're gonna have security and you're in this building it's gonna be locked down for 24 hours interesting because it's that it's worth that much money that's shipping through that's going on right now that's being printed so that's the other thing though too is you i don't know i've heard horror stories of you know a woman takes her diamond ring and to get clean they swap with a shitty right you know a fake diamond or whatever same thing with the pse thing i'm starting to hear these stories of either a they'll send you your card back and you know they'll say it's a 10 but they really kept your 10 and gave you a 9 or whatever and the other thing was they'll get it and be like we'll give you this much money for right now like before we even grade it if you'd like that's happening a lot too yeah they know it's a 10. so it's like they've waited that and they're like well we'll give you 75 of the value of the 10. you don't even have to get it graded it's like yeah it's guaranteed cash why would i not and then they make a profit there's a lot of weird stuff going on in the grading world too because psa is such a monopoly yeah and uh psa was purchased by gamestop what and who also owns ebay so there's all of this like inter-trading
00:39:52
stuff that's happening and that owns ebay uh that same parent company does yeah what the fuck that's crazy ebay bought golden auctions too so they're yeah like they're killing it yeah well there's they're self-funding themselves oh absolutely like it's super super she's because grading is totally subjective they don't tell you no yeah what it is or how they got that number they just tell you the number yeah yeah weird this is trash yeah i'm gonna keep this one it sucks you can have this instead so but like if you can make it work for you really quickly this story A couple months ago, I ordered a box of cards from the Pokemon Center, directly from Pokemon.
00:40:29
I didn't even know you could do that. It's impossible to get. You have to wait in line virtually for hours, and they sell out. It's a mess. Anyway, I got one. Open it up, and I get the best card in the set. Holy shit. Ungraded, it's worth $500. Damn. Roughly. All right. And I paid $100 for this box of 36 packs. Okay. If I send it in to get graded and it gets a 10, it's worth $4,000. Okay. So if it works for you, like the system, you're up big. Are you doing it? Well, I have to. I feel obligated to. Right. Well, I mean, you got to ride this pony. How long we could go? Otherwise, it's still just 500 bucks.
00:41:02
Yeah. Even if it comes back at nine, like it's going to... It's still up. I'm still up. Yeah. You know? Yeah. So you have to try and make that system work for you if you're going to play the game. You know? But that's... Did you scream yourself ripping the pack? I should. I should get into it. God, right? I'm like, missed opportunity. I have like 10 grand worth of cameras and microphones in here. I should be doing something. No, I'm sure. You just sit over here with your feet, dangin' off the table like doo doo doo.
00:41:25
That feels like a step too far. Like if it becomes real, then it's an addiction. Okay, you have a bottle of whiskey next to you. Now it's super manly and tough. There you go. Put the middle finger on the table. You can use it for that one. Oh yeah, absolutely. Put a little Pikachu hat on it, call good.
00:41:42
Pikachu! Alright, so we can agree. Still cool. Still cool. For sure. I will say real quick, I still have all my Andre Dawson cards that I collected as a kid. as a kid yep and i also my most proud thing i still own cards of is i think it's like 1991 uh the whole x-men set and then there was nine holographs so in the page when they're all together it makes a giant scene sick i'll never i'll never get rid of it i've never even looked at what it's worth but do you still have all your cards like i mean not all of them no like i still have like two binders which is like i have a i have the full marvel set that i'm proud of i have a full power ranger set i never even really gave a shit about power rangers but my dad got the cards in the shop so i was like fuck it i'm gonna complete the set and i did might be worth money now i don't even know but i'm sure it is somewhere probably yeah i i'm so bummed that i got i used to collect magic cards dude those are so much money and my son plays now and loves it nathan does so it's like magic the gathering that thing but like i had some really the original edition dude the original cards are like even even just shitty plain like random cards are i think i just sold them at a yard sale when i was younger i remember giving all mine to a friend because i didn't play it like i barely played so i just gave them away so cooper had a full binder full of pokemon cards that he just gave away to someone because i was like dude you're telling me to go get those back right now well he's like i'm not really into it i'm like give it to you know blah blah he really likes that shit and he's like yeah i decided just give it to him now that kid just now i'm kind of like well that's what happened like covid hit yeah and people were like hanging out at home and they just went through their old stuff and found
00:43:14
hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of Pokemon cards and suddenly people were paying off their college debt and paying off their houses with things they collected 25 years ago. Come on, Beanie Babies. We still have a fucking... I don't think those are coming back.
00:43:30
That's why I actually like going to garage sales. I don't do it very much, but I enjoy it because I always feel like I'm going to find that thing. Oh my god, this chick has no idea these are original Pokemon cards. I'd be like, five bucks for the box. she's like take it i'm like i'm rich it's never happened but i still hold the the feeling it's gonna happen one day yep all right eric what you got for us all right so mine is um kind of related to recent events in my life um so i've noticed this trend that kids like teenagers now really like to have parties whether it's like a birthday party or just a hangout party but like they like to have their parties at our house like they want to have 15 to 20 people over when you're home when we're home and i just remember like for us when we did that stuff and you know back in our day parents it was like yeah you waited till parents were out of town or you went down a gravel road to a cornfield or you know something along those lines like you yeah because i mean if you're going to do this stupid shit you don't really want to get busted right here's the thing though before you even finish you your kid your kids can't do that you have cameras and shit like so that we got to do that now they're like fuck it why even try and we're never going to pull it off so but he's saying when they're there so then yeah they're not even trying to yeah well that's what i'm saying i suppose to like you know like 360 all that stuff yeah we got we got their
00:45:00
locations so i'm sure that's maybe the difference but it like yeah is it is it still cool to like go to a cornfield and have a party i think so it's gotta be right still i can tell you that i still want to go to a fucking corner i want to do it right now so i don't know if it's cool for them but for me if you guys like we're doing a cornfield pull out a keg maybe you know maybe in a few months here like when it warms up i'm down yeah yeah let's go i think the weird thing is like so the kids not only are they asking to do that when you're home but they also like want you around it's not like hey guys can you can you and dad piss off so we can like do our thing in the kitchen or whatever they're like no like you guys can be sitting there do whatever and they're like making you a part of the party going on you're like uh-uh leave me alone go entertain your friends you guys just must be cool parents i told him before the pockets said this is what happens when you're too nice to your kids they actually want us around no it's not a bad no audrey basically just wanted me to light the fire for him right oh that's true too can you can you get the hot tub started yeah can you light the fire are we having some food what do we got yeah they do all these things and then go away and then go away yeah he orders pizza yeah did you grab the gatorade like i asked you to yeah dude logan had three friends over friday friday or saturday night and he goes i go do you guys want anything and he's like no and i was like no snacks and he goes well just grab some chips i'm like what chips he goes i don't care i'm like okay and he goes and some gatorades so i bought a like 16 pack of gatorades and then one of those boxes of like 20 bags of chips There's four kids.
00:46:28
The little random one. They ate all of them in one night. So what is that? More than four bags a kid? I was like, holy shit. And then there was two Gatorades left. I'm like, you guys must have been pissing like camels all night. You guys are super hydrated. The amount the kids can eat is fucking phenomenal. So I know Sophie and her friends, they're big. They love to fucking make food at one o'clock in the morning. That sounds awful. but they're not drinking or anything like that they're not doing it they're just they're just like come up and make fancy ass ramen you know i mean or whatever and i'm like okay um and cooper and his buddies come over and they will just you know we go get drinks or whatever from sam's like they they're all into the honor palmers right so yeah they'll fucking smoke a whole case of that one in one night like four of them yeah like five of them you know what i mean and like like all right you know i mean and same thing food like they just it's three feedings yeah garbage you know i mean but i mean like those boys are in eighth grade so they're just hit you know like they're all growing like weeds right now and so i get it but the other day he had people over i woke up or the next morning we're coming back in and i'm like why is there a big fucking bag from mcdonald's like we haven't eaten mcdonald's i'm like this is weird i'm like i know ashley doesn't you know at all she can't stand that shit and cooper's like yeah we made a door dash last night oh my god that's her new fucking favorite thing to do is door dash at
00:48:02
two o'clock in the morning and i go all right dude we're done with the door dash at 2 a.m right we don't well that's fine they're paying for that shit not me you know i mean and yeah but also like there's such strangers coming over at 2 a.m that's what i said that's what ashley said she's like i don't need strangers showing up here at fucking two o'clock thinking that it's just you guys home alone you know what i mean like and so we're like no more fucking food getting delivered when we're asleep you know like where's the closest mcdonald's to you guys that's not close i know there's nothing close i was like it couldn't have been good we were like i don't know it's pretty good and then it was a 30 delivery fee because you guys are in the middle of nowhere like jesus they came from like north liberty the airport yeah yeah it's dropped off by drone god so jesus anyways you know that's what they'll do but yeah um so i don't know i i love knowing my kids and their friends you know like just like having a relationship with all those guys like i just again i think they're good kids the boys because i've coached a bunch of them and even sophie's friends just because it's just awesome they're just good kids and so i like that part of it well and knowing they're there you know it's like you know they're safe and taken care of and so i don't know about the party thing because we're just not quite there you know like i mean so hopefully i have a birthday party you know 16 but it's like four people over whatever see that's where cooper hangs out with all his friends like all the boys which shout out to all you guys they all listen to this too but um they're just good kids like i just like them but
00:49:33
they just roll in packs because they get along so it's like i'm like cooper you can't just have 15 people over every friday like you know i mean like great not every day is your goddamn birthday right you know i mean like a break i i like all the boys but you got to cut it down you just can't they need to like i'm like the numbers too like right you get to go with that i'm like because otherwise no place for you to sleep or anything else and yeah i can only you know i don't mind them three hundred dollars worth of pizza later there's too much yeah it's like i just need some quiet i feel like there's a number when they get over a certain like it's like 12 it wouldn't take past 12 people yeah nothing fucking good happens there's shit going wrong because somebody's trying to impress somebody else yeah they're fucking they're gonna get into trouble and they don't end up having fun yeah no like because they have to police their own house you know anytime you've ran a party it's like dude you're the one having the least money it's like on your wedding day it's like it's not really that fun because you're entertaining everybody you're doing you're doing it for everybody else or yeah like your own party where you're trying to keep shit under control and there's always yeah you like you said there's always some kid trying to get attention trying to do whatever um leads you to life and yeah some girls crying over a boy and won't be the last time get over it so yeah as far as cool or not i don't know like i mean i'll tell you as a parent it's annoying so like because you're right over a certain amount it's too much man well and i think we should clarify party and it's more of a get together like party implies like alcohol and like whatever you know i mean like so no yeah it's a hangout that they're
00:51:03
It's not like you're supplying alcohol or anything like that. They call it a party. I don't know. Yeah. Well, they do. But I'm seeing anybody listening is like, Erik's not having real fucking parties for his kids. Yeah. So I think it's easier to clarify. My question is, is it still cool to have a party not at home with your parents? Like out in a field or a bar? Oh, yeah. God, I fucking hope so. That would make me sad if it wasn't. I thought you were supposed to go do that. Yeah. Go do that. Just have a driver to get you home. Yeah. Yeah. Be smart. Quit giving your parents anxiety by having 20 people in your basement.
00:51:40
Right. Even if you're out on a country road or a cornfield or something, we could see your location, so it's okay. You know what I mean? I say this jokingly because it was a scenario for me. It's a nostalgia thing for us. It ended up being, I'm happy that she had it. Everybody ended up behaving. But still, over 12 people, that's a lot. I was stressed the fuck out. We're going outside. are like thank god but it's like like it's like when they're little kids they stay out for like five minutes and then one's coming in one's going well and it's stupid cold right now so it's not like they want to be outside light as many fires as you want it sucks outside it's terrible today is bad today i told the kids sunday i was like good thing you don't have school monday because i like probably was gonna get canceled anyway like it was fucking wasn that cold it was negatives in the hot tub last night my hair froze as soon as i got above the water oh he didn take a picture you need a stocking cap yeah right that amazing actually i saw something i was gonna send to you it's like the lid that raises on the hot tub yeah so then it's got a you got like a roof over you and then people put lights and shit like that but then instead of shut the top it literally just shuts down and then closes the top i want to see to get all sanity and i'm like cool man because then if it's raining or whatever like you're protected yeah i actually prefer to have it open i like snow coming in and it's kind of a weird snow is kind of cool though yeah yeah yeah well it's very sexy time when it's snowing and you're in the hot tub even if you're alone yep oh woe is me oh god all right so um
00:53:17
my still cool yeah you're still uh harley davidson is harley davidson so cool so think about i mean like harley davidson has its own color orange you know i mean like you have like sturges you have bike and that's more bike fest or whatever but harley davidson like i mean originally it was like the outlaws you know like that sort of thing but then it kind of got to like the every like everybody was in the harleys you know i mean whether it was like wealthy successful people to the outlaws you know i mean whatever there's all these people do it there was bars that would pop up that i mean um what was the bar chrome horse was fucking awesome yeah it was one of the coolest bars with that orange and everything like it was so much fun is it still cool like it used to be i mean you mentioned their color orange it's like when we talked about playboy how iconic the logo is that's how harley davidson is like it'll never go away you know granted it's changed in popularity and stuff and i think that just comes and goes with are you into motorcycles or not like like like again this kids these day and age i they don't grow beards they don't seem to be into like crotch rockets and stuff as much as like when we were young sure so i don't know i've never been a biker and i never want to be it's just not for me um the fucking assless chaps hurt my butt cheeks so you're like digging the meat so but no i just I've just never been into it but I don't think it's ever going to go out of style
00:54:48
it is so iconic for what it is yeah if you are asked to name a few other motorcycle companies some people can't even do it I know Indian is a big one next to Harley or like Kawasaki but again that's getting into well then that's the thing now it seems to be more like side by sides that is more popular because a lot of the bike places will sell that too but I'm just saying it's just the Harley you know like the wait a minute can one of you guys get a harley and then get the little sidecar and i can ride in that that'd be sick you'd fucking look great dude i would love it you'd be the best hype man on the side of there too just totally like pull up next to the car back what's up ladies get you a helmet with a little mohawk on it yeah i was just thinking that we're going to get one of those predator helmets where i look like the predator yeah be sick talking rasta accent right what about you what if we got mopeds and but decorated them like especially painted them to look like harleys yeah be like then you're just begging to get your ass no you want to ride on this hog 40 miles to the 40 miles to the gallon on this song so i think they are still cool um i think um you just got to decide if you want to do that or not like part of my trouble is so i had a motorcycle i had a like crotch rocket type motorcycle okay when i was younger and then i had kids and i was like well i'm sitting here making payments on this thing and i can't put a car seat on it so time time to get rid of it right so um but like to this day
00:56:26
i still kind of miss it like kind of wish i had it sure so um i've thought a couple of times about getting kind of more of a cruiser bike like a harley yeah um i think the problem is i don't know if i want to do that because like you go like the fun thing is to go take a road trip and stop at bars and different things along the way and you're on two wheels instead of four and sure you know like and also i see people out doing that they're doing road trips on a motorcycle and then it's fucking pouring right and you're just screwed like i'm like how are you even riding in this no yeah and again we're in iowa like winter comes every year and it's like that's basically that's other thing it's kind of like five months kind of put it away for a while yeah yeah you're making payments on something just sits there it's like i don't know kind of like a boat you're only you're only able to use it so much of the years don't worry don't get that shot you don't get that shot was like oh you didn't need to hear that oh yeah but i will say i think they're still cool i think um you just gotta it's you gotta make that choice to me at this point in my life if i was to do something i'd rather have a side-by-side or a four-wheel four-wheeler but me too we know side by side so we know that's your goal logan what do you think about the harley curious to get your sorry cut you off guard a little bit it's okay no uh would you say that you were ever a harley like it's not for me yeah my thing um because i value my life and i would i would kill myself sure yeah i know that about myself right right um here's what
00:58:00
i will say there are people who do it well yeah do it correctly do it the right way sure and like it elevates their their enjoyment of life sure right um when we did the iowa podcast awards i met some people who produce like a motorcycle podcast and they are people who like will go out and drive and they're like those are like they fucking love it like yeah but they like they have the right accessories they're like legit they do they do in groups they're safe they like they do it the right way and it elevates their life and their enjoyment there are people who like are like abuse riding their motorcycle who are unsafe ruining for everybody and no helmets driving between cars like yeah yeah and that that affects the brand too yeah i think you know like i have a negative connotation with harley's because of that right well and part of me like that's kind of what made it cool though in the beginning was it the fucking your outlaw right you know and like the biggest thing like i mean my father-in-law is a big writer and has been for years and part of like he said he's like it was cheap it was it was not expensive but i got to fix it myself and that's why i had a bike because i didn't have any money you know what i mean like interesting it was something new but it's like it started as more of like a is being poor cool though well no it wasn't for me it wasn't necessarily about yeah it's not being poor but it was well i'll tell you If you're poor and you ride a bike, you're fucking cooler than if you're poor and you don't ride a bike.
00:59:32
I can't, Shaun. Mine got stolen. I hear you on that, too. I sound like a square. I'm the not cool guy for being like, they're so safe. They're so cool because they're safe and they're nice. When you said that, though, it made me think of this. Aaron and I were watching this. If you guys haven't watched it, The Pit. i haven't watched that i want to watch first season it's so fucking good but it's in the second season and in the very beginning of the first episode he uh i fucking can't remember the the guy's name he's a famous actor yeah he's the lead but he's a doctor he's our doctor yeah and he rides a motorcycle with no helmet to work in the first episode of season two and i'm like there in no fucking way that somebody works in an er and they're not wearing a helmet you're 100 right like that guy of all people yeah there's no way you've seen the fucking worst of a car and of a bike going down is that like in a way like don't trust a skinny chef type thing like um but i will say so quick segue on the show um i have some friends that work in uh the medical field and in the er and they they're like there's some crazy outlandish shit on that show but it's almost all accurate and they're very like really really precise i've heard that it's a really good well done representation of an er like real or yeah a dramatized representation but still it's not like Grey's Anatomy where like every episode's like oh no there's a cadaver with a bomb in it you're like oh and they're more worried about who's
01:01:05
fucking in the closet than about like saving people's lives so that poor closet do not go in there with a black light that's what I'm saying yeah so this is where we keep medical supplies supposed to be sterile oh my bad no every doctor's fucking gorgeous right like come on they're all like yeah anyways so all right i think if you're not an asshole i think i think harley's i still think that well so it had its rise i feel like it had its peak in i don't know 2000 early 2000s like i feel like it was huge then it does feel like it was all in that yeah then i feel like dropped off so i was looking at earlier so sales dropped significantly like during covid which is kind of weird i was gonna say i actually thought you would think like that campers and everything else did but i think it was like that's campers did because you could go somewhere like you're not just gonna ride yeah you'd ride your bike but like you still couldn't go you didn't stay anywhere you know i mean so i don't know it's so they've been on a decline since then yeah um i do think of motorcycles as a luxury purchase too to your point sure it used to be affordable but it used to not be like it used to be just a means of you know like great gas mileage yeah it really was so then it became no we want the we want the ceo driving one too you know i mean and you get really you know but like in 2020 when people are struggling financially they're staying home i can totally see that trying off if it's a luxury purchase right yeah i'm gonna be honest my uh sean joked about this yesterday you were like you want
01:02:35
to buy a truck and i was like well how many miles the gallon is getting you it's like 13 i'm like well mine gets 12.9 that'd be kind of stupid does it get better than 12 i don't know 13 i'm out i was like man a fucking harley sounds real good right now i'm gonna be honest with you i don't know that gauge stopped a while ago jesus i have no idea if that's even accurate but i just was gonna you know one up the one you are right i said this i got so pissed because i'll put like 60 bucks in my suv and then it's like 210 miles till empty and i'm like fuck and i got in my son's car and it's like three quarters of a tank and it's like 490 miles tomty i'm like i swear i gotta get rid of this fucking thing it's too expensive yes yeah so i it's i to me it's like this total harley's just got this whole range of the best and the worst the richest the poorest the hottest chicks and the fucking nastiest ones you know what i mean like bikers in general but but it's just like it's just all of it it's like gobbled up in one like you can see you know this fucking crazy hot chick wearing the orange harley and someone where you're like god damn you know i mean or it's kind of like some guy that's nasty as fuck that like whatever and two all of a sudden yeah the rich guy doing it so i think it's cool i still think it's cool clarifying question are saying are motorcycles cool or is harley davidson the i'm saying harley davidson because motorcycles in general but like yeah but to me brand at all at a certain point they were synonymous yeah
01:04:08
absolutely and i don't think that's true anymore yeah see but i still think they're the crap they're like if you come down to bike people i i could be wrong on that i still think harley's still the one i think if you're not if you're not like in that industry like if you're a peon like me who doesn't know like yeah that's the first brand i think of for sure yeah they did a good job of with that brand making it like if it's a cruiser it's a harley like if it's that style of bike it's a harley yeah and everybody else is more street bikes and other things sure there i mean you can get the same looking bike as a yamaha a kawasaki like they have the same style of bikes but everybody would say looking at it at the profile that's a harley yeah it's like yeah you'd walk up that's a band-aid it's not a bandage it's a band-aid right like that was kind of what they had that's changed a little bit now i think because like indian is just as cool sure like they've kind of built their brand in the same way and they built theirs on the whole outlaw thing hard yeah they wrote it you know like so the original bike and blah blah blah blah i think it's still cool i think there's more options out there than just them sure i don't think it'll ever not be cool it's just like it's like we like the playboy always gonna have its own little thing yeah like you know you can maybe not like it or whatever but it's like it's not going anywhere right you know i do think it would be they they would be better off if they'd kind of reduce their price to entry like well maybe that's expensive maybe that's the reset it needs or whatever i don't know you know but yeah so kind of reminds me of the playboy conversation in that like the brand and the iconography is still really cool yeah like even people who aren't riding harleys
01:05:42
or like you'll see them still the the harley shirt right right like that's still a thing that's what saying like people still pick i'll take harley orange like you know you know like you know and it still has its own yeah oh yeah so i mean that could be my midlife crisis maybe i've got a motorcycle god you look good on a fucking hog with your bald head i mean my feet won't touch the ground but we'll get you we'll get you figured out gotta get me that sweatshirt get you a sportster wait for me i got little legs no that's why i want to be in the sidecar man come on don't take this dream away from me no i've already said my my midlife crisis is gonna be one of those like $4,000 dartboards.
01:06:19
I'm going to do that probably this summer. You got a lot of midlife crisis things on your list. Yeah, I do. It's been a rough year. You should let me introduce you to Pokemon cards. Oh, fuck's sake. Guys, I'm going to be ripping packs at 11 p.m. Central time. Look me up on Facebook.
01:06:37
On Facebook. Facebook. On the Facebook. Go to the Google search. With that being said, I think we're kind of at our mark here. What do we got? Do we got a Pokemon joke or I'm flipping this table. No, no Pokemon joke. I found a good one before we even started talking about Pokemon. I can't waste this one. What do you call a factory that makes okay products?
01:07:07
A factory that makes okay products? Fuck. I don't know. I don't know. A satisfactory. it's so fucking tough dude i was overthinking the shit out of that i was like a fine to read like like it's it's fine it's man like you're an idiot i would have never got that that's actually a really good one though i guarantee you my wife's gonna laugh at that one yeah that's a solid fucking dad joke like all through and through dude i make the worst jokes my wife laughs at them that's what wives are for yeah oh yeah yeah it's so funny build you up when you're oh yeah that's what i just what you told aaron loves like good dad jokes like things that like catch yeah catch her off like that it was so funny when the kids were little they always wanted to play this game where you know you would take turns sitting in a chair and trying to make them laugh and for like the kids all you had to do is like spit water out of your mouth oh yeah something stupid yeah but they could never get her to laugh and i would just walk in and say a dad joke and she would just start dying and they're like you cheat you use the google they're just trying to be silly and she's like that's not funny i do love watching tic tacs of like you know kids and their parents are like putting water in their mouth and like just trying to get them to laugh yes like it's hilarious to me oh they're pretty good yeah or the tortilla slap challenge is but then you see someone like take out some unneeded aggression out with the tortilla you're like god Damn, you were waiting to hear.
01:08:36
By fear was when they hit the person not expecting it, though. Yeah. Three of you in a group going against each other, and you hit the other person. Yeah. We did so many of those type of things during COVID. Dude, COVID was. It was silly challenges and whatever. Yeah. Maybe that'll be a topic. What do we do during COVID sometime? Yeah. Still to come. All right. Yeah, it's a good one. It's been a good show. Yeah. So, yeah. Again, thank you to Benz for sponsoring our drink. It was delicious. Please try one if you have the stuff on board. If not, go to Benz and get some. Again, for the Patreon, there's going to be an outtake uploaded on there if you would like to check that out of me being a fucking moron. Probably more of that to come too. But anyone who's already signed up, we appreciate you.
01:09:19
We'll see you next week. I'm going to slide this in. Go Rams. Fuck the 12th man. Next week's episode, we're going to have the 12th man on. I won't be here.
01:09:33
Next week, I mean, you'll be really happy. Or really not. We're going to see. You're riding on edge. Yeah. I'm happy for you. I appreciate it for now. It is the best part to be when there's only four games left. Three games left. Have a horse in the race. Have a horse in the race. All right. With that being said, we'll see you guys later. Bye. Cheers.
